One more reason to let Pettersson cook for another season in the SHL and also to bulk up a bit more and maybe given more opportunities to play center. If we don't get Hughes, I'll be happy with Kaako as well.

Have a good feeling about this guy. Looking forward to seeing his development progression.

I feel like I've heard his name a lot in the super series. I didn't realize he's 20 already though. Edit: Just checked, 4 points in 6 games including one player of the game honours for Russia.

It's funny reading the comments on the first few pages making fun of this guy's size, then we draft Artyom Manukyan.

I believe I heard that the Hughes' are billeting with the Tkachuk family.

I don't remember the time when the Canucks drafted Bure and how much anticipation there was, but would the fans then be all pissy and whiny if Bure hadn't joined the team and waited another year? For some reason, I feel like the times have changed.

To go back to this thread, I think Rathbone would pair nicely with a guy like Brisebois (or Chatfield if Brisebois and Rathbone play on the same side, but that doesn't fit this thread).

Guilllaume Brisebois is coming.

This is why it's nice to have a guy like Hedman to eat up a lot of minutes to allow for the NHL type development. The Canucks have no one of that calibre and that's why if you're a defender here, you get thrown into the fire as everyone is needed. This is why the way the Canucks are developing Juolevi is the right way of doing it even if it takes a bit longer to get into the NHL. Here's what I find amusing. A guy like Sergachev is viewed so highly (best dman in the draft, should've drafted him at 5, etc), yet a guy like Hamilton is viewed so lowly (poor defense, soft, worth at best a low 1st, needs to be packaged with Bennett to be worth it, etc). Aside from a 4 year difference (both drafted 9th overall), they seem to be very similar in style of play, yet the difference in opinion on these guys are vastly different. I don't know if it's the same people that have the differing opinions, but it certainly stands out to me how people react to these things. This is also why I think Juolevi will be a better dman who logs a lot of minutes in all situations and maybe doesn't put up Sergachev numbers, but will be a decent 30-40 guy on top of everything else he does. While Sergachev will be a top 4 guy getting most of his minutes on the PP, but doesn't provide much else. Not to say Sergachev is a poor player as some teams could use what he provides, but Juolevi will be the more useful player in the long run.

I think any goalie in this position will come cheap and we won't be giving anything up for them. This is really just help for Utica because Demko is the likely guy to get Canuck games if needed anyway assuming Nilsson hasn't been moved yet. Might as well go with the best option available for Utica.
-
Loved Eddie Lack's time here, but I don't think he's the best option moving forward. If we want a guy that can play in the NHL, there's Michael Hutchinson. There are younger options like Christopher Gibson or Brossoit (who is from Port Alberni). There's Dustin Tokarski, Harri Sateri and Reto Berra that put up good numbers last season. Someone like Tom McCollum is from NY and might be interested in playing a few years in Utica. I think my top option would be Edward Pasquale though. All of these guys are potential UFAs so wouldn't cost us anything and could do a decent job in the AHL.
-
I see your point, but other than benefiting Utica, I think we could either look at a college FA (for more potential) or even AHL quality goaltending to hold the fort until DiPietro to come in. This was the role of Bachman, so we need to find another Bachman. Demko looks to be ready to succeed in his progression, but DiPietro is more of a question mark, but he's doing the right things so far. I wouldn't be against drafting another goalie this year (Skarek or Dostal) if they are available in the later rounds as insurance to DiPietro.
-
Why is it that we need a goalie in between Demko and DiPietro? If Demko progression goes according to plan, we should get hopefully at least 6 great years with him. DiPietro will be 24-25 by then and hopefully looking to challenge the starting spot by then much like Demko's progression. Unless we are looking at having 2-3 years per goalie and offloading one after the next steps up, is that what you're saying? I have no problem drafting more goalies if one doesn't pan out, but I'm not sure why one needs to be in between Demko and DiPietro.
-
Easy for him to go full out in practice when he likely won't factor into many games. With that said, good thing he's taking it all in stride and gaining as much wisdom with NHL players as he can. Seems like a hard worker that will do whatever it takes to make it.
-
Pettersson might actually get to shoot on the 2nd unit.
-
I'm going to say Juolevi is just worn out. He was scratched after the WJC to get some rest and he just finished up a playoffs where he was logging a ton of minutes. If he made the team, he wouldn't be at 100% so maybe they just wanted to give him a break. He will get his chance to represent Finland eventually.

Would be funny when the Canucks card is revealed for 1st overall and Benning whips out the Petterson card from his pocket to show the camera.

Rioting and looting doesn't only happen here and sometimes happens when the home team wins anyway. There are idiots everywhere. Not justifying the rioting and looting, but just saying.

I was wondering how many short jokes you were going to make. Surprised you didn't end that he sees the openings for teammates between opponents legs

It's the same D as last year, but with a rookie OJ and Hutton out. Not sure how that can be viewed as better unless OJ plays lights out. The D needs real top 2 players. Edler and Gudbranson/Tanev should be on the second pair. Stecher and Biega are the only ones in their proper roles IMO. We need a Dahlin badly and ideally OJ to pair with him in the future.

I remember him telling Malhotra that he didn't even do his sick move too.

As a GM, Benning has more power in letting the scouting team what direction he would like for them to go in. Also allows him to have the final say on who to pick. As the head scout/director of the scouting department, the next GM could tell JB to focus only on the top Canadian kids for example limiting his options or maybe JB has a top choice, but the GM can decide to go in a different direction. JB has shown that he can make some decent trades and until he has more assets to work with, he won't be able to make many bigger deals. He is able to attract free agents to sign on a bottom feeding team and even though those players may not have worked out as hoped, it shows future UFAs that this team isn't afraid to spend when they are ready to compete again and is at least providing veterans to create competition for the young players' development. JB is doing just fine as a GM and there is no need for a demotion.

I think Horvat has been doing a pretty good job so far on that. However, I agree that it's exciting to see if Gadjovich can take it to the next level.

Chara has had more All Star appearances but has one Cup while Rafalski has had 3 and has made the playoffs in every year of his 11 year NHL career. Rafalski also played overseas a few years before finding his game in the NHL, perhaps the same can happen with Tryamkin.
