  1. Sutter, Baertschi, Benn and Spooner are off the books next year at this point.
  2. The NTC is only for the 1st year. Then becomes a M-NTC in year 2 and then no trade clauses for year 3 which would be his UFA year. He's been in our top 6 during pretty much his entire time here, so I wouldn't call him a "depth" player. He's not having the best season this year, but his overall time as a Canuck so far has been above average of his career prior offensively. He can PK as well. He took a 500k "pay cut" from his previous contract.
  3. Pending trade call, we would like to assign F Nick Caamano to the Philadelphia Phantoms.
  4. Yeah after I found it and re-read it, I got that. But hearing the severity on some players and the fact that it's a highly contagious variant for some, I personally would not be upset if our season was done. I'll be glad to catch a few more games if safe. I just see about a month left of the season and if there's a further delay of two weeks into that, then I just wonder if there really is a point in continuing given the outbreak rather than a couple of players affected. Might only be about 9 games that could be played if we don't absolutely compact the schedule and if we aren't even eliminated at that point. The playoff teams may choose to rest their players against us at that point and it just becomes a preseason style game where the guys just want to get it done and over with anyway. But yes we will see how it plays out. I'm fine either way as long as player safety is the priority over revenues.
  5. I guess it's more speculation and I misinterpreted it. But if his speculation is indeed what the league is thinking and we are basically mathematically eliminated by the time our 2-3 week break is over, then that could shut us down if not already determined already for Calgary and Ottawa as well.
  6. Why should the non-playoff teams even bother trying against the playoff teams if it hurts their odds for the draft? Why increase the risk on the actual playoff teams and playoff revenue? I could see if Montreal starts to falter and their being an actual race still for the playoffs for Vancouver and Calgary that they will continue as far as they can, so it is smart to create that flexibility. However if the top 4 teams are known, there isn't much benefit for the teams to continue beyond the financial aspect where having a smooth playoffs would be more important I would think.
  7. There is already talks of shutting down Calgary and Ottawa as well. The rest could determine their playoff fate. There was already plans in case they had to shorten seasons to simply go with points percentage. Last year's play-ins were determined based on points percentage despite not every team having the same number of games. The players' health and preserving the teams that will be playing in the playoffs has to be the top priority for the league. If worrying about draft seeding, then Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver may as well tank as many games possible to increase their odds if they're already mathematically eliminated. Doesn't seem to be a need to play these games and increase any risk to the actual playoffs.
  8. Will have to quarantine if we decide to bring them up from Utica. Don't know exactly what's going on there in the first place, so don't know who has been affected, but they've been down for quite some time now. There may be benefit for us to get some players some game time, but may not be of best interest of the league for them to decide that it's worth the risk of playing meaningless games that could affect the playoff teams.
  9. Aside from Montreal, every team has caught up and even surpassed us now in games played amongst the North. And like I said, Montreal will also catch up while we are off likely at least two weeks and we may already be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs by then. Playing "meaningless" games that may risk potential transmission to playoff teams may not be of best interest for the league. If we get this under control quickly and Montreal falters, then it's more likely they try to get things back rolling if seemed safe. If we are going to have games out right cancelled anyway, then what's the point of playing the others if there are no playoff implications?
  10. Montreal had 2 players out. We have 8+staff and maybe a taxi squad player on top. Plus with news that maybe even more positives coming with news of a variant amongst those. The Comets have been on pause for even longer prior to this as well. We may already be mathematically eliminated in a couple of weeks. I'm all for getting more games in to potentially see some of the young guys like Lind get some game time for example. But I could see the league not wanting to risk any more transmission amongst the playoff teams (as they're talking of shutting down even Calgary and Ottawa as well if they're also mathematically eliminated) as it'll be more disruptive to the league if something did happen. Could also see the BC government stepping in somehow if they found out the Canucks weren't following protocols. I assume a lot will be determined in those games that Montreal does play to catch up in games played to see where they go with this.
  11. The Comets have been shutdown for quite a while as well due to covid as well.
  12. Those happened earlier in the season allowing them to reschedule games. We will see if they get things under control. Even a taxi squad player is tested positive apparently. Would be nice to catch a few more games this season, but this happening this late in the season doesn't look promising.
  13. I'd like to be optimistic as well, but with how wide spread it is and how close we are to the end of the season, it's likely that they'd just call it. I think it's more important for their health and they won't be able to postpone all of the games that they will miss given that they want to end the regular season on May 8th. Two more weeks of a break would give 3 weeks left of a season with basically not much else to play for.
  14. Well see you next season boys, take care of yourselves and get better.
  15. I've tried this once before. Was told he no longer meets the criteria of being waiver-free.
  16. We would like to thank Ron Hainsey for what he has done for our organization. He will be finishing his final season with us and has let us know that he will be retiring and taking on a new role with the NHLPA in which we congratulate him for. All the best Ron!
  17. Last years top 2 leading goal scorers were Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point, both around 5'10-5'11 and 183 lbs. Gusev had 44 points in 66 games last season and had 82 points in 62 games in his final KHL season which he on top added 19 points in 18 playoff games. Not saying Gusev will become either of those players, but he's a lot more potential in doing so than JV and we could use some offensive flair right now. Plus his contract ends this season, so there really isn't much risk in giving him a shot if we have the cap space to do so (which I find to be the biggest hurdle here). With that said, I disagree with moving out JV for Gusev. However, talking about JV's playoff performance when it counts was said last playoffs as well and it was underwhelming to say the least. If Gusev does clear waivers, I'd be curious if they'd swap him with Baertschi.
  18. If we can fit him in cap-wise, I'd take a look at Gusev. He's only got this year left on his contract.
  19. The league will consider firing Marchand into the sun
  20. Not tanking, but I could move some players for picks in the off-season
  21. We are very happy to have our assistant captain Jeff here for another 5 years. We hope he continues to have his Norris level of play for the next few years as we push for a championship. We are glad he sees our vision and wants to remain part of our core to hopefully get us to that ultimate goal.
