  1. ^Haha nice... just another reason to keep this thread alive and well!
  2. I thought he was a lot more effective tonight when he started being all feisty again, getting in scrums and not being afraid to mix it up. I honestly feel that's the way he has to play to be effective. When MG and AV tell him to shut it it's they put a leash and a muzzle on him so he has no bite to his game, and when he loses that part of his game it seems like he's just not as good or energetic. But oh my goodness... I missed the old Burrows with his agitating ways and it was good to see him back! Classic Burr getting involved in the scrums tonight in a chippy game, not backing down form anyone.
  3. I thought he had a rough start to the game tonight but got a lot better as the game wore on and really clicked well with the Sedins in generating some good shifts in the offensive zone. I hope he can finally get his mojo back and start scoring some goals again. For me he's been lacking that "moxie" he's had for all of his career, and it'd be great to see him play with that spunk again.
  4. How did you find out it was 25 minutes? On the radio? Man I really wish the AHL published the players' ice times on the game sheets too.
  5. The IceDogs do seem to have a good team, so hopefully Archibald and Friesen have a good long playoff run. Everyone was all hyped up when Hodgson took his Battalion team to the OHL Finals in '09, and Sauve had a nice run to the QMJHL Finals too last year. So hopefully Friesen and Archie can make it 3 years in a row. Going on long playoff runs like that is invaluable experience that you just can't simulate in training or other modes of development.
  6. Apparently at the draft interviews in 2009 he was asked by teams on what areas of his game he could improve. And his answer, to their surprise, was pretty much "Nothing at all, I don't have to improve in anything". This was the root of all the supposed "character issues" that people were harping on him for. Personally I don't think this was as big of an issue as some people made it out to be - just the mindset of a young kid who was so accustomed to personal success and doing well at every level he had played up to this point in his career. Maybe those comments were a little short-sighted as he wasn't even in the NHL yet, but I didn't think it was that big a deal. It's not like you can't change the way you approach the game (just ask Bieksa). Right after his draft Schroeder didn't do as well as in his draft year. Why? A few times I read some U of M fans' opinions about how he floated and didn't try hard enough for the team because he was frustrated as well as disinterested from having almost no support offensively. Other times I heard about him simply being unable to produce because his teammates could not finish the plays he set up for them, and was too unselfish to just shoot the puck himself instead when presented with an opportunity. Maybe he just missed having Ryan Stoa on his line. Jay Barriball was lost for the season early that year too so that didn't help matters. He did play better after coming back from the WJC's though, and playing with Jacob Cepis the rest of the season seemed to help reinvigorate him also. Whatever the case may be, I'm not trying to stir up anything here because I'm glad as heck that he got the f*ck out of that program at U of M, but I'm just happy that he's under our coaches' guidance and teaching now. Any attitude problems that he might have had before will surely be hammered out of him because if he doesn't then he's not making the NHL. It's as simple as that. Noel is a good teacher and I'm sure he'll do a fine job in coaching him to become a better player in all facets of the game. Him making the move to the Moose was the best decision for his career he could've made IMO, and probably should have moved to the WHL right after his draft, too.
  7. I love how the rep system comes back and right away the first thing people do is go to Page 1 and kill his rep all over again Now it's back at -654 ahhaha
  8. But... dat was a slewfoot! Dat was a slewfoot!
  9. Burr will always be a part of Canucks history now!
  10. YEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Keep giving us a reason to bump this thread Burrows!
  11. Could be squeezing the stick a little tightly given his goalless drought to start the season. I think he needs to start being a little selfish and shoot the puck more. Even if they don't go in it should create chances for his linemates. He does have a pretty nice shot after all, but just needs to learn to use it more.
  12. Pretty much every single reply to the OP in the 1st page, except for a few, have the "popular" rating .
  13. Apparently Burrows' shoulder injury was pretty serious so while a couple of days of rest might have helped a little, it ultimately might not have made much of a difference in the end. I really do think that you have to be lucky in terms of injuries during the playoffs, and we've had some absolutely rotten luck during the past two playoff campaigns. If Burrows and Kesler weren't injured that series really could've turned out differently. Plus it was revealed that our defence seemed to be made of porcelain throughout the season, which didn't help matters. That being said, however... f*ck Malkin! I hope he gets what's coming to him.
  14. lol the 'Michael Grabner Is Atrocious' thread is just like this one, OP got burned the same way clutch did ahah Two epic threads - hope Burr and Grabby both keep putting these 2 OP's to shame.
  15. But you're comparing a forward and a goalie though... This is very true IMO. It's also why we all appreciate having Mike Keane down with Manitoba so much, because he's a real leader and shows the young guys the ropes. Having them up with the big team can't hurt either as they'll learn what it takes to be a pro, in terms of attitude, work ethic etc. And your point about the barrier to guys in the AHL also makes a lot of sense. A lot of times, that barrier is just a mental one. But if the player realizes that they have to work even harder, play to their strengths as well as keep on improving other areas of their game they'll have a good chance to get the first re-call back up. I also think that sometimes it's hard for players to shine down in the AHL - not because they're bad, but because their team or line mates aren't all that good, so they're not putting up as many points as they'd like. I remember reading somewhere about how a lot of AHLer's do have the skill to play at the NHL level, but the only difference is their consistency, game in, game out - all in the head.
  16. Towards the end of the playoffs he was centering a line with Desbiens and Kevin Clark. He and Desbiens seemed to have some real chemistry together, which was great to see. The classic case of power forward creating space for the playmaker to weave his magic. Pretty much all the points that those 2 put up in these playoffs came in the last 4 or so games of this series.
  17. Hodgson was pretty much exhausted already when he was assigned to the Moose last year, but still managed 6 pts in 11 games played (in the playoffs too, no less). As for Schroeder, it's true that he's had a fantastic start to his pro career, but I'd like to see him spend a whole year down in the AHL just so he can adjust to the tougher 80 game schedule, rather than a 40 game one played mostly on Fridays and Saturdays. Hodgson joining the Moose last year and Schroeder joining Manitoba this year are two different situations - you can't really compare the two when it comes to their pro performance.
  18. The Moose CAN beat the Bulldogs - they just have to show it out there. Good on Schroeder for lighting it up tonight and helping the team get payback for last game's blowout loss.
  19. Sweet - if this is true then he'll finally get to play good minutes, not 5 minutes of ice time on the 4th line Now if Gillis can sign a few more young free agent D-men for depth in our system that'd be awesome.
  20. Yeah it sucks that now when lots of people finally want to watch the Moose, the stream isn't on anymore. Dang...
