  1. And was Neal signed to play the bottom-six? No. As for this "eye-test"on Nordstrom, its been corroborated by other users on this forum in this thread. When everybody says he's a good bottom six player, believe them.
  2. Surplus to requirements, unfortunately.
  3. Minnesota nukes: Jordan Elser Daniel Mcintyre Mitchell Keller Kyle DeBlouw Vladimir Ryn'Gach Brian Stanese -- After hearing news that Vladimir Geraev couldn't transfer to North America in time, we will send him down to the AHL on our sheet. -- Minnesota recalls Zachary Galambos, Jake Vendramin Minnesota sends down Gabriel Dollery
  4. Perhaps you should consult some old news and realize that Lucic was signed by Peter Chiarelli, not Brad Treliving. As for what makes Nordstrom "elite" - I watch hockey.
  5. A lot of you are really missing the point. If you think players like Derek Ryan, Milan Lucic, Tyler Johnson were "bottom-six" players when they signed their deals, then I'm not sure what to tell you. Deployment in the bottom six =/= pure bottom six players
  6. In any given year, teams are always going to be finishing in the bottom five/bottom ten/undesirable spots. Of course it will be harder to sign free-agents, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to sign your targets, but the GM needs to be sensible about how much money and term they're planning to commit. That's all that most people are trying to say. There's a lot of evidence from other teams over the years, in places all of the standings, that you're able to sign good bottom-six players without overcommitting or overpaying.
  7. Except the point is that you don't need to commit multi-year deals with big money attached for bottom-six players. Yeah, these guys making 700K would have probably made a bit more money in normal circumstances, but no way were they ever going to get these outrageous 4x3M type of deals like the ones we have felt fit to hand out in years past.
  8. What does a pandemic have anything to do with it? They were overpaid in 2018 when they were originally signed.
  9. Jealous of Calgary? I think yes. You hate to see it.
  10. Jake has had 3 and half seasons to get 20 goals. He scored 3 goals in his last 18 prior to COVID shutting things down. But yeah, he was gonna hit 20 Nobody said he was trash, btw. The point being made is that Dallas got a better player signed to the exact same terms as we did with Virtanen.
  11. The famous Nordstrom thread? Yeah, I saw that "conversation" lol. Unfortunately, a lot of people seem to think that the standard or barometer for how other teams do their business is based on how the Canucks do things
  12. He'll be fortunate to hit 25 in these next two years after the inflated scoring clip he had during the season. It's make or break for him. The top 6 is open, he has all the opportunity now.
  13. It's a recent article but it's from before the 'playoffs' started. Last I checked, Jake Virtanen wasn't exactly a Selke candidate either.
  14. An actual 20 goal-scorer who, I should add, basically dragged his team into the Stanley Cup final, got the same exact contract as Jake Virtanen? I prefer not to speak. If I speak, I am in big trouble..
  15. "Added enough playoff games to make it a full 82 games" He exceeded 82 games WITH playoffs.
  16. I think Demko will do well but the biggest thing is that more teams will start developing a playbook on him. Much like Jordan Binnington looked like the real deal en route to dragging St. Louis into the playoffs and winning them the cup, once teams started paying more attention to him, he didn't look all that impressive. It's easy for Demko to look great now when he plays once every two weeks on a B2B but with him getting 60-70% of the starts, more teams will learn him. Everything else here is opinion. FWIW, I take our forward core over Calgary's too but at the moment, their squad is a bit better than ours based on the moves made this off-season.
  17. Another 20 pt forward for league minimum? But I was told these types of signings are impossible to make? Makes you wonder...
  18. I would imagine we'll be doing everything we can to place Ferland on LTIR before exhausting buy-outs on Sutter or Baertschi to get cap compliant.
  19. A bit too rich for my liking. Shouldn't have gotten a penny more than what Mangiapane got, IMO. Meh, not the worst deal though.
  20. Markstrom > Holtby Schmidt > Tanev but Tanev + Stetcher > Schmidt. If we don't sign/trade for somebody else, we're going to be asking rookies from the AHL to step up and be as key as Stetcher was. That will leave ???s Toffoli has yet to be replaced. Hawryluk is nice but he'll be competing with MacEwan for a 4RW spot. For the Flames: Markstrom >>>> Talbot Brodie and Hamonic > Tanev but getting Valimaki back will help immensely. Hamonic didn't even play during the playoffs. Nordstrom a very nice addition to their bottom-six. On paper, the Flames look better than the Canucks. That doesn't mean things can't change but it's a fair statement to make.
  21. Our general manager felt fit to throw that in too, as if the egregious money and term wasn't already enough.
  22. They can sign two league minimum guys and spend only 1.4M of the 3M+ remaining. They'll be fine.
