Somewhere Thomas Drance is doing a jig -
I could see them wanting to wait until after the draft and free agency to see where they could add a few upgrades before signing these depth guys. Let them hit UFA. Bear, they likely won’t qualify but will ultimately come to terms on a cheap one year contract, and allow for him to rehab with the club. maybe Juulsen gets extended, but I’d hope he’s not part of the top 6 plans… just as a depth guy and solid ahl veteran. I know he looked decent in garbage games against poor teams with Quinn, I’m just hesitant to say he’d be effective at full time deployment. If his physical/defensive play and pk ability were enough to keep him in the league full time, he’d have done it by now imo.

(SPECULATION) Nux interested in UFA D Matt Dumba
70seven replied to RWJC's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I don’t mind a dumba add tbh. I think he might be okay with a one year deal to improve his FA value (especially in a role with Quinn Hughes) and earn a better contract. Second reason I far prefer him over the other options… he has decent hands. I feel like Quinn always gets partners who have hands of stone… which means plays die on their sticks when he goes d-d in the offensive zone…. If Quinn can make Schenn a point getter, Dumba should really improve his stock after one season of playing that role. He can still play physically, kill penalties, and at one year, has upside to be a very nice signing… if he’s not a fit, he’ll be TDL bait… if no value, cut him lose after the season. I’m don’t really see a downside here. soucy on the other hand… ewww. Not a top 4 player and will cost term. -
[Rumour] Canucks interested in Carson Soucy

Third pair D. No thanks. Bad UFA investment regardless of role filled. He’ll be forced to play heavy minutes and that’ll expose his deficiencies. Save the cap for a real two way minute muncher. Even if you have to wait a year or two… Or stay in purgatory I guess -
2023-2024 Defence. Was the Hronek Trade enough?
70seven replied to Phat Fingers's topic in Canucks Talk
Pacific gonna be real tough this season. Not sure I like the Canucks chances regardless of who they add. No way this defence will hold. Injuries will come as they always do and there is zero depth to account for that eventuality. Gonna get lit up again, sewering demkos trade value…. (Trade him now!) The team is simply not strong enough to insulate the goaltenders alla Anaheim, Philly, Arizona, etc. They’re likely going to further handcuff themselves with overpaying depth players, forcing them into heavy minutes which will expose their deficiencies… and Stay away from Soucy please! He’s a third pair guy. Don’t pay or give term to third pair guys ffs! Just like you shouldn’t pay 3rd line wingers or 4th line energy players. Draft and save your cap for your top 3 Cs and top 4 Ds… then add around them with efficient short term contracts and elcs… mayyybe add term for 1 or 2 impact/elite top 6 wingers that pair well with your C core… I know it’s easier said than done… but holy smokes it’s management group after management group repeating the same mistakes!? Just not enough depth at any position except overpayed skilled wingers that are defensively incompetent. Boeser, Garland, Kuzmenko, Beauvillier… like common… just over 22 million committed to inconsistent Smurf one dimensional wingers!!!. What a joke of a franchise. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll support the team until the day I die… but man its frustrating to be a Canucks fan right now. 2011 build had Hank Kesler Hamhuis Edler Bieksa Salo Ehrhoff Ballard Luongo as the invested core. Only winger making over 3M was Danny Sedin… a hall of fame player. Samuelsson, Raymond, Burrows, Torres, Higgins all efficient deals, all played roles, all brought different elements and had diverse skill sets. All of which had max term of 4 years. That build brought this franchise a lot of success. We are so so soooo far off of this template. -

Would be a nice player to anchor the third pair, PK…. But no thanx to top 4 deployment. -
CBJ… idk what to expect. But I do think they’ll be much better just by getting their LTIR players back. Werenski was a massive kick in the nuts for them last season. Texier is by all accounts finally healthy. Can Carlsson be ready for top 6 duty? How bout breakouts from any of Johnson, Sillinger, Marchenko, Culemans, Jiricek, Foudy, or Mateychyuk? This team ain’t far from being really strong imo.

Haven’t seen anything fwiw. -
OEL is still too big of investment to walk on. No doubt he’s been given orders by tocchet to work and come to camp early and ready to reclaim serviceable and reliable form. Might be his last chance before getting waived… but I think he gets that chance before buyout. Far more likely Myers and one or both of Boeser/Garland will be dealt for peanuts.
