  1. Ahh yes, good ol Gaunce He'd probably be a legit bottom six guy at the NHL level if he were a faster player Good journeyman career though, he's played games for Columbus this season
  2. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't pointing at you. I've just seen it repeatedly around here over the years. There's nothing wrong with being a career AHL'er or going to play somewhere in Europe but some folks will poke fun at players for not being able to hack it in what's the best league in the world. Lot of players can't, that's why it's the best league.
  3. Playing hockey for a living, dude with what should be a good amount of money living in a beautiful country like Switzerland full of beautiful Swiss food and women.. He could be doing worse. Some folks like to poke fun at guys for going to play in lesser leagues but man, what a way to make a living. Good money by most people's standards too.
  4. I'm not keen on Kotkaniemi but I think I could accept him coming back as part of a Carolina package, it makes a lot of sense. He could still be more. I'd take a deal within these perimeters though, it'd def bump Carolina up the list as far as contenders go over the next 3-4 years.
  5. It's funny in retrospect but it's also something that used to come up in conversation around here
  6. Was reading about this the other yesterday, it's ugly. People are also pointing to how quickly this has all been processed and all of the officers being black. The officers should absolutely have the book thrown at them but there's questions as to why this has been such a quick process and as to whether it'd be taking place as quickly if the officers weren't all POC. Lot of POC already don't trust the police or the systems down there, this isn't going to help with that.
  7. I think it's more likely than management being stubborn is what'd get in the way of a Miller trade I still think a deal built around him and Bailey (NYI) could be had, they were rumoured to be interested at one point and Bailey's underwhelmed this season They're a team who could use some offensive pop up front and they'd be able to better insulate him defensively imo
  8. Maybe a 3rd I don't see Carolina as an organization anyone's gonna rob
  9. I was looking him up, he's actually been producing at a pretty good clip in the KHL the last few years Good for him
  10. Can't wait til we play Schroeder, Hodgson, and Jensen on the same line, it'll be our new WCE.
  11. Okay, but we have to throw in a 2nd with Miller because it's a Jim thing
  12. Who's your favourite Seattle player Heff

I'm fairly certain Sabersfan was a girl.

  13. Still more reliable than Edklund In Cheestits we trust
  14. I hope he recovers quick, Seattle's fun to watch this season and he's a big part of why
  15. Good question I think a lot of Canucks fans are just that, Canucks fans Some Canucks fans are also hockey fans who track the league and watch other games, there's a difference
  16. I'd certainly improve on their offense, which is what I'd consider to be that team's weakness. I do think Staal would cost a bit more though, maybe Raanta too. But I do see them as a potential landing spot for either player, moving them both would be great.
  17. Yeah, the contending in two years was always a bunch of crock. I'm not sure what that initial evaluation process was all about because he certainly misjudged where this roster and team was at. I do think it'll be more of a gradual process, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. We'll have to wait out some contracts, either retain cap on contracts to make deals or take cap back, possibly buy out players and eat some dead cap for a time. Our prospect pool is currently towards the bottom half of the league, probably the bottom third. We'll see how the draft improves on that. We don't have anyone currently in the system who looks like they'll jump in and be an impact player sooner than later so I have questions about the next wave. This isn't to say we don't have any good prospects though but our more blue chip guys are all wingers. I hope they don't try and take shortcuts the way Benning did, trading picks out for players who are supposedly ahead in development. I'd rather we just use our picks. I'm hoping we don't pay to dump any more contracts either, moving out picks hurts. We can't assume everything will work out perfectly either, there will be more misses.
  18. Don't know where you're getting 5+ years from. It also depends on what you're looking at in a rebuild, I don't think scorched earth is necessary. I don't view shipping both Miller and Horvat out as scorched earth. Scorched earth would be moving out everyone including Pettersson and Hughes. Being open to moving the latter two players doesn't equate to advocating for a scorched earth rebuild. I've been pretty consistent in my stance that Pettersson and Hughes are worth building around and that we should have started moving out veteran pieces like Miller last season to start doing so. Bottom line is regardless of what management tries it may not line up with Hughes regardless. Management will give building their best shot but there are no guarantees. I could see him leaving Vancouver at some point regardless of how things go so long as Jersey remains a strong team. I'm open up to shipping out anyone and everyone for the right deal, nobody is untradeable. Some players are just less likely to be traded. I disagree, I think it can be both. I think you absolutely can bottom out, I would not be shocked to see us pick top 12 again next season. Overhauling those roster was never going to be a short term process imo, we absolutely could sit near the bottom organically. I don't believe addressing our defense is going to be a short term process. As of right now I reckon we're a fringe playoff team next season at best. I said last summer I reckon we're at least four years out from contention, at LEAST. We haven't been a regular playoff team since the early 2010's, nobody's going to be selling me on a fairy tale regarding contention any time soon. Let's try and get to a place where we're in the playoff mix consistently first.
  19. We're an easy target because we've been mediocre at best for the most of the past decade
  20. No, not without Bedard. And even then, until they gradually turn over and address our defense and bottom six we probably wouldn't be a surefire playoff team even if we had him. Depends on a lot of things like how Demko bounces back, what our special teams look like, what other teams do. But no, after the past decade of continually failing at retooling I highly doubt this super management group is going to have us contending in two seasons. We also don't have much beyond wing prospects in the cupboards and our prospect pool is definitely more on the shallow end. We're also capped out and will likely have to eat dead cap via buyouts, take cap back in deals, or retain cap to make deals. We'll also likely be down our 2C sooner than later and I don't really view Miller as a center so much as a winger who can take draws. Wouldn't be surprised if we were drafting top 12 again next season. JR and Allvin can blow all the smoke they like but I think it'll be a while before we're a consistent playoff team again. Not even going to start talking about contention, that's a long ways off.
  21. Do need them winning too, better them in no man's land than catching us
