  1. There are dregs in every community and these hooligans can only be described as that. I don't even believe these people are angry, they are just greedy POSs who turn a peaceful protest into a riot so that they can capitalize on the chaos. If you come out in protest of the man that was slain and his grieving family, you don't behave this way. No matter how great the cause there will always be a small minority of selfish assholes who ruin everything for everyone.
  2. Immediately thought of this and I was glad to see others have already picked up on it. The below was a response to the above but the right has spent an inordinate amount of time complaining about Kaepernick while not even acknowledging the reason for his protest. "Get that son of a bitch off the field"
  3. If I am understanding the lottery correctly they are going to use placeholders for picks 8-15, if a placeholder pick wins a top 3 pick then a separate lottery will be held with equal odds for all the teams that lost in the play-in. There is a very real possibility that losing would give you a 1/8 chance at a top 3 pick. Imagine if one of the placeholder picks win 1st overall, Habs fans would want to tank for a 1/8 chance at Lafraniere than an improbable run to the end.
  4. Agreed. On the other hand Davies looked pretty good to me.
  5. No doubt if we all wore masks and used them properly this would be a moot point. I just got my mask about a week or so ago and I have been out to do grocery, Canadian tire, pharmacy. People believe that masks provide them immunity from the virus, I have seen more people not respect my space when I was wearing a mask than when I was without one. The original WHO recommendation makes sense now with my experience using one.
  6. Dismissing statistics as a whole because J.D. Burke is the one interpreting them seems like a puzzling decision to say the least. Its like the people who cite Chayka being a mediocre GM in Arizona as a failure of analytics, despite the evidence that every team in the NHL now has an analytics department. I would caution against a mentality of throwing the baby out with the bath water.
  7. Fans of football teams in the AFC should crowdfund a billboard in Tampa with this as a housewarming gift.
  8. Its just ironic because you have sat here and consistently championed a business model which involves paying the top executives of corporations millions of dollars in compensation while workers can barely earn a livable wage. In response to critics of this model you have argued that workers need to improve their skillsets to command higher pay. Now those same people are dying in droves due to this pandemic because a person's economic outlook has a big role to play in their well being both mentally and physically. I am just curious and I think this is a fair question to ask. Do you actually care about these people dying or are you more concerned for the effect this pandemic is going to have on the economy?
  9. Because the layoff has been long enough to be a major disruption. Teams especially those with veterans will potentially have a tougher time getting right back into the swing of things. The NHL will have a mini training camp of sorts and then start the 1st round, where the teams in lower seeds will play each other. Teams that survive those rounds will then have an advantage on the higher seeds who haven't even played a game of competitive meaningful hockey. I can see some major upsets coming and that will just further delegitimize the competition. The NHL needs to salvage some revenue out of this season, cancelling will likely cause a major impact on the league's bottom line which is probably one of the only reasons I think this should go ahead.
  10. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nhl/news/nhl-2020-stanley-cup-playoffs-everything-we-know-about-resumption/36kbfimlv0nr13v1o1kusxhr2 With the PA approving a 24 team playoff format, I thought it would interesting to see public sentiment on CDC.
  11. If so I am sure we have all done some "sociopathic" things in our life. To me that was Michael being a dick, which he was known for being. You should see the video where Chamillionaire talks about meeting Michael. I don't really idolize athletes for the people that they are (Sedins being a rare exception to that rule), that is why I am not invested in defending Michael's honour the way you do with LeChina. Michael was a huge POS to a lot of people, that's a fact, it doesn't diminish who he was as a basketball player though. It also doesn't diminish the charitable contributions he has made, his impact on the game of basketball and sports culture in general. I also believe that neither of us knows any of these guys personally so to make statements like "he doesn't give a &^@# about anybody." is unfair. The man has a family, wife and kids which I am sure he loves. To see him sobbing on the floor of the locker room after winning his 4th championship on Father's day made me realize that we have more moments of Michael being extremely emotional and vulnerable than probably any other athlete. The crying Jordan meme which came from his HOF speech. And of course the video I already posted at Kobe's funeral. I actually think his problem is the other way around, I think he cares too much about other people. His competitiveness seems to make him see everything as a slight, and once he is slighted he will hold that grudge for a lifetime. That just seems unhealthy and a rather sad approach to life. When I picture him sitting around, I just see him grumbling into his drink based on some perceived slight either imaginary or real. I am no doctor but I am pretty sure your eyes are not supposed to be that colour, I would not be surprised if he is drinking himself into an early grave. That was kind of my takeaway from the Last Dance. As much as we celebrate his mentality because it led him to great success on a basketball court, it clearly left him with some deep character flaws. Some of us are much too old to be talked down to. You have a tendency to engage in pejoratives, it kind of indicates to me that you are a little too invested in this debate.
  12. Yeah I am pretty sure Michael Jordan can get emotional about other players. I have never gotten the impression that he is a sociopath. Now you are just going a little over the top. With that said I am bowing out this discussion.
  13. Watching Iverson's documentary left MJ in tears. Supposedly it was the impetus to him deciding to do The Last Dance. Others here believe that it was because he was threatened by a vastly inferior player in LeChina.
  14. This one always me a chuckle mostly because its the Jets.
  15. Occam's Razor. The simplest explanation is probably the right one. We hadn't drafted a defenseman in the first round in years. Our D pipeline was looking rather underwhelming at the time. Benning thought Juolevi had traits to his game that would translate to an effective NHL defenseman. I have always said that I have never seen fault with the Juolevi pick, I think he was well on track to becoming a top 6 defenseman until he suffered multiple injuries which has caused him to miss crucial development time. I won't speak on his future, I think that will be determined by him. I find that honest discussion is hard to be had when people intentionally buy into narratives in order to put management in the worst possible light or the best possible light. I have followed the OHL for a long time, especially the Knights because they are by far the most popular team. Rumours of character concerns leak pretty quickly. The Hunters also run a tight ship from the top down. Dale Hunter is not an easy coach to play for, so character concerns, I never heard of any. You don't want nor need a team full of choir boys to win, only Kyle Dubas believes you can win that way. The London Knights have had some of those on their teams like Horvat, Marner, Gagner, Tavares just like they have had some questionable characters in Kadri, Perry, Tkachuk and Kane. History tells us that all you need is a group of guys to buy into the culture and system. I get it that people don't like Tkachuk, and deservedly so but to say that he would not have fallen in line here or that he would not be an effective player is unsupported by the facts. Its imho just people trying to cast Benning/management in the best possible light as possible. After all Benning is an infallible draft guru who would never have missed on a player. I suppose now that I am looking at it critically I find it ironic that people like to decry media speculation when it puts management in a negative light all the while buying into their own personal speculation to put management in the best possible light as possible. The same people that believe Benning is some sort of "draft guru" are now scoffing when the media says that Brackett is the "draft guru". Personally I don't really believe in "draft gurus". Funnily enough it kind of reminds me of politics in how entrenched people are in their beliefs.
  16. Don't have a twitter account. Wouldn't create one. Twitter is usually where the dumbest hot-takes are proliferated. I don't believe that Twitter is representative of public opinion either. How am I being emotional? You are the one calling a respectable basketball player a "clown and an "idiot", all because he doesn't put LeChina in his top 5. You have gotten personal more than once in this discussion and I have yet to insult you for your opinion. It just screams to me that you are insecure and don't even believe what you are saying. You got to get your jabs in because you can't even refute the arguments put forth against LeChina. They are just so open and shut, and at this point you just appear flustered and angry that you have got nothing cogent to defend LeChina with. LeChina could not even dominate an old Dirk and Jason Terry, while having a superteam. You are just too much of a fan of LeChina to see the truth. Jordan in his prime could not be stopped period, he could be beaten but he was just as graceful in victory and in defeat. The only one worked up is you, my position is the consensus position of most basketball fans and people involved in the business. You've only got a few Twitter trolls who were but a twinkle in their father's eye when Jordan was in his heyday. He is LeChina until he stops spouting communist propaganda and admits that it wasn't Daryl Morey's comments that were ignorant but his own. But he won't because Nike pays him a lot of money and they have business interests in China, so its 'Shut up and dribble' for LeChina.
  17. Right just yesterday you were dismissing my opinion by questioning whether I had played the game. Now someone who has played the game at a high level gives his opinion and you have to call him names like "clown" & "idiot" etc. I don't think I need to explain to you what hypocrisy is. Usually people are this oblivious to their own hypocrisy when they are being emotional. And its all because he didn't put your favourite player in his top 5, which to me is far more reasonable a take than putting LeChina at #1 like you and other LeChina fans are doing. Most reasonable basketball fans even ones who did not like Jordan put him ahead of LeChina. The only ones who don't are usually just fanboying hard on LeChina, a lot of these fans are usually born after 1990 and tend to disrespect everything about the game and its history ticking off a lot of the older basketball fans. You and your ilk want to dismiss and disrespect a lot of great players just so you can rank LeChina at 1. It comes across to me as insecure and insincere to me. I don't think even you believe that LeChina is better than Jordan, you are just in denial and are doubling down. Like what? Talk about what was missing from Michael Jordan's game that wouldn't allow him to dominate in any era let alone the current soft NBA. I have given you my opinion on LeChina's weaknesses. You can only speak in platitudes.
  18. Lmao what does my basketball prowess have to be with my argument? Honestly how defensive and insecure you get in this argument just tells me even you don't quite believe what you are selling. Nope, Jordan was shredding defences long before Pippen even got there. He wasn't winning at a high clip I will give you that but he was a dominant player with little to no flaws to his game.
  19. Why were they able to lock up LeChina? Why was LeChina outplayed by Jason Terry in the 2011 Finals when he had teamed up a top 3 SG all time and an all NBA PF after promising not 1...not 2...but 7 championships? Your guy just has more chinks in his armour, I remember MJ in victory and in defeat shredding defences. I have seen first hand LeChina get "locked up". MJ was just a ticking time bomb, you could stave him off but that bomb was going to go off eventually. I just don't see the flaws in MJ that I see in LeChina. Late game free throws are another big one.
  20. I like consistency. I don't mind people changing their stances with new evidence but I can't respect flip-floppers whose opinions change when it becomes inconvenient to hold a particular position. Its logically incongruous to argue that Benning drafts character players but then he also drafted McCann (locker room cancer as per Andrey Pedan and Beth Bartowski). Benning also tried to sign Lucic... But somehow selecting Tkachuk would be a step too far. By no means are the people who get themselves into these logic pretzels representative of the fan base, no more so than the average HFCanucks poster.
  21. What is your source that Benning didn't draft Tkachuk because of character concerns? I have yet to hear any concerns coming out of Ottawa or Calgary regarding either of those players. Funnily enough Jared McCann a Benning draft pick is considered a locker room cancer because of something Beth Bartowski and Andrey Pedan said. Its almost like any player we pass on or trade suddenly becomes public enemy number 1 over here.
  22. That draft is an interesting one. Because piecing together some tidbits, the Canucks had PLD fairly high on their draft board. I think the draft board probably had Matthews, Laine, PLD as the top 3. Unfortunately Kekalainen grabbed PLD at 3 sending Puljujarvi tumbling to 4 where Edmonton grabbed him. I have read that Chiarelli was looking at taking a defenseman at #4 until Puljujarvi fell to them. I think at that point Benning didn't see too many home run players to pick, we hadn't drafted D in the first round in years. Tkachuk also ended up as better than expected. While he was a safe pick, his upside was questionable as he was playing on the same line in junior with Marner & Dvorak. I don't believe Benning should be crucified for going off the board to take Juolevi, injuries played a big factor as well.
  23. A lot of fandom is about "faith", this faith is rarely evidence based. Trump supporters often act exactly like sports fans, except the object of their fandom is Donald Trump. Therefore any information unflattering to Trump is quickly shot down as fake news. Also since the aforementioned faith was never based on any evidence, it cannot be damaged by evidence either. By making blanket accusations of all media as biased institutions, one (hypocritically) never has to admit to their own bias. As they say ignorance is bliss. Botchford (RIP) didn't shy away from asking the hard-hitting questions no matter how many people hated him on here. And I am glad for that because journalists should not be writing fluff pieces but questioning the words and actions of those in positions of power. With that said I am just not a fan of Burke, something about him rubs me the wrong way. IMac does hold some credibility with me, I don't think he would be "fabricating", "making it up", "lying", "dramatizing" etc.
  24. I click on this thread very reluctantly and mostly because its the most active thread on this forum. Imho this is the worst thread that has ever been created on this forum. Every time I come here I see someone $&!#ting all over someone else and vice versa. Its probably even worse than the Trump thread mostly because no one can seriously defend Trump's behaviour any more. It reminds me of a PGT after a bad loss where we surrendered a 3 goal lead lost in regulation and the opponent took liberties on our star players. Except it just keeps going on and on.
