  1. The Jets are and will always remain a joke. I am not even anti-Rodgers as a lot of folks seem to be but trading that for a soon to be 40 year old QB is lunacy.
  2. There are lots of people in a hockey organization that we haven't heard of or aren't "really important". This includes equipment managers, scouts, assistants, security personnel, custodians, etc. You don't have to be family to any of these people to feel like they should be treated well by the organization. When the Sabres let go of their entire scouting staff during COVID or when the Bruins had to shamed into taking care of their employees, that reflects negatively on the organization. I don't personally know either Doerrie or Castonguay personally so I am not going to speculate about the credibility of the allegation. The alleged behaviour and actions seem quite unprofessional and I am not someone who dismisses allegations just because of fandom.
  3. I agree about Schenn, I am not sold on Bear however. If I had the option I would take Tanev back.
  4. I agree, change is necessary but I am not sure the Raps can get anything back for Fred. He will likely opt out, they might be able to get something back for his bird rights but nothing too significant unfortunately. Pascal should fetch a pretty nice package.
  5. It is the job of the coaching staff to build accountability. I think you are way overestimating the duty of a captain. The Isles became a much better team under Barry Trotz because he brought structure to their game rather than Doug Weight's coaching style of run and gun. It had little to do with who the captain was. If the Canucks succeed next season it will have more to do with Tocchet's coaching than it will Bo no longer being the captain.
  6. I personally don't see the similarities. The 2021-2022 Avs team were an absolute juggernaut, I don't see how the Canucks can replicate something like that. It takes years of great management in order to build up enough depth to construct that kind of roster. I don't believe it is out of question for the Canucks to build a contender but it is going to take a few more years of building for us to get there. I don't think we are particularly close yet.
  7. Twitter is a place where you get more engagement posting reductive/extremist/reactionary content than if you were to post intelligent/rational commentary. No matter how many times they increase the character limit it is still the dumbest tweets that get the most likes/retweets. The only way it will disappear is if humanity as collective became a whole lot smarter. And imho since the advent of social media, it seems to me that we are headed in the other direction, that doesn't seem like very likely at all. My prediction is that Twitter will outlive us all and will progressively get worse and worse with the passage of time.
  8. You are right I remember that people were fed up with Tanev being injury prone. They thought he could he easily replaced with a more durable player. To be fair so did management, they didn't quite value him enough which is why they prioritized OEL and then pivoted to Schmidt when Tanev signed with Calgary. It was only when he was gone that the realization sunk in that Schmidt wasn't a direct replacement for all that Tanev brought to the table. I always vehemently disagreed with that perspective, its not easy to find a RHD with the same skillset as Tanev. Also funnily enough Tanev has been quite durable in recent years, and even at his age he would still be a top 4 defenseman on this team. That's where I disagree with you, even after adding Hronek we still aren't strong enough at RHD to turn down a player like Tanev. Also I still think he still has a few good years left in him, his game isn't predicated on any physical tools, as long as he doesn't suffer any serious debilitating injuries he will keep chugging on for a few years more. You cannot teach his defensive instincts or his experience. If Ron Hainsey can stick around till he is nearly 40 years old I don't see why Tanev doesn't.
  9. nhl.com sucks, the league hasn't invested squat into their online platforms. The website hasn't been updated in years which is why when you go on it you feel like you are running dial-up internet. They also don't update the player's positions which is where you might get misled into believing that Huberdeau is a Center when has been playing LW his whole career. Point being don't trust anything that you read on there, unless you can find a more reliable source that can corroborate.
  10. I want them to just scrap the lottery and just use the standings with a snake order draft. If a team wants to tank they can, but the benefits it provides only apply to every other round.
  11. I disagree with a lot of takes on here about Horvat and his value as a hockey player but I am not feeling nearly as a forgiving as some posters here. He deserves some of the crap thrown his way for his comments, which imo were uncalled for. Hope the Isles miss the playoffs, and my new team to root for is the Panthers. And just like that Montour ties up the game 1-1 Florida.
  12. The only thing I attributed to you is what I put in quotes. The rest are my thoughts on Benning's tenure. You are indeed correct in that assessment. It seems like your "respect" is quite easily earned. Enjoy the game.
  13. I supported Benning for as long as I did because I was emotionally invested in seeing this organization succeed. I think a lot of us share that sentiment. Where I disagree with you is when you state that you will "respect" a move as long as "the goal is winning". Imho the only moves that fans should respect are ones that bring success to an organization. There is nothing to respect about the OEL or Eriksson moves. There is nothing to respect about whiffing on a 5th and 6th overall pick in consecutive drafts. Just like there is nothing to respect about trading quality assets to make immediate gains in the short term. Benning was notorious for this, I will support this management until they begin to go the same way as Benning. I will admit that I wasn't a fan of the Hronek trade, it seems from my vantage point that we were desperate to improve the RHD position and we made a move from a position of weakness. I will still wish for the best and hope that he proves me dead wrong, I think that is my responsibility as a fan. But if this turns out wrong and this management consistently makes moves that end up poorly like Benning's did then I will cheer for them to get the boot. Losing moves don't deserve our support and the fact that we tolerated and supported them is the only reason why that management group stuck around to do as much damage as they did.

  15. The idea that players want to desperately play for their hometown team is a fantasy that fans convince themselves of. Players place the financial aspect first with a secondary consideration being opportunity, the right fit and playing for a successful team. Players are also less likely to leave when they have settled down and gotten used a team/city. The last time we had a top player who wanted to come home was Hamhuis and that was when we are on the ascendancy, we need to get back to that if we want to be an attractive recruiting destination. Also playing in a Canadian market is also hard enough with the fishbowl effect of the media and fans with an unsuccessful team. In any case we can dream of one day getting Bedard to play here but players of that magnitude always end up signing for max dollars at the maximum number of years in the market that drafted them. The problem is that other teams can offer those same millions and you can get by without being harangued by the fans or media kind of like Miller was this year.
  16. Can't believe I totally forgot about the game today, and I see I missed McDonough's debut as well. Can someone provide a scouting report?
  17. You are indeed correct that there is a double standard at play here. We have been all too willing to give the good ol' USA a pass for the atrocities that they have committed while holding other authoritarian states feet to the fire. I did lol over the "hysterical russophobia" line, always good for a laugh with the Russophiles show up intent on making Russia out to be the victim.
  18. Sounds like you are still in your feelings. Quit your crying and get over it. He was still our captain and was a homegrown player that was in the organization for 10 years. You don't have to appreciate him but at least don't use figments of your imagination to attack his character. Words don't make you sound smart. But I will dumb down my responses so that you don't have to google any words that you may not have heard of. Did I wish that Horvat had a bit more edge? Of course. Calling him "spineless" is just plain hyperbole.
  19. So lets see, inability to form a cogent argument, a lack of reading comprehension and now we can add a poor grasp of the English language to the list. I am not backpedaling at all. I specifically stated that when 'fans proclaim their love it is just superficial as they will turn their backs on you the moment you make a choice that they don't approve of.' Do I now have to walk you through the difference between first and third person? I was referring to fans who are over-the-top in their praise of players they cheer for and then quick to tear them down when they leave town. There have been instances of fans burning jerseys once the player was gone. Your posts in this thread remind me of that, you have accused Horvat of not trying very hard until this year just because he had a career year this year and of course the utter ridiculousness of calling him a "spineless captain" just because he didn't lead the team in hits or didn't cheap shot players or fight as much as you wanted him to. A standard that you do not hold our former captains in Henrik or Naslund to which is logically inconsistent. Just because a player is from North America and has size doesn't mean that he has anymore responsibility than a player that doesn't fit that mold. If you cannot comprehend that then you are either in denial or deliberately being obtuse. You trying to defend your logically inconsistent statements in this thread:
  20. So plainly you lack reading comprehension as well as the ability to form logical arguments. Where exactly did I proclaim my love for a player? My first post in this thread was praising the trade and my post in the Horvat signing was expressing relief that we dodged a bullet with the contract.
  21. The fact that you can only post memes and one-liners instead of defending your own takes in this thread speaks volumes. Also you are the one embarrassing yourself with the immaturity that you have displayed in this thread. I understand being annoyed with a player for not doing what is best for the franchise, but you have taken a step too far and made all kinds of accusations that you have no way of defending. Lol please quote the post where I proclaimed my love for any professional athlete, and please stop deflecting. Refute my arguments instead of resorting to personal attacks. I honestly don't know you, so therefore I don't feel any reason to attack you personally but your arguments in this thread are fair game and deserved to mocked because of how ridiculous they are.
  22. Those paper bags are really bugging you eh? Also I don't see why anyone else really needs to engage any further with the ridiculous takes that you have posted in this thread. There is nothing to debate, you have invented some rather dumb rhetoric that Bo wasn't trying very hard until this year when he suddenly decided to have a career year. The fact that you are accusing an elite level athlete of holding something back is just laughable. You have only chosen to post some memes and deflect instead of refuting my arguments. Please do explain what was Bo saving himself for? Why wasn't he trying as hard until this year? And of course Bo not leading the team in hits or not fighting as much as you think he should have makes him a "spineless captain". Yet Henrik or Naslund or in the future Petersson won't be scrutinized to the same extent. I would at least respect the argument if it was logically consistent but it is not. Your refusal to accept this is just plain old denial. Just because Bo is bigger than those guys doesn't make him a enforcer for this team. Its not up to one player to build a culture of toughness, all players have to stand up for themselves and for each other.
  23. Romance novel was @SilentSam's line, lets go for a little more originality here. Again the one frothing at the mouth is you as you come up increasingly stupid takes like Bo wasn't trying hard or my personal favourite, Bo is big and Canadian, therefore he has to hit and fight or he is "spineless". That logic doesn't apply to the Henrik, Naslund or Pettersson, who will be our next captain. You need to get over the hurt feelings, its time to move on.
