It's unlikely the Canucks will be serious contenders and if he wants to play in the tournament then why not? On the other hand, maybe it's better to keep him off the USA roster because we don't want to have a reason to be cheering for team USA.

I'm fine if he's even the 2nd best player in the draft. Dahlin is amazing.

I feel it's just one of those sayings that the worst case scenario isn't even a bad one. I think they would like him to turn pro right away because that is the dream. They know his career is in hockey so would probably like to get it started as soon as possible. His dad is pumping his sons tires as any parent would. If Quinn is willing to play a bit in the AHL for his development, then why not if the expectation is to sign him at the end of the college season and burn the year anyway. The only benefit of staying in college is more time to work out and train with fewer games.

Canucks Top Ten prospects (Updated for 2018-2019)
theo5789 replied to 48MPHSlapShot's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
This is why I said if you include this pass year, Lind probably surpasses Jensen. As for Shinkaruk, as a 17 year old he put up 86 points in 64 games while Lind put up 87 in 70 games. As 16 year olds, Shinkaruk had a 91 point season and Lind had a 40 point year. As 18 year olds, Lind had a great season, but Shinkaruk's year was cut short due to injury, so who knows what kind of year he would have had, but this also probably stunted his development. It's arguable how strong his two way game is and he would need to improve it and that's an aspect of where he could become stronger to become a regular NHLer like Higgins. Shinkaruk was top 6 or bust, whereas I think Lind can manage a 3rd line career, so it's arguable once again who would have been the better prospect at around the same time. The point though to all of this is that it's hard to compare prospects now to previous ones because the perception of the future always looks brighter than hindsight. The players we had drafted before would have plenty of attributes that we would also be excited about in today's game. -
Canucks Top Ten prospects (Updated for 2018-2019)

If you put into perspective without hindsight and simply after the draft, Lind might actually be 4th or 5th in that list and crept up to maybe 3rd after this past year. I like Lind, but depending on his development, he could end up no better than a Jensen or Shinkaruk. There's just a perception that Lind would be higher on that list simply because of the unknown. Shinkaruk was an electric prospect that looked like he had some real offensive potential when he was drafted. Jensen was a 6'3 PPG winger where if he was drafted in this most recent draft, people would be drooling over that. Gaunce was a 6'2 heavy center that was also a PPG guy and again someone that would've oozed potential to be a 2C. This is why development is just as important as the draft itself and it makes sense why Benning and his team are looking for character, character, character because those are the guys that are willing to put in the work to better themselves to try and reach their potential. At the end of the day, newer prospects will always seem like they are better than their predecessors because of the perception of what they could become versus what you know of past prospects as they become more known. With all this said, our prospect pool does indeed look much deeper than ever before, but to be realistic, there's a probability that some just won't pan out. I personally think for Kole Lind (unless he takes his game to another level - development) if he wants to crack the NHL long term, he will need to do what it takes to be a strong 3rd line player and take his opportunities on 2nd line duties when they arise. I think he could carve out a Chris Higgins type of career if he does so. -

Madden is 5'11. He's light at 150-160 lbs but I wouldn't call him a smurf. Palmu on the other hand...he's about as wide as he is tall. -
2018-19 Utica Comets Thread

Another interesting option for C at the AHL level that could be good enough for call ups is Brandon Pirri. We have been interested in him before, so maybe he might get a look. -
If Hughes could carve out a Leetch type of career, that would be amazing. Except change the part where he wins us a cup rather than beating us for one.

Czarnik, Petan or Peca. I'm sure we will be able to sign one of those guys. -
It would be impressive if he can play the way he does and be solid defensively as well. No one is doubting his skating and ability to generate offense, but as a dman, he has to be able to defend amongst all opposition if he is expected to be that #1 guy that logs a ton on minutes. His style of play could put himself out of position, so I'd like to see where his game is at in that aspect. The World Championships is a good start, but is only a small sample size.

Just remember, it's not a race to see who makes the NHL first that determines which player is best. It is important to properly develop a player, so they are their best when they play. The only reason Hughes should turn pro this season if he is lights out incredible and there is just no reason to not bring him in. It won't hurt him to play another year of college and sign when his season is done to play out the year for us or even pull a Werenski and finish out the year in Utica before joining the Canucks the following season. I just hope people won't get all whiny if say Hughes goes back to college (and the ensuing "he will sign elsewhere after playing out his 4 years in college" BS) and Bouchard cracks the opening roster for Edmonton.

Plus we are a team that isn't afraid to draft an overager with Abols who we had in camp prior to drafting him and others (seems like one a year). -

Very exciting to have Eggenberger invited. Was hoping he and Topping would get invites. -
Looking forward to seeing more of that in the Canuck-Blackhawk battles.

I'm curious to how team tank feels about how this played out. The Canucks still got their choice of the 2nd best dman according to their BPA list. They wanted to trade up to get him but didn't need to. Sure there may have been some good forwards that we could have taken had we fallen, but the defense cupboard was bare and we needed this. Next year is deep for centermen. The Sedins got their send off that they deserved and we got our guy, not sure how much better this could have played out given the circumstances.

Maybe Weisbrod is Quinn's real father

If I were to break it down, Calgary got Lindholm who is a 23 year old (5th overall pick) center/winger (strong on draws, so not a Gagner type center) who plays in all situations. He's still young and putting up 2nd line center numbers and could develop to be a 1st line center. Ferland is a physical force and put up a good year offensively is a winger and centers are generally more valued. We will see if his offense drops off not playing on a line with Gaudreau (who had a lights out year) and Monahan. Carolina could use a physical presence in their top 6 and this certainly addresses that issue and they have decent centermen on their team to take the loss. Hanifin is a 21 year old (7th overall pick) who hasn't lived up to the hype offensively, but he had just put up his best season of 32 points. Being so young and still developing, he could reach close to Hamilton production, but be a better rounded player. Hamilton is better offensively now, but Calgary has Giordano and Brodie for the offense and Hanifin is no slouch to make up for the loss in offense. Hanifin was Carolina's best offensive dman points-wise, so adding Hamilton ups that portion of their roster. Calgary gets younger and gets players that IMO have more potential for players that are more proven. There have been questions about whether Fox wanted to sign with Calgary and now that doubt is put on Carolina because he could simply walk from them as well. Fox is added youth in return for the youth loss given up by Carolina. Once Calgary signs Lindholm and Hanifin, it might not be much more than what Hamilton and Ferland (who is one year from UFA) will make next season and maybe a couple more after that. I would much rather take back the return that Calgary got which is why I think Calgary comes out on top in this deal, but it looks like a decent deal for both sides. If Fox is an excellent NHL player, then it balances the deal out more and maybe puts Carolina ahead.

John Madden put up a 98 point season in 75 games in the AHL before turning into a defensive stud at the NHL level. Tyler thinks he has more offense to his game than his dad. This will be interesting. Another interesting note, John Madden's college career included playing with former Canucks Bill Muckalt and Brendan Morrison.

Hoping he's more like a Jacob Trouba without the injuries.

Interesting pairings, but MDZ will take up a spot until he is dealt at the trade deadline. I say he takes up Juolevi's spot until he is moved, so Juolevi starts in the AHL with some call ups and hopefully he has a good year and finishes the season off after the deadline or if he's better off staying the year, then give Sautner/Brisebois/Chatfield that opportunity (also could get more opportunity if Tanev is dealt). Hughes will be in college, so Pouliot/Hutton takes his spot next season. Will be interesting to see if he decides to turn pro once his season is done though. The defense might just be poor enough to keep us out of the playoffs for a lottery chance at Jack Hughes. But the year after, look out. Juolevi and Hughes become regulars hopefully along with Brisebois/Chatfield to revamp the defense. Demko should be taking on a bigger role if not taking over altogether. If we get a legit 2019 draft forward that could step in right away, then he along with Pettersson, Dahlen and the other potential young guns could make the 2019-2020 season look incredible.

I wouldn't say steal for the Flames, but I would say the Flames will probably come out on top in this one. They will survive on defense without Hamilton since they have a good group on paper there. Ferland is a loss on physicality but Lindholm will surpass his offense quite fast. Flames get younger in this deal. Unless Fox is an incredible NHL player, the Flames are ahead right now IMO.

Not as impressive as he has made it seem when filtered out that much.

Am I missing something? Can anyone explain how Rand got the U18 numbers for Finland? When I search it, this is what I'm getting: https://www.eliteprospects.com/team/5304/finland-u18-(all)/stats/all-time Doesn't appear to be the same. I questioned it because I was wondering where Juolevi or Heiskanen were on that list.

I can see the similarities between Madden and Cassels, both having dads in the NHL and both are considered to be defensive centers, but Madden believes he has more offense to his game. The other two, I don't see the similarities. Utunen is an all around guy, maybe a Juolevi lite. While Forsling was more noted for his offense. Manukyan is a pure speed and skill winger while Zhukenov is a two way center.
