  1. This is too obvious of an answer to be true. I believe that the next threat to humanity will come in the form of the ManBearPig. A whole bunch of close minded individuals will laugh, but the ManBearPig is real, and it is coming for us all. No flippant remarks please.
  2. I think people need to let go of the the fact that he was drafted 6th and who was still on the board when he was taken. He is not going to live up to that and you are setting yourself up for disappointment if you have those expectations. Overall his season in the AHL has some positives but is still a bit of a disappointment. I can't remember the last time a top 10 pick averaged less than .30 ppg in the AHL in their D+3 season. I am hoping that had more to do with the lack of skill on the roster and I hope JB takes steps to correct that offseason. They need to look at all alternatives to improve the farm club. I would not be opposed to picking up a few free agents from Europe who had big seasons like Mark Arcobello or Brandon Kozun to provide the team with some high end (AHL) skill. I have always believed that players improve more by playing beside good players. If nothing else it helps your confidence to pot a goal every now and then or even pick up an assist. I am not going to compare my playing days to professional hockey but I personally always gained a bit of confidence after a potting a goal or helping set up a teammate even if the goal was just a tap in or the assist rather unspectacular. So lets give the kid some good linemates, inflating his stats won't make him a better player but I still think it will help his confidence to have his name show up more on the stat sheet. I don't know if he can ever generate offense on his own. The only time he looks really dangerous is when he can get a bit of a step on the defender but even then most of the time the defender can recover sufficiently enough to keep him on the outside. Even if you have a shot like Laine/Ovechkin you aren't going to have much success beating NHL goalies with shots from the outside. Goalies now days are skilled enough to easily parry away shots that they can see. His cycle game is still not quite up to mark, he needs to get much better at board battles if he expects a call up any time soon. If you are having trouble scoring, then you have to muck it up and play a style of game that helps facilitate your linemates. You have to become a beast of a forechecker, he has shown the ability to do that in the past when he used to use his skill and size to get the jump on defenders to make them rush their passes or force a turnover. There is value in a player that can forecheck and dig the puck out to a more skilled linemate. Crosby with Kunitz, Datsyuk with Abdelkader, McDavid with Maroon, Matthews with Hyman. NHL coaches see value in playing a guy that is good at simply working the boards and playing hard to get the puck out to a far more skilled linemate. Gone are the days where there used to be loaded top 6, now days skilled players like to have the puck on their stick more often than not and its often more effective to spread your talent anyway. When Babcock was asked why Hyman continues to play with Matthews, he answered that there was only so much of the puck to go around and Hyman is one of the best players in the NHL at being effective without the puck. That's what I hope Jake can turn into for us, an exceptional forechecker than can help facilitate the next star (Svechnikov? One can dream) that the Canucks draft.
  3. Its like referring to Kesler as a 40 goal scorer because he feasted on a ridiculously good PP unit.
  4. That doesn't make sense. Why would anyone be triggered by that? What made Alex special was that he carved out a great career with heart and sheer determination. Lindholm is by far the more talented player and he has put together that talent at the NHL level. He will have a much better career than Alex.
  5. Agreed Lindholm has also been fantastic defensively and still improving. He will end up with a far better career than Burrows.
  6. In Goldobin's case it would benefit his ability to play 5v5 and allow him to play stronger matchups if he can become become along the boards and increase his intensity when trying to retrieve the puck. Just watching the playoffs you notice the importance of winning puck battles in tightly contested games. I don't think it will hinder his offensive abilities either to improve in those areas. I think its something that all young skilled players have to learn. Nylander spent some time on the 3rd line learning to improve his compete level and two way ability.
  7. He has been the best Leafs player for the past couple of months during a tight playoff race and that includes a 13 game point streak in March. Without his contributions the Leafs don't even sniff the playoffs. Babcock has been praising him recently for his efforts at both ends of the ice and for his compete level which was something he cited earlier in the year as a weakness. I don't really care to discuss Nylander but I find it sad that people are running down a 20 year old rookie who played in his first playoff game yesterday against a stacked Caps team while simultaneously finding every excuse to justify the Virtanen pick.
  8. This was the reason why they passed on Jagr. http://www.foxsports.com/nhl/story/how-jaromir-jagr-may-have-manipulated-the-1990-nhl-draft-in-his-favor-090116
  9. I agree. 2015 draft is looking ridiculously stacked now as well. Just look at some of the picks after 23, just about all of them I would consider to be better prospects than Virtanen.
  10. I was skimming through that thread earlier and one poster was going on about how Virtanen looks depressed and is taking drugs based off of one photo. Now that right there is grade A trolling.
  11. What the hell Crosby. <_<

Did he score? What is this?

      Toews

He had half the net to shoot at but shot it right at the goalie's pad and now the Leafs are in the playoffs.

  12. Bias is not the problem IMO. Its when people try and shut down other people who have a different opinion than them by insults, potshots etc. I up-voted your post about addressing the content of the post and not the poster. It seems to me like we are all adults and are capable of having a civil discussion with multiple different views without someone saying "omg you are an idiot, go cheer for the oilers".
  13. The Knights have a huge fan base and its the playoffs, I expect there will be multiple high quality streams available.
  14. Its actually pretty funny. You have to keep your objectivity in check if you don't want to get flamed. Meanwhile you can say something like "Joe LaBate reminds me of Rick Tocchet" and rake in the up votes.
  15. This is why its hard to take you seriously. You say its too early to draw any conclusions based on Virtanen's play and here you are doing the same with a player who has an even smaller sample size. Juolevi has a long way to go before he can be called the best defenseman in his draft class.
  16. IMO every time you have a high pick you should be aiming to draft a player that is going to be a part of your core. If you get a player like that then you should not concern yourself how the teams around you fared. This is the reason why I don't have a problem with the Juolevi pick. I think he will be our future #2D and regardless how Tkachuk ends up I will consider that a successful pick.
  17. Nylander and Ehlers have consistently shown that they can generate their own offense. Its something that Jake needs to learn how to do or he will only end up as a role player. The other poster is right, it isn't close and its likely never going to be close. That isn't "trash talking", its just facing reality. Do I wish that people wouldn't bring up those names as often as they do? Yes but I think this team needs offensive talent so desperately that people can't help but speculate what it would be like if the organization went in a different direction. Now if only people would stop complaining about what other posters decide to post in this thread.
  18. I am pretty sure he is eligible. Utica is fighting hard for that last playoff spot with 9 games to go so I am not sure Green will be very liberal with ice time. It will be nice to get him in the games in a sheltered role though.
  19. I agree and there really is no excuse for it this time. The Knights are a first class organization for developing players. There is pro level coaching and they have the best facilities. It is looking increasingly likely that Juolevi won't be ready for the NHL next season. If he fails to prove that he is conclusively better than guys like Tryamkin and Hutton then they should send him back for another year of junior. The timeline for defenseman is different than that of a forward.
  20. This is just ridiculous...

  21. I call it living vicariously through a hockey player.
  22. The game clock is broken in the Leafs Bruins game which is pretty much a playoff game.

  23. There are three teams right now competing for two spots in the North Division. Comets, Ice Caps and Marlies all separated by only two points.
  24. Panarin was a good player well before age 24 though. Panarin - Kuznetsov - Tarasenko line was a big reason why the Russians won gold at the 2011 WJ.
