You get one free punch to any active NHL player without any repercussions, legal or physical. Who would you choose? Remember, they have to be an active NHL player.
I would say Trevor Zegras.

Gosh! The price of cell phones these days - the fancy ones! My goodness almost a $1,000 or more! I was changing my auto pay to get my discount per month, because that's like $60 a year! But my goodness!

As @King Heffy mentioned, newer doesn't always mean better. I haven't upgraded my phone in years, and I don't plan on doing so for several more.

#AssetManagement Toronto edition
Here is Toronto's trade history of 1st rounders and add-ons since 2019
2019 - Grundstrom (2nd) Durzi (2nd) 1st round pick (22nd OA) for Muzzin
2020 - gave away 13OA (Seth Jarvis) to get rid of the Marleau contract
2021 - traded away 25OA (Corson Ceulemans) to acquire Noesen and Foligno... both no longer with the TML
2022 - gave away to get rid of Mrazek contract... did get back a 2nd round pick (Fraser Minten) who had a very meh season and very underwhelming playoff as a D+1 player.
2023 - traded away 25OA (Otto Stenberg) to acquire Ryan O'Reilly who signed with the Preds as a UFA.
2024 - still owned by the TML but will probably have to attach it to Murray to trade away that boat anchor of a contract
2025 - traded away with other prospects to acquire Jake McCabe and Sam Lafferty
the Leafs have traded away 6 first round picks for 1 playoff series win and only have McCabe and Lafftery left to show for it.-
Honestly I feel like Jarvis is worth more than that entire list, and he was drafted at #14. Grundstrom is nothing special, Durzi just got traded for a song. Ceulemans is young but hasn't really done enough to put himself on the radar and Stenberg is still a shiny toy.
It's not easy to get difference makers from late picks. It makes me wonder if Gillis had been more aggressive and traded away the picks that eventually became Schroeder, Gauce, Jensen, Rodin etc.

Benning should now be the most hated Canuck in franchise history. He has ruined this team in such a way that Messier couldn't even imagine.
-
I was hopeful we could come out of the Benning era relatively unscathed, but the buyout has eliminated that outcome. I can't believe I actually felt sorry for Benning towards the end of his tenure, when the banners were flying and vitriol reached a fever pitch. After yesterday, I feel zero sympathy towards him anymore, **** that guy, he was only out for himself.

Barzal done for the season. 1st could be next years at this point
-
@Elias Pettersson Nah if that happens Lou is the type to kick the can down the road. Keep in mind when the league penalized the Devils for the Kovalchuk contract, everyone expected him to give up the 29th overall pick but he ended up using it to draft Matteau. He will keeping us waiting till the last possible moment then deal off the pick to acquire another player. I am hoping the Isles finish between 13-15 so he doesn't have that chance.

Dan Murphy is actually trying to compare the Horvat trade to the Linden trade to the Islanders when the Canucks got Bertuzzi & Mccabe. Totally ridiculous. Bertuzzi & Mccabe were already established players.

ny jets cut bell.... why do I cheer for this team
-
The Steelers should have kept him and the Jets should have never signed him. Steelers definitely make the playoffs the first year when he sat out and they likely make it the next year, of course its tough to say as the Fitzpatrick trade was a big part of their season last year and I am not sure how that would have been complicated by having Bell on the cap. I think Steelers fans unfairly lump Brown and Bell, Brown was legitimately a headcase, they dumped him too late. Bell doesn't have the same issues as Brown, which is why I believe the Steelers even tried trading for him last year. James Connor is not close to a replacement for what Bell did in that offense. Also Adam Gase is just a clueless HC, the only reason why he still has a job is because who wants to commit career suicide by trying to coach this Jets team?

I thought CDC was a public forum where all are welcome. Didn't realize that some threads are only for those with the same ideals. In other words, unless you're a bully and loathe Trump, do NOT post in that thread.

There is a difference between being loud and being the one to shout fire in a crowded theatre. I disagree frequently with politicians, very rarely do I find them utterly repulsive. Anyway I digress, probably not the right place for this discussion. I will let @Heretic get back to his pity party.

It’s sad that we’ve gotten to a point in society where athletes have to not play games to help bring awareness to racism.

Why is anyone still listening to Mike Milbury? or paying him for that matter?

PAID THE PRICE... FOR YOUR BETRAYAL...

We have a fanbase that likes to overemphasize our failures, and minimize our successes. Where are those people now?
-
Hey Alf let us know you are OK.
-
What I did on my summer vacation.
I was getting much too negative on here so I gave myself a 6 week self imposed time out. So I went over to HF Boards and trolled the Benning haters until I got banned it was fun and therapeutic.
-
Has anyone heard from Alf?
-
@-Vintage Canuck- Do you have his handle? I am way too curious now.

OMG..what whiner you are.?....If you're going to call out CDC on HFCanucks.Go there, and frickin stay there.
The worst type of fan...
I am going to post what you posted on hf canucks here...
"Like probably quite a few others on here, I'm a member of CDC as well, though until today hadn't gone to CDC in quite some time. Today I went to see what the buzz was on which of the Black Aces stuck with the Canucks, though without using my identity to log in.
Looking at the threads, the first one that caught my eye wasn't about the Black Aces but about Jim Benning. The original poster was trying to figure out just how good he was and his conclusion was that the best comparison was Bill Torrey, original general manager of the New York Islanders, who had that franchise in the Stanley Cup finals in their 3rd, 4th and 5th seasons in existence, in the playoffs for 14 consecutive seasons and won four Cups with the Islanders.
The next example given, by another poster, was Jim Devellano, who was hired as GM of the Red Wings by their new owner in 1982. The Wings had just missed the playoffs four years in a row. Under Devellano the Wings made the division semi-finals in his 2nd and 3rd seasons, won four Cups and made the playoffs sixteen consecutive seasons.
A third example of greatness similar to our Canuck GM was given by another poster, who didn't name the comparable general manager but was of the opinion that Benning's record was comparable with the drafting done by the Oilers in their first three NHL drafts. In their first draft the Oilers drafted Kevin Lowe as the last pick in the 1st round, had no second round pick, took Mark Messier in the 3rd round and Glenn Anderson in the 4th. They followed that with Paul Coffey, Jari Kurri, Walt Poddubny and Andy Moog in 1980 and Grant Fuhr and Steve Smith in 1981. The Oilers made the playoffs in each of their first 13 seasons in the NHL, including five Cup wins.
There you have it, folks. Our very own Jim Benning is comparable to Bill Torrey, Jim Devellano and his drafting comparable to that done by the Oilers in 1979-81, while some of us just don't properly appreciate it.
It must be really nice to be able to live in a world of alternate reality and be able to believe in it."Two faced Twit.

Two different communities. But I see enough whining on both sides about the opinions on the other side. If you can't handle criticism of management then you probably shouldn't go to HFCanucks and if you cannot handle support of management then you probably shouldn't venture onto CDC. I have seen value in discussions being had on both forums so blanket dismissals don't really hold any appeal to me. There are times when I feel like HFCanucks is a cesspool just like I think sometimes CDC has a hive mindset. Regardless I would advise you to not bring drama from there to here and vice versa. I would have just responded to the post over there.

How do others go to sleep at a decent hour and I don't?!!
-
Define 'decent hour'. Now days I make sure I sleep around midnight. Rogan had a sleep expert on and he said that sleep loss can accelerate aging. That kind of scared me as I used to be someone who took pride in on how little rest I needed to function. Not anymore, I try to get at least 6-7 hours every night.

Benning wanted Connor Bleackley and the scouts wanted David Pasternak. Took Mccann when when Bleackley was gone. Fire this clown before he destroys the drafting
-
if we got the first oa pick, would you trade the pick and eriksson to detroit for the 4 oa pick and joe veleno?
-
This is very stupid indeed but I saw a video where OTT will trade their 5th overall for a 1st line player. Would anyone here do JT Miller for 5th overall. I know this will NEVER happen but just outta curiosity.
-
How huge is it that Rafferty and Rathbone have developed into legitimate prospects?
-
@canuktravella Because those lineups never pan out. Remember when you were putting Fox, Gaunce and Jensen into your future lineups, because I do. You need to shelter defenseman, bring them along slowly. Baby steps at first, sheltered role in third pairing, then slowly less sheltered minutes, maybe some time on the PK, and depending on performance you gradually give them responsibility. You are plugging guys into the lineup like they are blue-chip prospects like Hughes, Makar, Heiskanen. Playing D is hard in the NHL. You have 4 defenseman in that lineup with a combined 134 games of experience. Its a recipe for getting peppered every night.

-
Production is nice but as a defenseman it is relative to the role one is playing, including deployment and whether one gets PP time with the #1 unit, #2 unit etc.
Hughes is a special case in his acclimation to the NHL, most guys aren't going to get there nearly as quickly. We need to see what Rafferty does in camp. Assuming he wins a spot he will need to be sheltered and eased into the bottom pairing and then slowly exposed to more responsibility.
Rathbone will need some time acclimating to the pros in the AHL before he can make the jump. No one should be suggesting we walk away from Tanev, he is irreplaceable to us currently.

The NHL is looking at the possibility of having every game played in BC and not just in Vancouver places like Kelowna, Kamloops, Victoria, PG etc., all could be hosts since they have WHL rinks and facilities.

Finally arrested these two assholes
