  1. By releasing I think you mean reporting, in which case I agree but I believe the story still has yet to be confirmed or denied. Simmons has a source but no one has come out and confirmed the Matthews story like Rocky Arcenaux did with Zeke.
  2. I find Simmons crying and playing the victim to be rather funny as well. His reputation as a tabloid journalist among hockey fans is the reason why he received the reaction that he did. Releasing someone's private medical information without their permission generally shows a lack of journalistic integrity but that wasn't why they were calling him an idiot and a clown... https://torontosun.com/2015/07/01/leafs-were-sick-and-tired-of-kessel/wcm/a88abc48-cff7-4824-85b8-d13ca510f3c4 Phil did get the last laugh though.
  3. No ifs unfortunately. https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/carcillos-former-teammates-back-up-hazing-and-sexual-assault-allegations
  4. This isn't surprising, it was social conservatism that got many of these people into office. Social conservatives have no qualms with science when it conforms to their beliefs, but when it becomes incompatible is when they begin to disparage the experts, accusing them of nefarious plots etc. The conspiracies are just a healthy dose of paranoia and fear to combat factual information. The strategy works great if you are aiming to win an election, ie. just accuse your opponent of witchery. Doesn't work so great when your opponent isn't even human.
  5. I agree with him, its dumb what's going on. People have already surrendered their privacy willingly and have all of their personal info on their social media page. They have all sorts of apps in their phones tracking all the things they are supposedly paranoid about. But bring the government into the equation and now suddenly they care about privacy? Its just peak hypocrisy. Casting the officials that we elected into office as part of some shadowy communist takeover is just fear mongering which is counterproductive if our end goal is better governance.
  6. League doesn't want names of players to leak, my guess is PA is asking for privacy. TSN and Sportsnet as the league's big name media partners have to respect those guidelines. A guy like Simmons has no obligation to withhold this story.
  7. https://globalnews.ca/video/6099005/racist-tirade-caught-on-camera-at-burnaby-drug-store This one always makes me laugh. "Shut the &^@# up!" followed by "You are rude!" "Go back to your country" followed by "You are rude!" Its rare to see someone this oblivious, its almost impressive in some ways.
  8. The adults usually tend to look the other way. Kids are especially vulnerable being away from their families, you probably know your billet family as much as your teammates. Are you going to be talking about the abuse with relative strangers? Probably not, so stuff just keeps getting shoved under the rug. When the family calls lots of kids just put on a brave face and tell them how great it is to live out the dream. And believe me there is something of an status that comes with being a player in the major junior. Family has made sacrifices to allow the kid to live out their dream so kids feel even more pressure to live up to demands of coaches and society. In hockey especially coaches have a ton of control over your destiny, whether you get to play and with whom. Edit: Just want to clarify that I am not saying that Carcillo's experience is the norm, there was something seriously wrong with that Sting team.
  9. Yeah some of this makes masturbating into a potted plant seem like polite behaviour.
  10. https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/more-explosive-and-shocking-allegations-against-junior-hockey-in-newly-filed-lawsuit As someone who has followed junior hockey and specifically the OHL for a long a time. This does not shock me at all, most of this has already been covered.
  11. I don't mind putting it all on Marx but I think we should also blame Jesus, gave us a vision incomprehensible and incompatible to the nature of the average human being. Loads of human beings appropriated his ideas to commit all kinds of atrocities which are of course Jesus' fault.
  12. The world is largely unfair so yes personal responsibility only goes so far. Peterson philosophy isn't original, history will show many figures who managed to become great influencers by championing that men take accountability for their own lives and choices rather than engage in victimhood by blaming others. I will admit that Peterson's message holds great appeal to me, but I realized a long time ago that there were limits to this. I only have a problem with some of Peterson's supporters who will use his teachings out of context to put down others. I don't think JP has made any efforts to rein in this element of his support and hence I don't take umbrage with those who seem unsympathetic to his plight. I believe Jimmy was a little harsh but he wasn't entirely wrong, "you reap what you sow" is after all Jordan Peterson's philosophy boiled down to its essence.
  13. By my interpretation the post below seeks to minimize Peterson's personal responsibility for his addiction. I can tell you aren't one of Peterson's disciples otherwise you would have a better understanding of the irony of this situation. You would for example never cast blame towards the doctor prescribing the drugs because that would a gross violation of Petersonism, which states that your personal responsibility doesn't end based on a doctor's prescription.
  14. I actually believe strongly in Peterson's beliefs regarding personal responsibility, I am a product of my choices. Peterson made the choices that resulted in addiction thus the blame falls squarely upon his shoulders based upon his own belief system. I am judging Peterson based upon the standard that he promoted to cultivate a following. Its ironic because a lot of the same following looks down upon "drug addicts" which Peterson now happens to be.
  15. Most definitely which is why I gave him my condolences regarding the tragedy of losing his wife. I just don't believe that his drug problem is worthy of my empathy based on his own words.
  16. I don't believe an intellectual like Peterson was unaware of the risks of prescription medication. This left him with a choice, take the drugs or not to take the drugs. This is what Peterson has always advocated for, personal accountability. Why should we not hold JP to the standard that he himself advocates instead of casting blame on his doctor?
  17. I enjoyed your Socrates anecdote. I have always wondered if the internet having a record of every opinion you have ever expressed on a public platform makes people dig in even more. To avoid appearing as a flip flopper people often double down. I find that conversations in person (strangers) generally seem to result in compromise a lot more often than on the internet.
  18. Regardless of circumstance Jordan Peterson has always advocated for personal responsibility. Based upon his own intellectualizing I don't believe he wants nor does is he deserving of my empathy for the choices he has made in his life.
  19. Any time you allow one-click approval or disapproval you cheapen the conversation. That's just how I see it. That is why the internet was much better for discourse before we could like/upvote something.
  20. Are you not mirroring their behaviour? Partisanship is looking away from the facts and sticking to anecdotes that support your view of the world. Saying that Don Cherry got in trouble for 2 words is patently false. This is what got him in trouble. You people that come here = immigrants and included with the context of "our way of life", "our milk and honey". Cherry is implying that immigrants are a bunch of ungrateful people who don't care for the sacrifices made by our veterans & military families. Do you think it is appropriate to single out immigrants for not wearing poppies? As far as the subject matter of this thread, my condolences to Jordan Peterson for his loss. I don't have sympathy towards him for his drug problems, those are of his own doing and as someone who champions personal responsibility I think JP wouldn't take issue with this view like his supporters seem to be doing.
  21. https://ottawasun.com/opinion/columnists/gibbons-melnyks-tussle-with-sens-foundation-could-be-a-messy-one Personally I blame Melnyk's organ donor, if it weren't for a liver we wouldn't be here.
  22. https://www.sportsnet.ca/650/the-program/trevor-linden-relationship-now-canucks-jim-benning/ Linden goes into the scouting process around the 7min mark. In many ways I preferred our organizational structure with Linden and Brackett in the fold. To be honest I didn't consider Linden a big loss as I thought that Benning had earned the right to oversee the entire operation. Cutting out Brackett to give more authority to Weisbrod just makes me shake my head on the other hand.
  23. Young people are dumb but its ok because remember you were dumb too, once upon a time ago. This is just so idiotic and irresponsible, not even sure what the author means about cutting these idiots some "slack". The only way we could give them anymore slack is by praising them for their entitlement. I also know plenty of "young people" who are following guidelines to the letter so its clearly not behaviour that is endemic in any particular generation.
  24. Looking at the video, he only takes his eyes off the road for a few seconds and he doesn't appear going too fast, with a single car ahead of him at a fair bit of distance. I don't think there was any chance that he was going to get into an accident. To me this doesn't make him seem reckless or stupid but I think it speaks to his maturity because I cannot see someone like Petey or Bo ever posting such a video. Its just not a smart idea to film yourself breaking the law, posting it on social media is even dumber and the reason why people do things like this is to chase clout on social media. I recently suggested that we sign him to a long term contract but honestly I think he still needs to do some growing to receive that kind of commitment. File this under "What the hell were you thinking?"
