He is going to be a 40-50 goal scorer in the NHL.

This kid is the rel deal..if he has an unreal tourny he could go first..its going to hurt watching him.

  3. Ever since the Canucks complained to Friedman about his "30 thoughts", he seems to have a vendetta against this franchise.

    Get over it Eliotte.

It happened a while back so I don't recall the details anymore. I think it might have been before the deadline. There was a discussion about it on HF but it wasn't really talked about here. Since then Friedman has been negative about the Canucks. I will try and find the details since you are curious.

      @Bigturk8

So apparently Friedman made a comment on TV that every time he mentioned the Canucks his phone blew up. Apparently Trev has made a few (possibly angry) calls.

Since then Friedman has made quite a few snide comments about the management. If you are on HF you go to search type "Friedman" and select the Canucks forum. Then select display search results as "posts" instead of threads. You can then read all about what he has said about the Canucks.

Fair warning though it is HF so you will see quite a bit of Benning and Linden bashing.

      Thanks!

I had no idea about any of this. Seems out of character for Linden..

  4. This is the most indifferent I have felt about the playoffs in a long time. No one to cheer for, no one to really root against.

  5. It makes no sense to me why CBS would cancel a show like Person of Interest. None of their new shows that I have seen like Code Black and Limitless come close.

@ItsMillerTime I like the show as well but IMO POI still outclasses it in terms of quality.

That makes more sense Wash. Such a shame. The first episode of the new season was amazing. I am going to miss the show when it ends.

CBS doesnt like much unless it compares to Two Broke Girls....what a piece of junk this show is..those two girls whole life revolves around them cracking cheesy one liners...never one serious moment.

when did that news go down? i thought season 5 is still happening. hell they have unfinished storyline. shaw was suppose to come back. are you sure its canceled?

  6. Cliffhangers don't work in today's world. People know where the set is, they find out that a character that was supposed to be dead is on the set and its already spoiled. I expect the same thing to happen with Waking Dead's cliffhanger
  7. Leicester City's premier league title is probably the greatest sporting achievement of the 21st century.

The betting companies began settling payouts when it started to look likely that it would happen. There were people with bets of 60£ who cashed in earlier at slightly worse odds.

Definitely a good one, but I have it #2 behind the 2017 Vancouver Canucks and their Stanley Cup run ;)

  8. I will never understand superstition. Maybe I am just not narcissistic enough to believe that my actions, words or thoughts have any effect on the outcome of a random event. There is literally no evidence that whatever one us might be doing has any influence on a completely unrelated outcome.

In any case I have noticed that the "superstition crowd" will criticise you for both positive and negative thoughts. If you claim that a positive outcome will occur then you are "jinxing" your team. If you are predicting a negative outcome your pessimism will cause your team to lose.

I don't think it's narcissistic at all. Some people are just superstitious and they're that way for a variety of reasons. Lots of athletes have superstitions and I believe it's more to do with their own comfort and self-confidence than anything. Playing baseball, I couldn't step in to the box for a pitch without licking my finger tips on my index and middle fingers on my left hand. Felt weird if I didn't.

      Nothin' wrong with superstition.

    3. Toews

      Toews

I didn't mean to be overly critical. I do get that athletes have their rituals and if it gives them comfort and confidence all the more power to them.

I just have a problem when people force their superstitions on others. Like you aren't supposed to mention the word shutout or no-hitter as there is sense you will "jinx" the moment.

I guess I didn't really have a problem with such stuff when I used to actively participate in it but eventually I just lost faith in all this. Now when I am watching a game with friends I am almost tempted to yell shutout just to annoy them lol.

    4. Sean Monahan

      Sean Monahan

I can see how it would seem a little weird from an objective point of view, but those superstitions (like no mentioning a shutout/no-hitter) have become entrenched in the cultures of their respective sports and so those who are fans of the sports tend to get into it as well- especially fans who played the sport. As you mentioned I think a person's belief in those superstitions may fade over time as well, even more so if they're removed from the sport. As a fan I have no problem with mentioning the word shutout (not in a GDT for fear of being roasted though) but if I were a player on the team I definitely wouldn't mention it.

  9. Expansion draft protection list for the Columbus Blue Jackets will include Hartnell, Foligno, Dubinsky and the real kicker David &^@#ing Clarkson.

  10. Is signing Th. Demko a sign were getting Matthews?

  11. Makes sense as they have said that she will have a major role to play this season. I was just watching the gif of Hotah and Doran's death and it's absolutely hilarious. One stab in the back and one of the most hyped characters in the series dies lol. Still glad we are moving on from Dorne hopefully, it was easily one of the most butchered story lines in the show. Yeah the ending is dumb but the entire plot of Dorne last season was stupid anyway. Edit: Also apparently the Dornish have no problems supporting kinslayers and turncloaks.
  12. To those bringing it up (even sarcastically), it's not nearly the same situation with Boeser who still has a few years before he hits FA and is definitely good enough that it would be counterproductive to waste that much time in college. I was wary of Demko signing but it's not even remotely a concern with Boeser.
  13. This is a ridiculous post. WHL Rocks hasn't claimed to have any supernatural powers. He only expressed the opinion that if Demko is to pass on a contract then the option of UFA seems more appealing than signing with the Canucks next year. It's an opinion I share. The greatest advantage the Canucks have is the ability to give him pro experience and possibly burn a year of his ELC. If he passes on that then I would start preparing to lose him as a free agent as I am much less confident that this team can get his signature when the option of waiting it out for a few months and having a pick of destinations is on the table. The discussion is in regards to if he passes on a contract to return to college.
  14. Not sure why you assumed I was saying that but ok.
  15. Your reply has nothing to do with my post so I have no idea why you quoted me in the first place.
  16. How do you know that playing behind Luongo didn't slow down Schneider's ascent? It's possible that he could have become a starter much earlier on a different team. In any case just because a path worked out for Cody doesn't mean it will be the best path for Demko. We have seen young goalies like Mrazek, Vasilevsky, Gibson, and Murray playing for their respective teams at a very young age. Ideally we keep both and run a tandem similar to Anaheim where we eventually trade Markstrom. But it will depend on how much Markstrom will want in his next contract.
  17. Jones had the pedigree. He was a highly touted goalie who was thought off as a future #1. I would comfortably put Jones in the same tier as Varlamov and Schneider in terms of value. What's telling is that the Sharks didn't even protect their 1st when they traded for him. Lehner is the better example if you want to argue that Markstrom fetches a 1st. Buffalo obviously was very high on him. We can hope a team would be similarly high on Markstrom but it seems like a longshot as of now. The value of goalies is very difficult to predict especially considering it varies based on how many teams are looking for goalies. With the expansion draft coming I would think Andersen and one of Murray or Fleury would be available with teams like Carolina, Toronto and Calgary looking for goalies. I would prefer to wait things out with Markstrom. Hopefully he can establish himself as a bonafide starter so we can have a more clearer indication of his value.
  18. Unless goalies prove that they are starter quality they don't fetch a lot in return. Don't want to move Markstrom for that reason. He is worth more than the 3rd round pick he would fetch in a trade.
  19. I see it as people preparing themselves for the worst. I have prepared myself for the possibility that Demko does not sign and the Canucks pick 6th in the draft because 3 teams below them end up winning the lotteries.
  20. I used to quote him as well but that was because I didn't want his uninformed opinions to go unchallenged but it's entirely pointless. You just have to hope that as more people add him to ignore the less quotes we will see.
  21.

After 13 years of being on different forums on the internet, this is the first time I have ever felt the need to use the ignore function.

After 7 years here I can honestly say this is the most annoying troll that CDC has ever had. It's not just trolling but it's the spaming of every single thread on this forum.

Now I just wish people would stop quoting this poster.

  22. I don't think anyone is saying "don't sign him". He is one of the top goaltending prospects in the world, losing him will be extremely painful at least until we see what he ends up being. The discussion was just about assessing his value to the organization. I will be honest if I had a choice of losing one of Virtanen, Horvat, McCann, Boeser, Demko or Hutton, I choose Demko. I am more confident that the others are better bets to be NHLers.
  23. I agree with this. It would suck to lose Demko but there is a very real chance that all he ends up being is a backup goalie.
  24. The Canucks should just put up life size caricatures of Benning and Linden and have Gstank and Hutton's Wink do the talking.
