  1. Congrats @Azzy on a hard fought close Finals
  2. I believe Rathbone was drafted from a high school program. Joined NCAA after we drafted him.
  3. Seeing the reaction of some people here clearly shows how they don't read the full story and try to jump onto their own previous conclusions and looking for anything to confirm it. The original post/tweet clearly states that Bates takes care of NCAA free agents. Yet there is so much talk and concern about drafting from NCAA? We still have scouts for the NCAA, likely the same ones that have nabbed all of the gems. Also keep in mind, a lot of players are drafted even prior to joining the NCAA.
  4. Harvey, the new face of all the good picks. The bad ones still belong to Benning!

  6. Red Wings add former Avalanche winger Alex Tanguay as new assistant coach (nhl.com)
  7. Not sure if this has been mentioned in this thread already, but could potentially increase the likelihood of Wallstedt going to Detroit if available still.
  8. It appears that Nils finished 8th in Calder voting. https://thecanuckway.com/2021/06/30/canucks-nils-hoglander-finishes-8th-calder-trophy-voting/
  9. I feel if we made this deal, CDC would have another one of it's Benning hating meltdowns. The typical trending down near 30 years old small vet topic would come up surely, especially giving up what would be equivalent to a relatively high 2nd and a 3rd rounder. Now I do agree that Arvidsson wouldn't be such a bad pickup, but I also do think LA overpaid given that Arvidsson's numbers have been trending downwards plus in this flat cap market with expansion looming. But I respect LA seeing a target available and going after him and making a fair hockey trade for both sides. What confuses me is on LA's side in which they could've just kept Toffoli. Instead they traded him and basically spent the same value to bring in a player that likely fills the same void. It's like they wanted to rebuild, but then decided to 360, perhaps to appease Doughty after his comments.
  10. While I don't disagree and think the scouts deserve their fair share of credit, I find it funny that the scouts only come up when talking about our excellent picks. When it comes to the not so great ones, Benning gets all the wrath on those and the scouts just fade away into the distance. At the end of the day, drafting (development, trading, signings, etc) all come down to a team effort. So just as Benning gets lit up for making some moves because he's the guy to show for it, he also deserves the credit for making the excellent picks as he makes the ultimate decision (with the guidance of his scouting staff that he has hired/kept) in the end for those. It's simply great to see that scouting/drafting/development has all been areas of focus to improve on since Benning's arrival and we are really seeing the results of it.
  11. Interesting, wasn't aware of that. Offensively his production has actually dropped off compared to the last couple of seasons. Odd that he would turn it down as he doesn't seem anywhere near that kind of value especially in the flat cap world.
  12. Where is it rumoured that he would get 5-6 million? But obviously if he's overpriced, then we go for someone else (Eg Wennberg as I suggested). It would be nice to get a player like Danault though at the right cap hit.
  13. If we are bumping Pettersson to wing anyway, might as well just have Miller center the top unit to keep the chemistry? Unless there's a rift of some sort. Pettersson - Miller - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Hoglander Lind? - 3C - Podkolzin Gadjovich/MacEwen - Beagle (if healthy)/4C - Motte Would like to see someone like Philip Danault as the 3C or maybe Wennberg. If Beagle is out long term, sign someone like Martinook. If we are in a real pinch cap-wise, then Graovac is fine in a minimum wage 4th line role.
  14. Offensively ranking Makar Hughes Fox Heiskanen Defensively ranking Heiskanen Fox Makar Hughes While Heiskanen is the weakest offensively (based on their numbers), he also gets the least PP time amongst the 4, but he's still averaging about 40 points a season (and was nearly PPG in the playoffs last year). So solid offensively still while being a stud defensively. Fox is making a run for top defensively as he's NYR's top PK guy as well as being an offensive horse, hence the Norris nod. He's only behind the other 2 offensively due to the numbers. Quinn is by far the worst defensively and it's not even close. Hughes doesn't see a lick of PK time while Makar is relied on it a bit in a more secondary role. As of right now, if I were to look at the complete game, how they rank IMO in terms of how they should be paid is Fox (the Norris is going to be a big bump) Makar (simply because offense is over-valued IMO, but he's really good offensively) Heiskanen Hughes
  15. I thought for goalies the rule is just a signed or qualified RFA goalie. I don't think there's a criteria for games played and so on. So we could technically qualify Keilly and have him as our exposed goalie (unless I misinterpreted the rules). I don't think Boston wants to spend assets now to acquire him though as Seattle could take him in the end. So I suspect they rather go through this expansion route instead if this is indeed true.
  16. If Boston wants him, they can make it work. We shouldn't need to add. If Seattle ends up taking someone else, then we can make a trade with Boston after expansion.
  17. I imagine they will be serving vanilla and fruit flavoured soup today instead.
  18. This is why we shouldn't draft him. He never gets his ultimate prize!
  19. If Rosen is available with our 2nd round pick, that's a massive win (assuming we pick him)
  20. Some of your fondest memories in school was Harry Dick?
  21. I would do the following instead DeBrusk/Lind/Gadjovich/MacEwen - Petersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Hoglander DeBrusk/Lind/Gadjovich/MacEwen - Miller - Podkolzin The "2nd" line showed good chemistry last year. The "3rd" line is more to shelter the prospects and Miller would get heavy special teams minutes. There can be a battle for the spot beside Petey and Boes, but I'd like a little size for protection and have a bit of a crash and bang type on the line rather than going full skill. I think one of Lind/Gadjovich/MacEwen are likely taken in expansion. I think DeBrusk has the ability to keep up with the top line, but he would look solid on the "3rd" line with Miller in which then we could balance out the deployment of these lines as well. If MacEwen can click, he'd be the perfect enforcer on the line with enough skill to put up the numbers, but Gadjovich looks to have really upped his game last season. Lind seems like he can be an all round utility guy and plays a bit of a pest game. Late game situations where we need a goal, we can put Miller back with Petey and Boeser.
