  1. But signing guys to one year deals and trading them sets a bad precedent or something and scares off free agents..
  2. It's gotta be, it's the lowest mark since I've been following them Even the Desjardins era teams played harder
  3. Isn't this draft supposed to be deeper than next? Could be teams are more likely to trade 2024 picks if that's the belief
  4. Imagine Toronto having their own version of McDavid in their division, but on another team It's a nice thought
  5. If we don't win it I'd be fine if they did At least they'd get to beat on Toronto going forward High end NHL youth, tons of picks and prospects, few long term anchors They're gonna be a fun team once they get going
  6. It'd be funny to have an NHL RD with the last name Bonk You could make a hit highlight package and just throw the sound effect in and it'd be gold
  7. Nah, I'm fulling expecting him to be traded, why would he want to stay? Folks just like to whine about captains in this market They did it about Naslund, they did it about Henrik, they do it about Bo, they'll do it about whoever comes next It's a tough gig playing in a Vancouver market, the C just puts a target on your chest
  8. Ahh yes, the magical and vague "something" Bunch of tough guys Take a look at the list of current NHL captains and cross reference it with their fight cards, or lack thereof Folks whine about Bo as if he's the only captain who doesn't play like he's from the 90's/2000's/early 2010's https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-list-of-captains/c-335526652 https://www.hockeyfights.com/players
  9. I'm sure McDavid, Hischier, Suzuki, Larkin, Tavares, Stamkos, Josi, Spurgeon, Barkov, and Bergeron are all regularly throwing punches
  10. Sens score another Props to Vejmelka, dude has been absolutely under siege all season playing netminder for the Coyotes
  11. Smyl was just Linden before Linden was Linden But again, a player from a completely different era, one that's looooong gone
  12. That's basically it imo The game just isn't like that anymore, and players who play the way players play back then, the odd throwback, you don't see them very often Weber was one of those players, Gudbranson is another Reaves too, although the enforcer style players of old would have likely wrecked him The game has changed, time marches on, and yet some fans yearn for a style of game long gone and one that's almost certainly never coming back
  13. The captaincy just paints a bigger target on players in this market We're fortunate to have had players in Marcus, Henrik, and Bo who've graciously taken that in stride There's just no winning as a captain in Vancouver, there's only one Trevor Linden and that was a different time and a different game
  14. Fans put too much emphasis on the captaincy imo, or at least that's what I've noticed around here. You don't need a letter to be a leader but folks like to fetishize what they want in a captain. Some fans seem to want Shea Weber and nothing less. Huge, talented, tough as as nails, good at both ends, physical. Weber was a unicorn, a throwback to an era of hockey that doesn't exist anymore. Some fans want a unicorn. Which is why I prefer captains who aren't your star guys, who are guys who just go out and do their job. That's all I look for in a leader, someone who shows up game in and game out and just does their job. I don't need all the bells and whistles or the toughness some fans fetishize. The game has changed, pushback looks different nowadays and you're never gonna see that rough and tumble pushback come back. A third liner with Hansen's work ethic would be a perfectly acceptable captain in my eyes.
  15. Canucks don't need an emotional leader, they need a properly structured roster. They don't have it. We aren't going to be contending sooner than later and what's left of his prime will likely be spent on a team that won't do a whole lot. The season itself may not have been predictable but his coming back down to earth was, you call it a career season for a reason.
  16. I still disagree. Your most talented player doesn't need to be your captain, I'd rather see more of a role player take it on. Let your offensive engines focus on driving the offense. If Schenn comes back he can have it, I prefer captains who aren't your driving engines. Your Jordan Staal, your Jared Spurgeon, your Jacob Trouba. I'd rather go with three or four A's than give Pettersson the C. If he wants it that's one thing but I'd rather just wait and see who emerges if Schenn doesn't get it.
  17. Nah, let him just focus on scoring He doesn't enjoy dealing with the media as is
  18. Canucks should just go with 3-4 A's once Horvat is traded so folks can complain about not having a captain instead of pecking at whoever gets the C
  19. Petey's been putting a lot of rubber on net lately, I'm really enjoying his game this season It's pretty clear he's the future and this team should be built around him and Hughes, hopefully management sell and begin that building process Ship out the vets you can get value for
