I could see us beating Chicago, Columbus, and then maybe Detroit one of the two and Philly I wouldn't count on much more than that though

Hansen said it best the other day, we probably don't have the players for an effective PK

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

This only works if Bo actually wants to stay, of which I'm highly skeptical -
[Proposal] Horvat to VGK as a rental
Coconuts replied to Ted Lasso's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Vegas is an odd team in that they haven't been shy about swinging for the fences by making big moves, particularly out the gate as an expansion team. But at the same time they're a team that's given up an awful lot in the way of assets over the last few seasons. For a rental that's not bad though, but I can't help but wonder if Vegas might finally be a bit gun shy about moving out assets. Their prospect pool isn't ranked very highly from what I've seen and they're going to have problems down the road unless they start working to address that. -
He's certainly got skill, no doubt about it. And if he didn't fit he's on a short term deal, gives us options. Here's hoping! Maybe, maybe not? They rented Giroux last season, they make a ballsy trade for Tkachuk, they gave Bobrovsky his massive deal. They're not afraid to make bold moves. They're a team built to compete now, Miller really isn't all that more expensive than Reinhart. And he's locked in. They could have options elsewhere though, absolutely. We'll see what happens with Miller, I'm of the belief that he largely is what he is as a player at this point. It's not super friendly, no. But it's a better option than paying to dump him imo given how many picks Florida has moved out. At the very least a buyout would likely give them space to bring in a backup and perhaps some cap cushion. I think a buyout is inevitable, it's just a matter of when and what the numbers look like imo. They could work it actually, I was discussing this will mll. Things might be a bit tight this season and next but with cap projected to jump quite a bit in the coming seasons I don't think it has to be a long-term headache. Hornqvist's 5.3M will be off the books, Yandle's buyout cap hit will drop by roughly 4M, Darling's 1.1M buyout will be off the books. Duclair could be moved. Knight's raise eats up some of that but not all. Marc Staal could be replaced by another player, they could either retain or replace Gudas's 2.5M. Cap should also go up a bit and then it's supposed to jump quite significantly. Florida may be able to address their D to a degree even with Miller coming in, it'd probably take them more than one offseason to really overhaul it anyway. I don't think Bo gets you Ekblad, tougher season or not. Particularly signed for two more seasons at 7.5M per. Ekblad also has a full NMC, why would he leave a team that was a juggernaut as recently as last season to come here?

(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller

It's five o'clock somewhere I suppose

Eh, I don't buy that top six players can't or shouldn't kill penalties, it's a load of crap regardless of what Tocchet says. Some of the best penalty killers have been, and are top six players. Your Bergeron, Kesler, Datsyuk, Barkov, Fedorov, O'Reilly, Marner, Danault, Stone, Couturier, Toews, Brind'Amour, Yzerman, ect. Pettersson is an excellent two way player too. You could go back even further throughout decades and eras and list less heralded guys who were excellent two way players. But yes, we do miss having role players. This team never really replaced Sutter, or Beagle for that matter. We don't have a Hansen or Kesler on the roster. As for the D, yeah, a known weakness that management completely ignored last summer. That's likely going to be more of an ongoing gradual project.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Coconuts replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'd admittedly be surprised if management shipped him out but I'm hoping. I don't expect the Canucks will amount to much while he's still anywhere close to being worth 8M though, I also question how he'll age as forwards tend to drop off during their early to mid 30's and we get him til he's 37. If folks think he's not great defensively now just wait til he inevitably starts slowing down. I don't think Rutherford has the spine to make a trade that makes him look foolish, man has too big an ego. But I'm hoping. I mean, I'd take that too. I think they'll do something I just don't know what, I can't see them wanting to hand Montreal a lottery pick. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Coconuts replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think that's probably the inevitable route, they've given up too many 1sts as is. Buying him out would free up enough cap for them to find a back up and then some at the very least. It's just a matter of when and what the numbers look like imo. I mean, you make a fair point and I could very well see it not happening. But hey, I'm sure they'd move forward all the same if they do end up moving him. Bruce was a dead man walking either way, it's no secret that Rutherford didn't want him around. Was going to happen at some point, Miller or Boudreau being here or not. And maybe, but Tkachuk can be a bit of a shit too and they went and grabbed him. If he could step in and produce I don't think they'd care, he wouldn't have as bright a spotlight on him in Florida either, which would probably suit him just fine. -
(Discussion) Price for Quinn Hughes?
Coconuts replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
But Hughes IS a top pairing LHDman Imagine a 1-2 punch of Hamilton and Hughes as your offensive drivers from the back end Could get them a cup -
Perhaps, but it's a proposal nonetheless. Wasn't it Allvin who said it wasn't going to be a quick fix? Personality or not, if they don't see us being competitively in a significant manner sooner than later and I'd argue the remainder of Miller's prime would be wasted here and that 8M in cap space could be better allocated. It's also a landing spot I could see Miller being agreeable too which is important when considering a Miller trade regardless of whether his NMC is active or not. If it's personality they want there are other ways to approaching that. You can have guys who bring that stuff who don't carry an 8M cap hit. Wanting a bit more piss and vinegar, if that's what they really want, doesn't necessarily mean it has to be provided by JT Miller. Hence my point about them retaining, or our retaining. It's only a matter of time before we ship out cap, let's be real. There's a good chance we could accommodate Florida capwise over the remainder of the season going forward. And maybe, but if they want to compete, which I think they do, there is upside to having someone who's cost controlled with a history of point per game or better production. Regardless of where they're at they want to compete going forward and Miller would likely look good playing with someone like Barkov or Tkachuk. They very well could simply move Reinhart for stuff themselves, but hey, this is a proposals section and I've proposed what I view as a legitimate hockey trade that could work for both sides.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Coconuts replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Perhaps, but I still believe there's a move to be had. What they might have to do if they really want to be competitive is find a solution to that Bobrovsky contract. -

Plus, wouldn't Reinhart look pretty sick playing alongside Pettersson? He put up 82 points last season. 36 in 48 thus far.
