I don't disagree, I do question whether they'd want Garland's term though His cap hit isn't bad for what he brings and his term isn't super long but it does make me wonder
-
I mean, if it pays well I'm sure several CDC'ers would take the job. If nothing else the organization would probably be more entertaining to track. It's telling when longer-term fans like yourself can't stomach where the organization is at and what they're doing. I hope you recover soon though, wishing you the best on that front for sure.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Coconuts replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I see him as being a better fit for a team like Detroit imo, him and Larkin would make a very positive 1-2 punch of they could get Bo to extend I think Larkin stays, particularly if they can bring Bo in Buffalo could definitely use some vets, I just don't see them needing one in their top 6 so much Their D is very young with Lyubushkin being the oldest guy at 28, Bryson is the next oldest guy at 25 Their forward group is also very young, hence my emphasis on them bringing in some defense oriented veteran forwards to slot into their bottom 6 They could absolutely use some stability in net, which is why I've floated Demko to Buffalo in the past, Luukkonen is supposedly pegged as the future but he's far from a sure thing despite his pedigree Some stability in net would go a long way, but I think finding a way to add some veteran defensive presence would really help them too -
Hmm, I've heard we're supposed to see significant cap jumps going forward but I question whether Carolina would approach their cap based on speculation. But if it works, great, they can absolutely have Boeser or Garland as part of a deal. I'd retain on Horvat for the remainder of the season and possibly and Boeser as well, say 1-2M. I'm more open to retaining cap than others, it depends on what the incentive is to do so though. I'm open to retaining cap in the short-term to facilitate deals.

Horvat works, I'll explain why I don't think they'd take on Boeser or Garland though. Aho will likely need a raise after next season, Peche, Terevainen and Skjei will need new deals as well. They've got other players to re-sign or replace as well. They'll get Gardiner's LTIR freed up which gives them just over 4M so that'll help and they could always just let Kase walk which frees up another 1.5M. If Boeser only had a year left on his deal I could see it but I reckon Carolina will be cautious about bringing in term until they get their in-house stuff figured out. Now, that's just my opinion but I believe Carolina really likes their group and will likely look to at least prioritize Aho, Pesche, and Skjei first. Slavin is up the year after but Burns also expires and that'll likely take care of itself. Maybe they could juggle Brock's hit if we retained a bit.

Honestly though, the way management and ownership are treating Bruce isn't going unnoticed by media around the league, or by players or fans of other teams. It's not just Canucks fans who think the way he's being treated is shit. It's embarrassing that we'd trot out a coach with his record, longevity, and obvious passion for the game as a dead man walking day after day. He deserves better than this even if he hasn't been able to get winning results from the roster this season.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Coconuts replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Horvat's a good defensive player in the sense that having him on the roster means you're winning more faceoffs, and therefore probably starting with possession most of the time when he's on the ice. He holds his own defensively but he's not a Kesler caliber two-way player. I wouldn't say he's lousy but he's not a Sutter, Beagle, Barkov, Kopitar, or Bergeron defensively. Buffalo would honestly be better off looking for players who are more in the defensive vein for both their bottom six and for their defense, even if they don't bring as much offense. Even if their scoring took a bit of a hit they'd likely be a better overall team. -
I like him too, I like his enthusiasm. But that being said his production vs cap hit makes him arguably our second best trade chip after Horvat and I think we're in a position where we need to capitalize on that. Same goes for Schenn to a less degree, good value vs cap hit. I think Boeser's value can be rehabilitated and I'm not actually willing to pay to move him. Gotta play someone in the top six. It's no secret that I'd move Miller. Horvat's a goner.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

Pretty much. They're in an enviable position really. Some good prime aged talent, plenty of young talent, oodles of picks and prospects, cap flex. If they find a way to fit some savvy vets onto their D, bolster their bottom six, and find themselves some stability in net I could see them making the playoffs sooner than later. They're in a good spot to get better going forward. -

He's gotta be pretty much untouchable you'd think, Dahlin up front or not. He's a young 1OA with size, you keep those. He also plays both sides if I'm not mistaken? You'd know that better than me. -
Hard to say, I'm speculating that it could be but it's too early to really say. All we really know is he tore it again last night. Two tears in under a year is no small thing though, professional athlete or not. And given his deal is up at the end of the season it's hard to say where and if he's offered opportunities based on where his health is at. He's been hurt quite a bit over the years.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

Horvat is a luxury Buffalo doesn't really need though. Tage Thompson is their 1C and has 60 points in 44 games and Dylan Cozens is their 2C with 41 points in 44 games. If anything Buffalo needs to beef up their defense and bottom six, scoring isn't their issue at all, they need to address keeping pucks out of their net. They're 2nd in goals scored and 5th on the powerplay but they're also 24th in goals allowed, 26th on the PK, and 25th in shots on goals allowed per game. If anything keeping Power will benefit what's currently a weakness going forward. -
I'm not sure they'd take both Horvat and Boeser but I could see them taking Horvat and slotting him into their mostly vacant 2C spot. Pacioretty's 7M opening up at the end of the season mostly pays Horvat too. We're not getting Necas, as a team with contention aspirations they're not going to trade out their leading scorer, they're just not. But they do have plenty of prospects who'd look really nice on either our team or in our system. I think Staal likely re-signs on a cheaper deal to stick around as their 3C, he's still producing at a good clip and he's got some deep roots there. Hard to see him going anywhere else.

This is my own speculation, let's get that out of the way. But Patches is 34 as of last November and this is his second time tearing his Achilles in under a year. That's a hard injury for any player to recover from and Patches ain't young anymore, let alone twice in such a short period of time. Could this be it? His deal is up at the end of the season. Maybe this opens up a door for a Horvat trade? https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2552720/pacioretty-tears-achilles-for-2nd-time-in-5-months

Not sure, I'm not all that familiar with Winnipeg's system tbh I'd be asking about Perfetti though, their 2020 10OA pick who's got 26 points in 41 games -

I'd honestly be very interested in Dubois if he became available, a tandem of him and Pettersson up front would be nuts. He absolutely wouldn't come cheap though and short of some sort of Horvat/Dubois swap with other pieces involved we likely couldn't afford him. -
Talking to his side or not, I still think we should trade him. Moving out Horvat, Schenn, and Kuzmenko at a minimum would go a long way towards acquiring picks, prospects, and young players who may be able to make the jump. I'd move out Miller too of course if a team will take him. I still think he's got some value we'd just likely have to take a sizeable amount of cap back.

[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn

And likely a NTC if he turns around and comes back for a third go round
