I am not sure how much the state of the game is affected by PC culture. All sports have become fairly soft as safety has become a prominent issue. I see little wrong with that at least in the sense that there will less brain damaged athletes. The issue of lack of emotion is just that players are afraid of ending up frequently in front of the DOPS ala Tom Wilson. Wilson once famously said that he would never change his game regardless of suspensions but that is clearly not true anymore. Losing money and hurting your team is not worth it in the long run. The game is just different and we just have to make a choice to accept it or let it go. I don't watch nearly as much basketball as I did a decade ago or two decades ago. Its just not the same. That's fine I will just find other sources of entertainment if the current standard falls even more.

I think there will be people forming conclusions that may not be representative of the person that Brendan might be. There will be people reminding him about the stuff that he says till the day he dies because that's the way social media works. Its all about tearing someone down by using their perceived weaknesses against them. Cancel culture isn't a left problem, it is a people problem. We love to use whatever ammo we have to pick at people. We love to form our own conclusions based on limited evidence. We have all said horrible stuff to each other, those who haven't are born saints, others have to work through stuff in life to gain maturity. "Accountability" is frequently used as justification for any cruel and unusual punishment.

Weisbrod gone, Brackett promoted to AGM. Everything I have read about Weisbrod makes him seem like a used car salesman. Linden's high praise for Brackett tells me he was crucial to our success at the draft table. What exactly is Weisbrod's role? If it has anything to do with pro-scouting then he should turfed immediately.

Maybe you and I are simpatico on this topic because I perfectly understood your sentiment. Things said in private in an audience of a few friends, sometimes as an outsider you aren't going to understand the full context of what is being said. I have a group of college friends that I regularly keep in touch with through a common chat. This is a place where political correctness goes to die and I enjoy those discussions as I can share with a group of people any sentiment without being judged. Sometimes I might say something ironically or in jest, or for shock value. Something could just be an inside joke but it would be interpreted entirely differently outside of that group. We are used to busting each other's chops, its not meant to be taken personally even if it is personal. There is trust and a bond formed over years so you can get away with saying a lot of stuff that you wouldn't dare say out loud because it would undoubtedly cause hurt.

How many of us would look like self-entitled jerks if all our chats were released to the public. Not excusing Leipsic's misogynistic behaviour but this needs to be put into context. These messages were clearly intended for a certain audience and not for the masses. Reminds me of that season of South Park where everyone's internet history is being released by Denmark. People are judgmental and we rarely look in the mirror for reasons other than our vanity. What if these were a group of women doing the chatting. I bet it would be perceived differently. From personal experience women cannot be underestimated when it comes to viciousness, that and they have longer memories to boot, a truly deadly combination. Edit: No defense for the racist comment, deserves to be raked over the coals. Anyone who is racist toward Canada's long suffering Native population needs to revoke their citizenship and go die on an island somewhere.

To think the Republicans had 4 years and multiple opportunities to turf this clown but chose to stick by him. Had they impeached him and primaried Pence, put in someone sane, and they win the next election running on a strong economy (pre-virus). But alas they did not and now they will lose horribly in the next election. Even if Trump manages to hang on by the skin of his teeth, they are going to get obliterated in the down-ballot. There is no game plan here except to see how much $&!# talking Trump can do to con people into voting for him again. Trump already claims that America is "great", voters were energized by Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan, now he is running on "Keep America Great". There are many Trump voters who never got to experience "great", I don't expect to see close to the same sort of fervor for Trump, that we saw when he had no political record to speak of. This post was fun, kind of like doing the reverse-Boudrias.

Everything about Dallas is overrated. Their o-line failed to live up to the hype last year, couldn't stay healthy and now they lost Frederick to retirement. Zeke didn't eat as much as he should have last year. Now with the virus complicating matters, Dalton will have less time to develop rapport with his teammates. I am just saying if you are Eagles fan this sounds like a dream, another season where 9-7 might just win you the division.

Jake Virtanen's next contract (Discussion)
Toews replied to Toews's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Just to be clear I wasn't trying to put you on blast. I disagree with you but I don't think you are out to lunch. The return is crucial, if we can get a top 4 RHD who is still fairly youngish, I would obviously consider that but it has to be the right player. I would be very worried that we are essentially re-enacting the Hall for Larsson trade. -
Al Franken should have just announced he was running for the Presidency after the accusations against him came out.

Jake Virtanen had a fantastic season this year. He is young, he is hungry and I believe that having Miller on the team is just going to keep bringing out the best in Jake. I think he will just become better and better with time. I believe we should bet on Jake being a top 6 forward for us long term. Signing him long term is going to cost us in cap space in the short term but it is well worth it as a bridge would give us next to no leverage to negotiate his next contract, assuming my prediction holds true. Signing and paying Jake like a top 6 forward may end up leaving Toffoli on the outside but I am good with that knowing that Hoglander and Podkolzin are coming soon. I think it simply makes far too much sense to sign a young player that is on an upwards trajectory vs. a pending UFA who will likely want top $. What are some decent comparable contracts for bridge/long term? Also I am assuming its two years to UFA? Need some confirmation on this one. @mll If you had to pick two of Boeser, Virtanen, Toffoli, who would you let go? Nod to @stawns for Boeser, I would never look to trade him in a million years. He would get good value in a trade though, something that I doubt is the case with Virtanen.

Is that what the far left stands for? Does that mean this is your admission that you are on the far-right? All it took was 4 years of Trudeau, you lost your patriotism (wexit) and joined the far-right. Its hilarious how a soy boy has you ditching everything you once stood for and joining the extremists. I don't think I would ever go this far off the edge under a conservative PM. In that sense I pity you.

I wasn't sure it was a serious question. I thought the conversation would only devolve into a pissing contest so I decided to bow out. To answer your question I don't believe average civilians should own guns of the type that have commonly been used in mass shootings. Any gun that can potentially be fired into a crowd of people and kill dozens of people. I couldn't care less what term you want to call these guns, if they have the capability of doing what I am talking about, imho they need to go. This isn't about "punishing law abiding citizens" like some have put it, we regularly ban stuff that poses a health/safety risk to the public. The guns that I am talking do just that in the hands of mentally unstable people. The nature of mental health cannot be predicted making just about anybody a risk. Restricting your freedom is no different than restricting mine or any other citizen of this country. Its not targeting you, its targeting everyone. No one should own such guns and seeing as you have yet to provide a practical reason why you "need" to own these guns. I can only deem into a "want" and a sign of entitlement. I don't see the point of furthering this discussion because I doubt you are willing to give even an inch making this a pointless endeavor. Carry on.

Too many mentally/emotionally unstable people getting riled up by rhetoric and turning into ideologues. Its not a matter of if but when one of these ideologues snaps and tries to murder innocent defenseless people in a public location, most probably a church/synagogue/temple/mosque. Then there are the sleepers who stay repressed for years and years and then suddenly unleash hell upon people. I have been looking up the victims of the Nova Scotia shooting, its just a sad situation and I want to in the future reduce such events. I suppose my thoughts are more focused towards those who have been devastated by this tragedy rather than those who are clutching their pearls at the thought of their toys being taken away. To address other arguments made in this thread... Crime is directly correlated to socioeconomic status. If we were all well off crime would fall drastically but it would never be completely eliminated because human greed will always persist. I agree that illegal guns are a significant problem and more resources should be expended to tackle this issue. I am no expert so I will defer as far as the specifics but I am fine with prosecuting those who break the law as well as harsher sentences if they prove to be an effective deterrent. I do not believe that all guns should be taken away, in fact I would vehemently oppose any such measure taken. I realize that there are people living in different circumstances in this country who do require them for the purposes of hunting or self-defence. I also do not believe that we can stop all gun related deaths. Someone who wants to kills their spouse/partner will do so regardless of whether they have a gun, hammer, car, or knife the result would be the same. The same goes for suicides. The point is to stop giving Joe average the capability to enter a confined space and slaughter people indiscriminately with guns that have little to no practical use other than to mow down people. I don't believe that I am entitled to a hobby that endangers the lives of my fellow citizens, you clearly do. I believe that's what it all comes down to... the petty entitlement of egoistic people.
-
Any gun which has the capability of mowing down people in large numbers needs to go. I don't care what "term" you want to use. Its impossible to predict the nature of mental health, hence making anyone who has these types of a guns a potential risk. Freedom is not worth the massacre that occurred in Nova Scotia. I genuinely feel for you as a law abiding gun owner but I don't believe your hobby is worth the lives of Canadians. I agree with you that we need to target illegal guns. I might be even amenable to some draconian punishment taken against those who traffic guns illegally into this country or those who are found in possession of illegal guns. Take them all out.
