  1. Your updated roster suggests that you do!
  2. Yes, there's always Canadian bias. Some hometown bias (although Virtanen has squashed a bit of that). But there's also Russian bias the other way. IMO, I'd put Svechkov over McTavish just in terms of upside, but both have solid attributes. Yet McTavish is loved by many for #9 and Svechkov is deemed to be a far reach. There's also some Swedish bias here, but it's fair based on our success with them.
  3. Philadelphia Flyers updated roster Travis Zajac Scott Mayfield - Jeff Petry Marc-Andre Fleury Let's play some 3 on 3 hockey @Master Mind
  4. Very underrated as I haven't seen his name mentioned yet is Jonas Brodin. Often partnered with Dumba and another offensive guy in Spurgeon, he's relied to be the steady defensive presence and the last couple of seasons, he's put up over 0.4 PPG. If he can push his offensive numbers a bit higher (although I think this is ridiculous for a defensemen category), he could be IMO a Norris candidate.
  5. @da.moose if the standings hold true, then thank you for an incredibly tight series! I have a lot of respect with how your club has been built. Looking forward to many more battles in the future!
  6. The good news is that it's looks like #9 or #12 are the best spots to pick as those seem to be the best of the bunch in either group.
  7. I'll trust Benning and his scout's list. If Svechkov is who they deem as BPA when our pick comes up, I wouldn't be upset or surprised.
  8. You go for BPA. Centers generally have more value than wingers. Svechkov would be in a similar position to Podkolzin where it'll take him a couple of years before he would possibly come to NA anyway, but in the meantime is likely to play against men in the KHL. He could start off as a 3rd line center when he arrives. Bo will be nearing 30 by then (doesn't mean he's done) and Petey has yet to prove he can handle the faceoff duties that a center should. Svechkov is one of the risers in the draft as he was rated as a low 1st/high 2nd early in the year. I think many are starting to be convinced. I wouldn't be upset with a winger either, but I do feel like those could be found in later rounds as well (eg Hoglander, Lind, Gadjovich, etc). Guenther, Lysell and Johnson may at a higher tier than those I just listed, but centers are also a premium position that we are lacking in as well.
  9. Again, it'll depend on who's available, but given the list I was responding to, I certainly wouldn't be upset "reaching" for Svechkov. Petey was picked at #5. This is the #9 pick. Svechkov has first line potential (in a defensively responsible center that has the offensive ability to mesh with good offensive players) and a 3rd line floor. So he may not be your prototypical high end flashy offensive first liner, but at #9, it's a perfectly reasonable option.
  10. Was just answering the question with the list of players provided. Certainly if a higher rated player falls, then I would consider that player instead. Svechkov isn't a huge reach either IMO. There's a reason why one of the top KHL teams (SKA, Podkolzin's previous team) paid big money to get him to play for their squad next season. Plus he's been playing in the "AHL" men's league for the majority of the year already and could be in the KHL by next season. We went "off the board" with Petey and it works out fine. However, I wouldn't be opposed to trading down and gaining an extra asset plus Svechkov if available.
  11. His floor is probably a 3rd liner. He could just as easily be a dynamic two way first line center. Could have chemistry with Podkolzin for the Russian connection, but also be skilled enough to play alongside the likes on Petey (if he can't get his faceoff game going and is bumped to wing). A lot of those skilled offensive guys could be top 6 players, but they also could be complete duds if not given the offensive opportunity (they would have to earn it). I would think McTavish is more likely to be a 3rd liner and yet many on here would welcome him. I just think Svechkov in comparison gives up some physicality, but has higher offensive upside than McTavish.
  12. For me, it's Svechkov from that list.
  13. Maybe have a rule if they haven't played a single game before the TDL, they're not eligible for the playoffs. Of course that means they could play 1 game and be done, but they have to make the cap work for that one day.
  14. Maybe more like Jared Staal or as referenced above Jordan Subban. Both these guys were hyped up to be the "best of the brothers" too I believe. Curious if there are any "3rd brother" that has actually done well in the league...
  15. Don't forget Cole Cassels, Jordan Subban, etc. Also, McTavish's dad is Dale McTavish in case you didn't know. Craig is a MacTavish assuming that's who you believe his bloodline to be.
  16. @da.moose looks like it's down to Fleury and Toews (and Kadri if it goes to 7 games) to seal our fate. Bring it on!
  17. Boy, Mayfield must be under their skin. DeBrusk crosschecked him in the head area, Hall got in a fight with him, and now this.
  18. The funny thing for me is that Benning acquired him in the first place and people crapped on Jim for trading for him (nevermind the fact we paid less than what others were for lesser players at the TDL). Then they proceed to complain about how Benning can't find pro talent. Then people proceed to forget that a pandemic happened causing the cap to stay flat. They also forget that they were complaining about the defense all year and Benning was trying to address that. On top of all of this, all this talk about Toffoli, they forget the fact that Montreal built a solid playoff roster that has allowed Toffoli to flourish. Toffoli just happens to be the right piece for them to get the job done at this moment in time, but he isn't the sole reason Montreal is where they're at (Price living up to his contract and a defense that is menacing and skilled are bigger factors IMO). But hey let's squabble over the lowest common denominator in Benning/Toffoli and ignore everything else (didn't they also whine about losing Markstrom and Tanev as well, yet look how they fared).
  19. Looks like I have indeed taken the lead in the series, but potentially at the cost of Jeff Petry. This is a much closer battle than I expected. Those suspensions have given me a chance. I hope my boys make the most of the opportunity. It's going to be a nail biter right to the end.
  20. “I’m just happy we didn’t lose any spots. There are nine guys we really like and I’m happy about that. And we’ll take the best player regardless of position.” Direct quote from Benning. If Wallstedt is available and is on our BPA list, he will take him.
  21. I guess the mindset for Johnson over McTavish would be the BPA talk. Johnson may take longer to arrive, but he could be a top 6 offensive player and thus have more value than a potential 3C. Yes our current need is for a 3C, but McTavish isn't expected to step in next season. Perhaps we fill that hole before McTavish even arrives. So the question is how much more potential is there to McTavish? Centers are a positional need in terms of depth, but Johnson is also considered a center and would fill that need as well. I wouldn't be concerned about the local boy aspect over Virtanen. That was a maturity issue. Players like Stecher thrived here as a local kid. Although I also wouldn't draft simply for the local boy factor either. The "safer" pick has netted us with Juolevi and Virtanen, who are fine picks, but the riskier options were Sergachev and Ehlers for example. We took a riskier option with Pettersson instead of the "safer" Glass. Not to say the risky option is always the best, but it's potential higher reward along with higher risk. In a draft, you're looking at who you think will be the best player with the longest career. Current positional needs aren't always important and you can trade from a position of strength if you have an abundance. I believe Benning very recently said that he will pick the BPA regardless of position.
  22. Guess that explains why Phil Kessel is damn good come playoff time!
  23. For me it's Svechkov, toss up between McTavish and Johnson and Guenther last. Guenther reminds me a bit of Virtanen. Good potential, but we have plenty of wingers and there will be many on the board still in later rounds. He's not "elite" enough for me as a winger to surpass any of the centers on the board. Johnson has top 6 potential, but is one of those guys that have to produce or may struggle finding a place in the lineup. So while he has the highest offensive potential, I think the floor is higher for McTavish and Svechkov which makes them safer bets. It's possible that we go this route because we were interested in Zegras before he was taken one pick before us and he has that sort of offensive potential. McTavish seems like he would be a very solid 3C with some potential to be a 2C. If he's strong on faceoffs, then he's pretty much another Bo Horvat. Nothing wrong with picking another Horvat. I'm just not so sure how his offense will translate to the NHL level. I have Svechkov first because I believe he's the most balanced. Can be trusted defensively and has solid offensive potential. I think he may not be as physical as McTavish, but has the higher offensive ceiling. Not as high as Johnson, but is huge difference on the defensive end of things. I would like to know his faceoff stats as if he's solid in that department, then that really puts him over the top for me.
