  1. They signed together, so maybe there was some stipulation that they would go together for whatever reason. It was odd indeed that Suter would be moved out considering he was still playing solid hockey.
  2. It felt like Minny was headed in the right direction. The buyouts were ridiculous. I agree that if Kaprizov walks, they are in serious trouble. They are basically praying Rossi can step in and become a 1st line center immediately. I think they still have the bones to be solid, but they are treading a very fine line between having a respectable team to an utter disaster and will be this way for the next few years.
  3. Listening to offers for Dominik Bokk (or other prospects/picks) for a top 6 forward. Let me know if you are interested and have one to move.
  4. I have some cap space to work with. Not going to demand an arm and a leg to take cap off your hands, but if a deal makes sense that to add a winger or defense, then I'll take the cap. Fired out some feelers, but if you need to shed some, let me know.
  5. These are the events in the past 72 hours. Based on a true story. Theo5789 @da.moose and several other GMs Theo5789 goes to solitude @canuck2xtreme Theo5789 Press release: First off, I would like to apologize to the city and fans of Philadelphia. Our commitment to bringing a championship to the city still remains. Our passion got us to this point, but this same passion is what will continue to drive us forward. We put in a lot of time here and tore this team down to the roots and rebuilt it. We were ecstatic to see the unbelievable results we had this past season. We hope to use this as a stepping stone lesson to make us stronger as a team to take us to the next level in having continued success long term. Secondly, thank you to all of the GMs who reached out. It reminded me of the great people this league has. Sometimes my competitive edge gets the best of me and I forget we are playing a game. And I thank all the GMs for allowing me to enjoy this game and the ones that puts countless hours and time in keeping this league going. Also, sorry for wasting everyone's data on this post. So now we are back in business and back to business. We still have some offers out there and we would like to re-open any trade talks that we had prior. Philadelphia is ready to go again.
  6. To be fair, Jeremy Swayman is 2017 is looking like he will be their starter in the near future. Has looked quite good in every level he's been in so far. Studnicka is establishing himself. Lauzon, taken in 2015, was just starting to get his game going for Boston and got the attention to be taken in the expansion. Vladar, also taken in 2015, had some decent numbers in the AHL and could make a serviceable reliable NHL back-up. Of course 2015 will always be viewed for those consecutive 1st round picks, but it wasn't all terrible.
  7. If Petey wants to be on a winning team, then he better sign a MacKinnon special and start eating chickpea pasta.
  8. Hockey world prediction "consensus" means nothing. We have real world evidence now of what he could've commanded had he hit the open market if Saad is deemed a comparable. We know what Saad got, who knows what Pearson would have on the market, but it was cheaper than Saad. Didn't say PK affected his +/-. I was pointing out that if Saad isn't even on the PK, it is unlikely he's trusted in the defensive responsibilities that Pearson had and thus Pearson faced tougher competition in his role. But I could see how it was written that it could've been misinterpreted. Colorado may have had a better team last season, sure, don't think anyone has suggested otherwise. But again, if Pearson and Saad are similar players, one got a higher amount and thus Pearson would technically be a "discount" relatively. That is kind of the whole point in this comparison. Not Pearson's fault. Never said no veterans would sign here. I was simply asking for examples that you had in mind that are equivalent that signed for a third less. Because I'm curious if those players would've signed those deals here or not. There are other factors than simply wanting to be here or not. There are players that don't want to be in a Canadian market due to the scrutiny or perhaps tax reasons. It doesn't necessarily have to do with how our team is run. Perhaps they're not elite, but also can't put the entire defensive system on them. Could be many factors. Pearson has been here for about 2.5 seasons. When he came here at first, he played really well and carried that into the following season. Last season wasn't great, but the entire team struggled for one reason or another. The main point is that Pearson (along with Horvat) are known for a two way game. Perhaps we would like to see more offense from Bo, but he will still certainly be utilized in a defensive role still. 3.25 million is certainly within 3rd line level of money as well. Saad is paid more which puts him in the "2nd line" category and if he doesn't put the offensive stats, what else does he provide? Pearson is a middle 6 winger who isn't only useful when producing offensive numbers. The empty net numbers are a padded stat for sure, but it's the reward he got for being entrusted in the defending the lead against the opposition onslaught role. They happened to be clinical that year. I've never used those empty net numbers to boast about his offensive abilities. Meanwhile you've ignored the context of the shooting% of each player where Saad has to sustain to barely be above Pearson's (given that most of Saad's points were goals) and Pearson had a off average shooting%, which could elevate his numbers. Plus the physical play of each isn't discussed. Pearson's contract isn't a bargain, but it's hardly anything worth complaining about.
  9. Catch 22 - if he wants to play for a winning team, he would need to sign for less to help build a competitive team. If he signs for more, it hurts the ability to have depth for a strong playoff run. So we will see which is more important to Petey (of course agents get in the way because they only care about the money).
  10. Caught a glimpse, will try to watch in full when I have the time. Takes me back over a decade ago when I was making fan tribute videos. Must be much easier nowadays to find footage to work with. I hope to one day find enough time again to work on these again. Keep up the good work!
  11. Speaking of context, let's break this down further. UFA status. If Saad got this deal on the market and they are comparables, don't you think Pearson probably could've gotten something similar if he hit the market and therefore the deal he signed with us is considered a "discount"? Or at the very least, if Saad is considered a UFA inflated signing, then once again Pearson is at fair market value. Offensive numbers. The key here is Pettersson was out. When a team is missing their best offensive forward, it creates a ripple effect. Those 3 extra minutes per ice time a game were slightly boosted by the PP time, but also the fact that he PKed and Saad didn't last season. It's nice to be on PP1, but without the biggest threat in Pettersson, it makes it less effective. No one expected Pearson to take over Pettersson's value on the PP. With that said, his minutes also increased a bit because Miller would then have to shift to center leaving more LW time to fill. As for point production, yes Saad has more point last year, but he also had an unusually high shot% compared to his career. Bring that back down to the norm and suddenly it's not as "significant" of a difference. We will see if Saad can keep it up, but it is unlikely IMO. On the other hand, Pearson had one of his worst shot%, so it'll remain to see if he returns back to norm with hopefully a healthy group above him. Defensive play. Pearson paired with Horvat was relied upon to play somewhat of a shutdown role. Saad, given that he had next to no PK time, likely wasn't trusted as much in a defensive role. So perhaps that plays a part into the differences in +/- when you aren't relied to face the tougher competition. This is something that would have to be looked at more with the fancy stats. You bring up the empty net stats and well that's another point towards his defensive game. Who's relied upon late in a game protecting a lead (and thus the empty net availability) having the top opposition bear down on you trying to tie up the game? Empty net points are simply a reward of getting the job done and burying the game. Physical play. I'll add this here since it's been overlooked. Pearson throws over a hit per game (or around 5 hits/60 minutes) and has been willing to get in fights if needed. Saad barely hits (about 2/60 mins) and I don't believe he's ever gotten into a fight. So while Pearson is no enforcer, he's willing to engage in the physical game. Pearson is effective with Bo in a more shutdown role with the ability to generate offense. Prior to Pearson, Bo hasn't had a regular winger to work with for a significant period of time. I'm sure Horvat has a say in who he works well with as his winger. No one is denying that Horvat is the driver of the line, but you still need a reliable support cast to make the line effective. Pearson is a middle 6 winger, he's right where he should be. Which vets are you thinking about? Would they have wanted to sign here? That's a big factor when hoping to land a UFA of equal quality and especially for cheap.
  12. A poolman with a long stick. No wonder some posters are feeling a bit insecure and trying to run him out of town already.
  13. 1C Miller meant Petey was out. Of course a team with both Petey and Miller will be better, regardless of who plays wing or center.
  14. Oddly enough, some members of CDC actually believe this is the true way to rebuild.
  15. This was fine when Hughes was just getting eased into the league and he had a simple job of just protecting the kid. Now that Hughes is a 20+ minute dman, I don't think Schenn will be able to keep up that regular shift. I think he can do well in a similar role next to Juolevi in the bottom pairing, for example, but it would most likely happen if we come across an injury to Myers, Hamonic or Poolman. Between injuries and possible covid risks, Schenn could still get a good share of games in, but I find it doubtful that he would be Hughes' regular partner this go around.
  16. Poolman, Hamonic and Schenn likely have very little bearing on what happens to Juolevi as they are RD and OJ is LD. The competition for Juolevi right now is Rathbone and Hunt. I remember last season there was talks that OJ couldn't get into some games due to cap reasons. His minimal contract here should allow him to maximize his playing time. It's Juolevi's spot to lose at this point. It is interesting that it seems like we have focused on puck moving dmen on LD and steady physical more defensive minded guys on the right almost deep into 6 pairings. Allows the team to interchange in game if needed and also keeps the balance in case of any injuries. It'll allow for the systems to remain steady regardless of who's on the ice. I think we will see OEL - Myers as the top even strength minute munching pair. Hughes - Hamonic 2nd pair with heavy special team usage. Which leaves Juolevi and Poolman to pick up the rest. I imagine we will have Hunt and Schenn as our extras on defense (with Hunt also being able to play a bit of forward if needed). Rathbone will get big minutes in Abbotsford with Keeper as an enforcing partner. Leaving Brisebois and Woo to hopefully get more solid development time.
  17. Only just a non-stop 44 hour drive away!
  18. I'm sure if Minny was interested in moving on from Kaprizov, they could work a sign and trade that would be worth more than two 1sts. I think Minny is hoping to keep their star player instead.
  19. Confused with what I'm saying? Or confused about how the KHL team can sign him for that contract? I thought the KHL has a salary cap. Don't know if they have exemption rules or not. Just didn't think it'd be possible for them to sign him to that much money. So it would appear to be a weak negotiating tactic, unless I'm missing something here (which I probably am).
  20. Doesn't the KHL have a salary cap of like 12 million? The current highest paid player makes like 1.7 million. I guess they will play with one line and a goalie every night.
  21. I think the bigger news here is one of the empty seats in Arizona knows how to type!
  22. Nah we want to run the Toronto model apparently. Front load the offense and penny pinch on the defense/depth.
