Have some of you older folks around here seen Mad Men? It's set in the 60s and gives viewers a glimpse of the prevailing attitudes towards many issues as well as reactions to many of the events occurring at that time.
Of course nothing can actually compare with living through those times but I really love shows that provide us a window so that we can get a glimpse of the past through the eyes of ordinary people.

The characters are far from the ordinary people. But anyways..
I didn't live through that era, but my parents did and it was actually my Dad that turned me on to the show. According to him, the drink and smoke, business culture in the movie was pretty accurate from what he remembers of the 60's.
He said he really enjoyed it because it reminded him of all the squares he f#@$ing hated back then, got to reminisce about his teens, and his trip to Woodstock.... then he didn't shut up for a few hours..
I watched a few episodes, thought the costumes and sets were cool, didn't find it meaningful or engaging and never watched it again. My wife loved it though.

The problem with a lot of shows. The characters were not identifiable. That's where movies like The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit, or even The Apartment. There were scumbags, but the characters you got to understand, empathize with them to some extent.
Sort of like the Battlestar Galactica, I really didn't care much if all about the characters (For the exception of Adama). Just like even the Walking Dead. When you start finding the zombies have more redeeming characteristics, you know somethings wrong.
