Not a bad tank night so far Florida won which keeps them ahead of us Montreal won Columbus won, although I'd have preferred San Jose as we can actually beat them out imo Ducks lost but the Sabers beat them which keeps them ahead of us Chicago's up two goals and has a period to play, hoping they can beat the Blues Philly won, was hoping Detroit would force a three point game but no luck -
Moving on from Bruce isn't the wrong move, how they've approached going about handling that transition this season has been a mountain of flaming tires encircling a circus though. They could have shut their trap and just ridden things out, most fans knew he wasn't coming back. The fanbase is pushing back against how he's been treated because of how he's been treated not because they think he's in the running for a Jack Adams. Tocchet was a shit choice, no bones about it. We probably could have done better if we'd been patient, bringing in a new coach isn't going to fix anything at this point in the season.

He's a dead man walking coming in to replace a dead man walking. Short of it being a widely respected guy like Trotz most coaches walking in would have a hard time given how loved Bruce has been. It being Tocchet with all his baggage, his Pittsburgh connections, and so on just paints a bigger target on his back.

Think of it this way @Alflives, if we sell like we probably should there will be opportunity for young players on this roster going forward. It probably won't just be this season we miss the playoffs, it's unlikely we'll be a surefire playoff squad next season either. Particularly if we move out Bo. If any of Kuzmenko, Boeser, Garland, or Miller are moved out there will be opportunity. If Pearson can't play next season, or if he's out for a while there's even more opportunity. Same goes on D. The only two guys guaranteed any longevity on our back end are Hughes and OEL (because it's likely too much of a headach to buy him out, we're better off just riding it out).

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

Like I said, I'm pretty sure management had already made up their mind at that point unfortunately. It was likely going to take an unrealistic kind of offer for them to move Miller. That Bruce bump was fun to watch but in retrospect it was the worst thing that could have happened last season as if led management and segments of the fanbase to believe we were further along than we really were. We weren't that second half team we were also that first half team, it wasn't a tale of two seasons we were both halves and that's continued this season. The biggest difference being Demko isn't covering for us anymore. Same thing goes for the bubble playoffs, same deal. That season Markstrom had gone down with a knee injury and we were sliding prior to the season being canceled. We had a high enough point percentage or whatever to make the cut for the previously non-existent playoff round and went on to play a stretch of good hockey. Had the season continued we likely would have missed and we probably wouldn't have gone out and made the OEL and Garland trade. Benning thought we were further ahead than we were, funny how that's a recurring theme. We should have traded Miller, signed Bo during the summer, actually begun addressing our defense, and been willing to possibly take a step back to take multiple steps going forward. We'd likely have a better record with a more well-rounded roster. But hey, woulda coulda shoulda.
