  1. Well the poster wanted a comparable to Tkachuk, so that seems to fit the bill!
  2. Well unless you're Jim himself on CDC. I'll take that with a grain of salt.
  3. Benning has always had the mantra of drafting BPA (according to their own list). Benning doesn't care if there is a wait and has demonstrated that by taking Podkolzin fully knowing it'll take him a couple of years before even getting a look here in NA (same can't be said necessarily by all of the GMs that had skipped over him). We are not picking 1st or even 2nd overall, so there is no expectation that whichever pick we make is expected to jump straight into our lineup and the expectation is to have some development time. Just because Benning expects to contend next year doesn't mean our draft plan is affected by that idea. If it's the case, then we would be trading the pick for a ready now player instead of selecting a young kid that is going to be years away regardless. Perhaps the idea that we have Demko could allow for us to consider moving DiPietro for immediate help now and drafting a top end goalie could replenish that hole if they are considering how drafting a goalie could "help now". I fully believe that a goalie being drafted is a very realistic possibility given that Wallstedt (or Cossa) could very well be available at our pick and could be the best option as well.
  4. One player that stands out with this criteria is Zachary L'Heureux. Seems to put up the numbers, but has gotten suspended twice this season for questionable hits. He's been ranked all over the place in the 1st round.
  5. The more I look into it, I like what I'm seeing from Svechkov. It may be a bit of a reach at #9, so perhaps we could move down a bit and maybe add another 2nd rounder and pick him. He's a solid two-way center (if we are looking to nab McTavish anyway) with some hidden offensive potential. I'm curious about his faceoff ability though.
  6. Assuming they're available which is unlikely, Eklund or Clarke (also Beniers). More realistically, McTavish (wouldn't be opposed to Wallstedt). If we go for a reach based on the public rankings so far, I'd go with Svechkov.
  7. Benning will pick BPA even if he has to wait. Podkolzin is an example of that. Most prospects need a year or two of development anyway, so for him to be playing against men in the KHL or VHL for a couple of years will help his development. Then he joins the Canucks in our supposed competitive window a couple years older having played against men and more importantly will be on an ELC contract that will be favourable towards a team willing to spend to the cap. If Svechkov is indeed the BPA on our board, he will be picked and I wouldn't be upset about it.
  8. Three times zero is still zero. In this case, Crosby is just as much trash as those two. Perhaps he's three over. As in three over zero, which makes him infinitely better than those two.
  9. To me, the problem wasn't Tavares. Toronto would've been a much different team had he not been injured. The problem was when Nylander held out and Dubas caved. They had a "plan" and at that point I think the plan got destroyed because of Dubas' arrogance in suggesting they will get all of their RFAs signed and overpaid losing cap flexibility. Matthews and Marner's agents were salivating as soon as Dubas caved on Nylander. Now Nylander was one of their better players these playoffs, but they would've been able to build a better overall team (even with Tavares) had they moved Nylander to help with their defense and not giving in to his demands (which may have had an effect on the Matthews and Marner contracts as well). Personally, I don't think JVR, Bozak, and Kadri would've moved the needle for them either. They had them and it didn't make much difference either. I liked the Tavares signing to pair with Matthews as their top 2 centermen. They overpaid on wing with Nylander and Marner, but I would've kept Marner over Nylander (and kept Kapanen instead although there was a rift between him and Matthews apparently).
  10. Oilers and Leafs choking are sure things. Canucks not winning the lottery and dropping spots is about the only other sure thing.
  11. @canuck2xtreme Finalizing some transactions, please adjust accordingly at your earliest convenience Lehkonen has played in the 2021 playoffs, the TB 2021 4th is now transferred to Philadelphia. Bortuzzo has played in the 2021 playoffs, the STL 2022 4th is now transferred to Minnesota @Dak Prescott Tyler Pitlick did not play in the 2021 playoffs, no pick is transferred to Philadelphia from Minnesota. Philadelphia will not be extending an offer to Nick Bjugstad and will let him hit free agency (we wish him the best of luck in the next step of his career). Philadelphia retains the NJ 2022 4th.
  12. Philadelphia Flyers Round 2 Roster Nick Foligno* - Travis Zajac Mike Reilly - Jeff Petry* Nick Wolff - Scott Mayfield Marc-Andre Fleury *Whoever advances Thanks for an excited series @Paul Vanderhoek. Wiped out half of our roster to barely get past you. Hopefully more hard fought battles against you in the future. Good luck on the next steps for your organization!
  13. I love that this thread has 41 pages in only 16 hours!
  14. First and foremost, congratulations to my fellow GMs @Sludge and @Squeak for the shared honour. Also thanks to all the GMs that voted for me and appreciated the work that we have done over the past year here. As a rookie GM here, our expectations weren't high. Our ultimate goal was to take a team that finished 6th from last and build a playoff team. We knew we needed to revamp the roster and the entire organization. We recognized a couple core pieces that we wanted to build around and went from there. We made rookie mistakes of course on the way, but they were all well intentioned moves to get us in the right direction. The team just started hot from the get-go, remained steady and then surged up late in the year. We now likely finish the regular season with a President's trophy. Couldn't be more proud of the team. Another area of focus was the prospect pool. We basically had none when I joined the Flyers organization. So we took some regular season risks to try and bolster this area. I think we had a decent prospect pool now with at least 12 more picks in the upcoming draft. So while we are elated with how this season has gone, we know there is a lot more work ahead to build sustainability. We hope that we have built a good environment for our players and hope that we can continue our vision to build a successful team for the long haul and hopefully a championship sooner than later. I would also like to thank my Mom and Da....*cut the mic, cue the music and go to commercial break*

  17. We can still win a lottery pick....oh who am I kidding, you're right, there goes our chances
  18. You know why right? That isn't the benchmark price.
  19. But how long will that 3rd line last before it bursts into flames?
  20. Fair enough, I guess like I said, it'll depends on border and quarantine rules as that could delay him being home when needed as opposed to staying in Canada. I don't think it's a lock that he signs here, but I suspect he would want to stay in Western Canada assuming the world hasn't drastically changed in the next few months.
  21. Depends on border closure and quarantine procedures down the road. Outbreaks can/will happen anywhere. Say even if it is a possibility that he's willing to go to Seattle, well if what we lose in expansion is a pending UFA that didn't want to sign here anyway (for the reasons you suggest), then I consider that a win in not losing a valuable piece that wants to be here in the first place. If wants to be here, he's in full control by taking himself to UFA.
