Looks like Florida could be out a 2C for a while, they're a team that absolutely does not want to bottom out given Montreal owns their 1st. They also went in and grabbed Tkachuk in the offseason, this is a team that wants to demonstrate that it can be competitive. Florida hasn't adjusted to their new coach the way they'd have probably liked but they're still in it, and will likely continue to try and jockey for the playoffs going forward. Enter JT Miller. I'd argue that Miller isn't a center so much as a winger who can take draws, he could moonlight as a center for the Panthers though. I also see Florida being a team he'd probably be okay with going to, it's not as if he hasn't played in that state before and the future is pretty uncertain in these parts nowadays. He'd actually make more money playing for Florida too. How would it work? Well, something like this.. roughly. To Florida JT Miller To Vancouver Sam Reinhart Reinhart is from Vancouver, he's producing this season but is absolutely a winger. He's got one season remaining on his deal after this one so you can either try to extend him, trade him, or allow him to walk. There's a possibility to garner assets by acquiring him, or cap flex. He comes in at 6.5M, so really.. Florida would only be adding 1.5M to their cap going forward by bringing in Miller. And I could see them being a team that doesn't care about his term so much if they think they can go deep on the regular going forward. They're built more to be a team that competes in the playoffs sooner than later, that ain't us. They're a season removed from being a bit of a juggernaut, I could see Miller having interest. Florida might have to retain cap on Reinhart's contract for the remainder of the season to make it work but it's doable. We could potentially even retain cap on Miller's deal for the remainder of the season and garner perhaps another asset if a Miller trade is preceded by what seems like an inevitable Horvat trade. I don't see us being a team that's a playoff regular for a while, management has a lot of work to do still new shiny coaching staff or not. It's not going to be a quick process imo. Freeing ourselves of 7x8M would be a boon going forward, could be best for both parties as we all know Miller wants to win. The deal itself might need some tinkering but I think there could be something there.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Coconuts replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Reinhart is from Vancouver, he's producing this season, he's got less term on his deal, and he allows us some potential cap flex if we don't retain his services They get a guy with term, they've shown they're willingness to go in to try and contend, and he'll only make 1.5M more next season than Reinhart does now -

Miller for Reinhart and they retain enough cap to balance the cap hits for the remainder of the season, or we retain on the remainder of this season and they make it worth our while He's not a center but he can moonlight as one for them until they're healthy and then slot back to the wing Reinhart can be flipped again, extended, or allowed to walk as his deal is up after next season -
Take care ol' bean, been nice engaging with ya

Jaromir Jagr was a Penguin, we should sign him to play wing for Pettersson asap -
I mean, I welcome your opinions You've always been one of the more insightful posters around here imo and you provide good sources and the like to back up your points As for AV, yeah he's definitely up there if not the guy I'd take Av's initial boring defensive hockey over what we've had the last season and a half It's no coincidence that he was the guy behind the bench coaching what was one of the most statistically dominant teams ever

You get more longevity from a Horvat too if you can retain him, Giroux was 34 -

Do go on -
Always a good interview. He's right, Boudreau wasn't done right. He's also right about Rutherford's criticisms of Bruce regarding structure, team, their defensive play, ect. It was on Rutherford to address the defense during the summer and everyone knew it, they did nothing. Boudreau was given a subpar team from the outset, the personnel is on Allvin and Rutherford. Rutherford has a track record of liking to point fingers, redirect, or to shift blame elsewhere. He doesn't own his own shit very often. He's also right about getting a new coach mid season being tough, you're very much learning on the fly. Getting a bump doesn't benefit us at this point either, he's right about that, and that's one of the reasons why I wasn't keen on making a coaching change til closer to the end of the season. We're better off losing. I understand the argument of trying to fast-track some of the adjustments but Hansen's right, you just don't have the time to really button down and learn and adjust to all these things mid-season. Particularly with it not just being one new coach coming in, but three. It's going to be a lot and we probably won't see immediate results, thankfully we'll probably continue to see mostly losses. He's also right about Miller needing to make sure he's not actively hurting the team when he's not playing well, about not letting things get sour the way he has this season. I'd agree that we probably don't have the horses for an effective PK and that's on Rutherford and Allvin. He's also right about needing to take pride in not being scored on, and about that coming more naturally for players who are paid to not be scored on. We miss guys like Eddie, Tanev, Kes, Burrows, Hansen, Higgins, Manny and so on.

Miller doesn't hold a candle to Kes's compete level. Both of them being moody doesn't make them similar, Kes worked his ass off game in and game out for years and as a result was one of the top two-way forwards of the 2000's-2010's era. I'd take a Kesler over a Miller every day of the week, even if he's not producing every game he's making valuable contributions in other ways. I think in the end Bo will opt to move on, and I think he'll get more than this management group is prepared to pay him. This is the fourth coach Bo's seen as a Canuck, I don't think the results will be all that different for the remainder of the season and I think he's probably tired of losing.

Could be they both go to Carolina and we take Raanta back in a trade. Wouldn't that be fun? -

A Demko trade being a possibility certainly makes you question what timeline they're looking at. He's better than he's been this season, I think most folks know that. He's got three seasons left on his deal and he'll be 31 when it's up? Maybe they don't think they'll be competitive the way they'd like in three years and that they won't be able to retain him? Maybe he's requested a trade? I think it'll be a longer process than people are expecting, a Demko trade would make sense for a team like Buffalo who could use some stability between the pipes even if that's working in tandem with Luukkonen. A team like Carolina could make sense too, they don't have a tender signed beyond this season. Andersen will be 34 in October while Raanta will be 34 in May. Gotta think Thatcher would thrive in Carolina's system. Demko's also cost controlled at 5M which could appeal to a team with players due for raises in Carolina. -
