  1. Certain sects of Canucks fans only dunked on Gillis because it was one of the few ways they could defend Benning. EVERYBODY dunked on Benning because he was not particularly skilled at his job. That's the difference Trust me. This board, Twitter, HF, and any space to do with the Canucks all loved Gillis during his tenure. Things only shifted against him after Schneider was traded. By his final season, he had his fair share of criticizers but they were warranted at that point. After Gillis got fired, he was left in the past...until about about a month in Benning's tenure when Canucks fans (and most of the hockey world) realized he wasn't good. For a few years, I was late to join in on that side and argued Benning needed some time, but I was pretty wrong on that front. I'm not sure why you're saying this about me considering, as usual, it's you and your pals that bring up Gillis whenever criticisms of Benning come up. Can't stand to see Jim get dunked on, huh? You lot do whatever it takes to get the attention off of Jim and onto somebody else.
  2. Funny how you're playing the "we're all supposed to be Canucks" card now that time has finally ran its course and demonstrated you were on the wrong side of history. It sure didn't seem like "we are all Canucks" when I had legions of Benning supporters berating me, yelling at me to stop criticizing him, doing everything possible to invalidate my opinion for 3+ years. Definitely didn't seem like it when I had people telling me to support different teams, calling me all sorts of names, and in one instance, even uttering a threat towards me. And that's just my experience. I'm sure many others who criticized management on here could share similar stories in how they were ganged up and actually antagonized on by Benning supporters. But..but..we're all Canucks, am I right? At the end of the day, comments like mine are innocuous and they're not specifically calling anybody out. At worst, it's an unnecessary form of humble-bragging. If you really wanted to take the high road, you would have avoided the cheap shot comments and focus on the news in this thread. Instead, you've been showing bitterness towards her because of light-hearted comments made on Twitter and engaging in not-so-subtle misogyny in the process.
  3. No, Benning tried to compete for playoffs straight away and failed miserably. Whether that was his choice, or a mandate from ownership, he didn't do a great job. His blunders started from his first entry draft and continued right until the day he was sacked. Horrible throughout with very little bright spots to show for. As for Gillis not getting another job, we can reasonably believe that's been by choice. It's been well documented that he wants a greater role within organizations if he returns to the NHL, and every so often, we see him in the frame for those positions. It has very little to do with a lack of qualifications. Funny enough, Benning is a great example that no amount of qualifications or extensive experience makes one competent for the job. I'm more than happy to leave Gillis in the past, but I won't sit aside watching people defend Benning by trying to compare him to Gillis. Gillis was a far better GM than Benning was here, even if both aren't particular great GMs. Those are the facts.
  4. "Behaviour". You guys are making it seem like she was going on Twitter and spreading hateful rhetoric, spouting bigoted comments at people, bullying fans, etc She dunked on a GM in a comedic way and share some stories she had heard about this team. That's literally it. There is no behaviour to clean up.
  5. Here's the truth. Gillis had an elite tenure. Got things done, won many things, nearly won it all in fact, but eventually his shortcomings caught up to him and he was rightfully sacked. Benning was good on the day of his opening press conference and that's it. Huge downhill spiral into Buffalo and Arizona territory under his leadership. Lost everything, became the laughing stock of the NHL, has sent fans into depression, made the Whitecaps become the best team in Vancouver. The damage he caused will take YEARS to repair. Benning and Wiesbrod were worse than Keenan and Messier.
  6. You keep saying things like "damage" like as if the NHL is a sport that solely revolves around drafting and developing. We judge performance primarily on what happens on the ice and it just so happened that he has been the best, to date, at putting out a winning team. Evidently, he wasn't good enough at drafting but it was only when his bad drafting caught up to him and his team's performance on the ice did he get fired. It's well documented in hockey spaces that Rutherford's winning teams in Pittsburgh had great internal communication and collaboration, and this includes feedback from the analytics team. Saying that you don't want the analytics team to make decisions would be a great way to go back to how things were done under Benning and, as history will kindly point out, those things were bad.
  7. Crazy that, then. History books show "unqualified" Gillis did more in his tenure than "qualified" Nonis, Burke, and Benning did in theirs. But, in any event, you're in luck because Doerrie is quite qualified to work in hockey ops. As it was pointed out numerous times, she's worked with an upwards of four teams, one being an NHL team, in addition to bringing in higher academic knowledge in data science.
  8. Careful now, he might have Benning and Weisbrod discourse banned from this forum, just as he did with the Loui, confused, and paper bag emojis.
  9. And yet, we have teams like Tampa, Colorado, Carolina, and Florida - all heavy analytics teams - making the league bow to their feet. Makes you wonder...
  10. You should direct this towards the cellar dwellers in this thread who can't help but show their misogyny and bitterness because somebody who bodied their favourite GM on Twitter has now taken a job in an office that used to be his. Seriously, look at some of these takes: "she just shut her mouth", "i don't want analytics dweebs making decisions", etc. Instead of celebrating a progressive hire, they're doubling down on their support for an old GM and showing their ass in the process. Those people need to grow up.
  11. It's common practice to delete tweets - positive or negative - before joining a team in professional sports. In other words, even if she thought Benning was a superstar, that would have been deleted. No agenda. Hope this helps.
  12. Ehh, it's just fun calling out the people who were clearly upset by her criticisms of management a while back.
  13. You'll be working for us soon Promise to remember me when you make it?
  14. You're a grown adult getting offended that a GM was fired and one of his critics has now taken his spot in the front office. Kick rocks with the rest of your brigade, please.
  15. Well, that's better than the levels we hit under Benning: more losses than the population of BC, no development, no asset management, and a whole bunch of work for the next regime to do to get us out of this mess.
  16. Da mean lady on twidder insulted my old gm We seriously gonna do this or can we just be happy and hopeful for our team that we have gone out and hired somebody with extensive experience at a young age and a good mind to help restore us back to respectability. The world knows we've spent too much time in the basement with Buffalo and Arizona, it would be nice to hit the Gillis levels again.
  17. Sucks to be on the wrong side of history like you were. Fortunately, I can't relate. Hope this helps.
