  1. I think 6M is likely what his camp is eying, and probably as much term as they can get him They'll shoot higher of course, they're not gonna negotiate from what they think they can get, they'll negotiate down and try to meet in the middle I don't see him doing the Canucks any favours though, he's been here a year and he doesn't really owe us anything He signed here because he'd heard good things, have good conversations, had friends here, and because he'd get an opportunity He'd have gotten that opportunity elsewhere though imo, and all the aforementioned doesn't mean he's going to give us a discount It's a business at the end of the day, every player knows that
  2. If I was closer I'd drop in to see Abbotsford sometimes They're playing fun hockey from what I've gathered
  3. It's shifted a bit, sure, but I think there were quite a few folks who were more in the middle. I've been firmly on the one side for a while, there are quite a few of us who've been firmly on one side or the other. Some of it's people likely having changed their mind though, I do agree. Mind you I've peeked into other places besides CDC, while the Miller signing may have been well received on CDC it wasn't a consenus amongst the Canucks fanbase. I'm not keen on moving out picks in general but that one worked out, we just didn't capitalize on him the way we should have. I can't remember my reaction the initial trade, I'd have to go dig for it, but in retrospect we probably would have been better off gutting it out at the bottom for a few more seasons. That was part of my argument for moving Miller, I reckoned we'd be better off taking shorter term steps back in order to take more steps forward going forward. I thought we could be a fringe playoff team without him though. This current management group hasn't helped themselves. Their moves haven't all been bad but not trading Miller and retaining Boeser wasn't ideal. I'd have been fine moving on from both of them tbh. He doesn't have the shot he once did and that was his biggest weapon. I think there's a path to fixing things but it likely involves ejecting the veteran parts of this core, guys like Miller and Horvat. As previously mentioned I was all in on keeping Bo, now I view him moving on as inevitable. He's upped his value, we lowballed him, and all he's largely done during his Canucks tenure is lose. Miller still doesn't fit our competitive timeline, less so if Bo's not in the fold. OEL's likely stuck here for a while, we'll have to ride that one out. I'd still try to build around Pettersson, Hughes, and Podz. I've waivered a bit on Demko, it depends on the offer, but if he can bounce back he's a good piece. Stable. We should be looking to acquire picks, prospects, and young NHL'ers to build up the wave the comes after Pettersson and Hughes. I don't see us contending any time soon but if we're smart we can still build a good team. No more long term deals to anyone who isn't Pettersson in the near future. Cap flex is key, therefore we should be eying guys we can sign to short or medium term deals. I'm open to retaining Schenn but I'd trade him if a team offered a 2nd or better. I'd also trade Kuzmenko this season and try to move Pearson and Myers are 50% during the summer or at some point next season. I think Boeser and Garland's value could be rehabilitated, and that there's space for Garland going forward at the very least. If we're moving guys out we'll need to play someone in our top six. A lot of it involves management calling a spade a spade though, there are no quick fixes with this group and we're likely further away than closer despite JR's insistence we could contend within two years. Our defense will likely take a while to address for one, the same goes for our prospect pool.
  4. It's okay, there are more than enough trade Miller drums for us to beat together But yeah, we've been in agreement about a lot of things including players, the future of the team, direction, culture, ect most of the past year @stawns too
  5. Yes Alf, I know where you stand on ownership You've argued that almost as much as I've argued we should move/should have moved Miller
  6. I was arguing we should trade Miller starting back roughly around November 2021 and I haven't stopped. I wanted him gone at the deadline or prior to it in 2022, and again at the draft, and again last summer. I've consistently argued we were probably at least four years out from contention whereas there were several who argued we were within two years of it. I repeatedly argued that Horvat should be prioritized, I also argued we'd probably be better off trading Miller for picks, prospects, or to help address our D, running with Pettersson and Horvat as our one two punch, and that we could be competitive without Miller. I was pointing out Miller's weak defensive play, poor passing decisions, tendency to float, and so on but many were willing to give him a pass because he was having a career season. He's still doing those things and now he's not on pace for what he was last season. He still gives up some of what he produces via his defensive play but his production isn't what it was. There were a lot of folks keen to retain him, who were sure his being a 99 point player was somehow his new normal, there were also plenty like myself who argued that he didn't fit our competitive timeline. I thought we were further away, it's sure looking that way. I argued we should build around Pettersson, Hughes, Podz, and Demko going forward and that Horvat could be a good transitional piece, I still think that would have been a better direction. It's not just about folks looking back in retrospect, some of us have been arguing we'd be better off moving him for over a year now. And a great many other things since at least last spring.
  7. Teams pay for rentals every year Kuzmenko also offers something most rentals don't, he comes in at a bargain cap hit, which could potentially allow a team to add further Particularly if we take cap back Hagel's a bit younger and has term remaining on his deal but Tampa gave up a lot for a player with 21 goals and 37 points in 55 games last season Gave up two 24 year old prospects who'd been drafted in the 2nd round and a pair of protected 1st round picks Kuzmenko's got 17 goals and 18 assists for 35 points in 39 games thus far and comes in at a 950k cap hit, Hagel came in at a 1.5M cap hit which was part of why he was worth so much Even with his performance bonus he could be worth it to a team trying to push their chips in for a cup, particularly if they think they could retain him All things considered I'd be surprised if he couldn't fetch a 1st, maybe only a 1st but that's not nothing by any means
  8. This is why this reported talk of a bridge makes me scratch my head a bit. Say he signs a two or three year deal and doesn't build on what he's already done, he's out millions of dollars. If he walks to UFA someone will throw money and longer term at him. Maybe not seven years, but four or five? He's turning twenty seven, I could see someone gambling on him til he's thirty two or maybe thirty three. He's not some early twenties dude, he's in his prime and closer to his decline than younger players, why wouldn't he go for the money while he can? Sure, he could gamble on himself but I'm not expecting him to. If his agent has any sense, and he does, he'll be looking to get Kuzmenko more term.
  9. If Kuzmenko continues to produce the way he has I expect he could bring back at least a 1st closer to the deadline His production vs cap hit is fantastic, any team that fancies themselves a contender could fit him in rather easily and it's not as if we couldn't take cap back
  10. I don't know what you guys are talking about, clearly OEL has picked up Eriksson's mantle as this team's Swedish savior He knows what's best for us and his name is Connor Bedard You'll eat tank shaped cake and you'll like it
  11. Yuppp, it's gonna be interesting to watch I don't think they've got the guts to trade Miller although I'm hoping they do, I think Bo is traded because he won't extend, I think Garland stays, Myers probably goes during the summer or at next season's trade deadline at 50%, Kuzmenko likely goes, Boeser is kept and they try to rehabilitate his value, and Pearson is flipped at 50% sometime next season I could see Schenn being extended or traded, could go either way, or both
  12. Yup, even before the cups they were an elite team They've missed the playoffs once since 2013-2014 and that was during the 2016-2017 season The wild part is during 2016-17 they still went 42-30-10 Not only have they won two cups, they lost in the final to Colorado last season, they lost in the final back in 2014-15 against the Hawks, lost 3-4 in the conference finals to Pittsburgh in 2015-16 and 3-4 to Washington in 17-18 Could have made the final six times this past decade, they were close Meanwhile, in Vancouver..
  13. Yup, you were definitely leading the charge on Paul And yeah, the roster is a mishmash, it lacks an actual identity and the culture of the roster is in question too I don't see either being resolved quickly
  14. Optics and details matter in this market and always will, regardless of how people fuss about it. If it got out that the Canucks didn't even attempt to negotiate with Kuzmenko they'd be dragged, if they offer up even a token offer they can say they spoke to his camp. If word of supposed details gets out it doesn't really matter because it'll be he said she said. Agents can say what they want, you've got to take what agents say via the media with a grain of salt at the best of times. The Canucks aren't likely to confirm anything regarding contract negotiations. I think he'll be dealt, this is just the Canucks covering their bases.
  15. You're a glutton for punishment but we're all still here posting so I suppose we all are You were definitely more optimistic going into this season though, I'll give you that I miss the prime Sedin's era when we'd just roll over teams, at least we still have those highlights we can rewatch It's wild honestly, I was following Tampa's last game and there was a brief period where Nick Paul was tied with Kucherov for goals this season His career season is 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points in 80 games last season between Ottawa and Tampa, he's already up to 15 goals and 24 points in 39 games I was hoping we'd be able to nab him as our 3C but no dice How tf does Tampa do it
  16. We should just start the game with the net empty and allow Stamkos to get it over with You know it's gonna happen
  17. He's twenty years old, plays for the Kings, and isn't an all-star yet Clearly a bust
  18. That's too bad, would have been nice to have possibly traded him. Pearson brings some net front presence, he's willing to go to the tougher areas, he provides complimentary offense, he'll throw down once in a while, and he's pretty solid defensively. He wasn't on fire before getting hurt but I reckon we could have gotten a third for him. Maybe next season.
