  2. At this rate Anaheim is gonna finish their rebuild before we start one
  3. Only 7-8 more years until the next retool We're stuck in a loop
  4. How many "great" players do most teams have? I mean, if you look at his numbers last season was actually the first time he'd ever had more goals than assists. 200 career goals, 214 career assists. No, he's not a Pettersson type player offensively but most teams only have maybe a couple of those at all. Bo's historically been a 2C who'd probably be a 1C on weaker teams, he's still that. The caveat is he's also never really had an opportunity to be a 1C here. He's also historically been saddled with subpar linemates. Henrik was 1C up until he retired and Pettersson stepped in and hit the ground running the next. Pettersson was the future from the get go. I'm not arguing that we should overpay Bo, I'm pretty sure he's good as gone, but throw him into the top six of a team that's already a playoff caliber team and I think he might just surprise some folks. I'd also argue that you're wrong, having Bo behind him made JT Miller better last season, Miller does not have that season without Horvat being on the roster. Bo not only contributed offensively, he made his life a helluva lot easier simply by playing the role he did for the Canucks. Need a big faceoff? Horvat. Need a center to take on more of the defensive load on a roster that doesn't feature a center whose role is to specifically do that? Horvat. Trying to maintain possession and defend a lead? Horvat. Powerplay? Horvat. PK? Horvat. Overtime? Probably Horvat. Bottom line is without Horvat doing his thing Miller would have had to play a more two-way role last season, simply having Horvat on the roster makes the life of every other center easier. Horvat's always been more than his production, he wears a lot of hats for this club and we don't have anyone who can replace that currently in the system.
  5. On one hand you'll have folks arguing they want players who want to win, on the other hand there's the fact that there's a good chance players aren't going to stick around if this team continues to consistently miss the playoffs. But I mean, throwing money at players will sometimes work. This is a ways off but do folks think Hughes will want to stay when his deal is up if the Canucks are still treading water? If Demko's still playing at a high level would he want to stick it out? Do folks really expect a discount from Pettersson? Next season will be season number six and he'll have made the playoffs once going into it. It's probably gonna be a while before we're a surefire playoff team let alone a contender, if Bo wants a crack at a cup he'll almost certainly have to go somewhere else.
  6. I fully expect him to be traded, have been saying this for a while. But yeah, dumping on Bo for wanting to get paid makes no sense. I reckon most players aren't going to take a significant financial discount to play on a long-term loser. If I were a player who'd spent my entire career playing for a team that wasn't really competitive I'd leave as a free agent too.
  7. Wanna know the difference? All of Bieksa, Hamhuis, Burrows, Hansen, and the Sedin's were part of successful Canucks teams who regularly made the playoffs. Ehrhoff not so much, but the others had. Bo's made the playoffs twice in eight seasons leading up to this one, the Canucks will almost certainly miss out again. One of those appearances was made as a rookie on a Sedin led team, the other happened during a season that was canceled because of an unforeseen worldwide pandemic that featured a never seen before play-in round. All Bo's largely done as a Canuck is lose, despite his best efforts. Easy to take a discount to stay on a team that's a winner, I don't expect many would do it for a loser. I don't blame Bo at all for wanting to get paid, but I also believe it's about more than the money. If he wants to win a cup there's a good chance he'll have to play somewhere else.
  8. I love watching Mac play, that combination of speed and talent is absurd
  9. Yeah, but really, it's amazing how many around here saw the direction they needed to take this roster as early as Nov/Dec 2021 and yet management couldn't figure it out Despite Rutherford recognizing that Demko was carrying this team on his back even I still can't believe they did absolutely nothing to address our most blatant and obvious weakness last summer, defense Big ol' management group that's done some good things but that has largely whiffed
  10. Let's just pretend this is Horvat, looks enough like him
  11. Most NHL superstars don't fight From what I can find hulking Mario Lemieux wasn't much of a fighter either
  12. MacKinnon with a four point game, the league is better when he's his dominant self Looks to be bouncing back from injury well, just in time to meet us later this week
  13. Players when they can hit personal milestones against the Canucks
  14. His being a good runner isn't surprising given how great he was at running up the score
  15. Guess I'll just go down the list and respond. We know Pearson was bungled, how it was bungled will probably be leaked eventually. Not surprised they can't comment on it. Glad they're not rushing Demko back, he didn't look quite like himself to begin with and his long-term health is more important going forward than his rushing back to play this season. We're disappointed in what you've accomplished too Jim. Not the core players, but other players on the team? Sounds like more of the same, tinkering around the edges. Doesn't exactly line up with the major surgery bit though, the veteran part of this core should be ejected. Of course he's gonna say ownership isn't meddling, not sure I buy that but it is what it is. Yup, we've got some contracts that are tough to move and we'll have to ride it out. Buyouts are one option, hopefully paying teams to take on more contracts isn't. We'll see what the cap actually ends up being going forward. Of course we're taking a step back, this team isn't as far along as you initially thought. It's a shame that wasn't realized last season before the trade deadline or before they went and gave Miller his retirement deal. Bo gone, I really wanted him signed during the summer, argued he was the more important piece but they lowballed him and he's gone on to have a great season offensively. Woulda coulda shoulda. Hopefully they ride it out with Bruce, a coaching change shouldn't be in the works sooner than later. It won't accomplish anything and there really shouldn't be any rush, wait til there's a larger pool of potential coaches. Retool, rebuild, it's probably a rebuild. You can look for young players all you'd like but you'll have to take what the market is willing to pay. Horvat could probably get you a young NHL player or two, not sure our other trade bait will. Kuzmenko will still be traded imo, guess we'll see. They were always going to talk to his camp but that doesn't mean there will be an extension. Of course you're not gonna tell the coach or players to stop JR, we know what a tank is. It's up to you to make the team weaker this season. Nice to hear you say, yeah, we absolutely want Bedard. Buyouts are interesting, I'm curious as to who they're considering. Probably more a Myers or Pearson than an OEL. Maybe Poolman.
  16. Nothing. There's nothing wrong with folks having different views and opinions than you. You aren't a better fan for not being on board with it, I'm not a better fan for being pro-tank and pro-rebuild. The players won't go out and try to lose, that's not what a tank is. A tank is management calling a spade a spade and recognizing that their team isn't competitive and either allowing things to unfold organically or by removing pieces from the roster to make said roster less competitive. The players always want to win, but management can trade guys out and plug depth pieces or AHL players into the roster. They can trade valuable pieces on their roster that help make said roster more competitive for picks, prospects, and players. They can sell. We'll almost certainly see that with a Horvat trade. We already have a losing culture, look at the past decade. We've been mediocre at best, our prospect pool needs help at all positions, we've repeatedly traded picks and failed to properly draft and develop prospects in-house. It could even be argued that Hughes and Pettersson were simply too naturally talented for us to screw up, they stepped right in and hit the ground running, most prospects don't. They didn't see a lick of development time anywhere but the NHL. Everyone here wants a cup, but there are several different takes on how to get there.
  17. Montreal is the most recent example, they embraced being bad last season and sold off quite a few assets Amazing how quickly a team that had somehow made it's way to the cup final embraced a change of direction
  18. Tank all the way, I've no shame in saying I'm hoping they lose as many games as possible
  19. Bruce deserves better, they've treated him like garbage This franchise is a circus
  20. Just another generic meeting with the media, just like back in Pittsburgh What could possibly go wrong
  21. "We investigated ourselves and found we'd done nothing wrong"
