  1. We better take a forward at least. If Gillis ends up taking Fleury, Honka or McKeown with our 1st over someone like Perlini, Virtanen, Kapanen, McCann I'm gonna freak.
  2. What's people's take on Nikolaj Ehlers here? He's a smaller forward at 5'11'', 165lbs, but plays with an edge. He played in a mens league before coming to the QMJHL and has dominated this season with the Mooseheads. He apparently plays on his off-wing and has a crazy wrist shot. In 63 games played, he finished this season with 49g, 55a, 104pts and a +65 rating with Halifax. If he was still available when the Canucks were picking would you want Gillis to take a shot at him? Or is the general consensus here to take a larger forward to match up to the top Pacific Division teams?
  3. Let me guess. You pulled this trade off in NHL 14 and figured you would post it here?
  4. Gillis is clearly keen on a quick "re-tool" as opposed to a full on rebuild.
  5. I doubt Gillis deals Kesler to a divisional rival even if it's for a top 10 pick. It's definitely a possibility to keep our eyes on though.
  6. Just a 1st round note, you'll have to wait until the draft obviously but the Islanders may end up choosing this year to give their 1st to Buffalo from the Vanek deal. I highly doubt they'll defer the pick to next year with McDavid and Eichel being eligible. Buffalo may end up drafting twice in the top 5 this year...
  7. ISS top 30 rankings for March got released: http://www.isshockey.com/iss-top-30-released-march/ As it stands right now, we're drafting 11th overall. That can and probably will change, but if we're outside of the top 10 I highly doubt Perlini or Virtanen will fall to us. Both players are presumably on Gillis and the scouting teams radar, but they need to be prepared to take someone like Nick Ritchie, Josh Ho-Sang, Alex Tuch or Nikolaj Ehlers inside that 11-14 range.
  8. I'd honestly be surprised if Virtanen was still available at 13. As of right now, we pick 12th so who knows.
  9. I'd honestly rather miss the playoffs this year and get a better draft pick. The Canucks aren't prepared for a lengthy playoff run anyway.
  10. I still say Jake Virtanen, but if we're able to draft 1st overall I'd take Ekblad. We need someone that can grow into an insane defenseman like Doughty or Pietrangelo.
  11. Canucks possibly winning the lottery would be a huge positive boost for this franchise, but the chances are so-so.
  12. Virtanen is 6'1''....that isn't small. I mean if we can draft Perlini I'd go with that but I don't think we'll get to draft early enough to snag him.
  13. Cookie cutter words from Gillis. I guess what else are you supposed to say really.
  14. Jake Virtanen *clap clap clapclapclap* Jake Virtanen *clap clap clapclapclap*
  15. I said it once in this thread and I'll say it again.. Do whatever it takes to get Virtanen.
  16. Man....I never thought I would find myself saying this but it would totally suck if we started playing well and made the playoffs, only to get eliminated in the first round.
  17. How does it work again? Can't a team only move up a certain number of spots in the lottery? There's no way we draft early enough to take him before the Oilers do.
  18. The Canucks need to do whatever it takes to draft Jake Virtanen. He's a local boy with size and skill and would play with passion on this team. The last thing we need is another smallish European forward. I don't want Anton Rodin version 2.0. Ehlers himself said his biggest challenge is going to be adjusting to the small ice surface. I don't know about you guys but the sound of Horvat - Virtanen is a lot more intruiging to me than Horvat - Ehlers.
  19. Yeah agreed. I'm actually really tired of people thinking "BURE FOR GM" or "LINDEN FOR GM" are good ideas.
  20. Its fun to speculate and all, but I don't ever recall hearing anything about Linden even wanting a position as a General Manager in the NHL. He's got a lot on his plate already I'm sure with Club 16 Fitness and the countless other ventures around BC. I'd honestly think we'd see Brian Burke here again before Linden ever became a GM, let alone in Vancouver.
  21. Just because you undervalue Luongo doesn't make this a "GREAT TRADE". Gillis got fleeced on Schneider and he got fleeced again with Luongo. Not to say Matthias and Markstrom can't become better than they are now, but as all players involved in this trade stand now, we didn't get nearly enough back as most people thought we would.
  22. Not to discredit Lack or Markstrom, but with two young goalies this organization is in for some dark times. I hope this city is ready for a rebuild.

  24. Yesterday on TSN Jason Botchford said that Lindy Ruff and Dave Tippett would be "terrible" candidates for coach of the Canucks. He believes that a more "cerebral" and "smart" coach is what the Canucks need most to change the culture in the dressing room. Meanwhile, Neil Smith and the panel said that a veteran voice like Tippett's or Ruff's would be best to lead a veteran core like what the Canucks have...so who knows.
