  1. I like Pearson tbh, he brings a defensive conscience to the line he's on despite not being a defensive specialist, but he's a player I'd be looking to flip at next season's deadline Buyout wouldn't be worth it, just ride it out, same goes for Myers if we can't trade him this season, if nothing else he's a tank commander for a team that could probably use a couple high 1sts and could probably be flipped next season at 50% imo Burroughs does bring some missing grit and he's sound defensively for a guy who's more of a depth guy, I see why people like him But yeah, wouldn't be shocked if he moved on given we've got Bear and Dermott as RFA's and Stillman signed for another season
  2. I think we'd need a bit more back if we were trading Schenn too imo, I think he's also got some really nice trade value given his cap hit I'd do Kuzmenko for Schneider though Maybe I'm a bit off with the value but let's say Kuzmenko and Schenn for Schneider and a 2nd or 3rd, probably a 3rd I think Kuzmenko could return a 1st if he keeps this up I'm open to retaining Schenn as I don't disagree with the argument folks make for keeping him, but I'm also open to trading him, if including him in such a deal got us a young RD in Schneider I'd do it Even if Schneider tops out as a #3-4D that'd be fine with me, we need to find a way to get younger on the back end and we've little in the way of RD in our system
  3. No, the only core pieces I believe in are Pettersson, Hughes, Demko, and Horvat and Horvat's likely on his way out.
  4. The caveat to this is we probably wanted more than just Schneider for Miller I mean, the rumoured package was Chytil, Lundqvist and a 1st which sounds pretty damn good now Collectively you'd think that was worth more than just Schneider
  5. And one they could probably actually retain I was thinking about it yesterday, if Chicago does somehow win Bedard I could simply see Kane circling back to go to Chicago to play with him Hope it doesn't happen, Hawks deserve to suffer
  6. I'm not opposed to him being in, but I am a tanker and I don't think he'd make much of a difference I do think we're better off trying to sink but that'd require at least one larger trade sooner than later, like a Horvat trade As for management, they've gone quiet and we haven't had many leaks this season, what their plan is and what they want to do going forward is anyone's guess
  7. Because he's also one of our best trade chips and we're a team that clearly isn't competitive as structured. We need to acquire picks, prospects, and young NHL players. His cap hit vs production makes him appealing to any team that fancies themselves as having a legit shot at the cup and he'd likely bring back a good haul. His agent was on back in early December speaking as to how they weren't looking at talking extension til the end of the season, or closer to it. When is closer to it? Hard to say. But we're going to have to make decisions prior to then. There's also the matter of cap space, as of right now we don't have the cap space to extend him and he's not going to come cheap. It's also unlikely we get any sort of discount, why would we? He hasn't even been here a year, we didn't draft him. He'll be 27 in February and this next contract will likely be his best opportunity to cash in. Also, doesn't matter if there are other players you'd sooner move if there aren't takers for them. There aren't very many teams with a ton of open space, moving contracts like Boeser, Garland, and Miller will almost certainly see cap of some sort coming back. Likely Myers too, possibly Pearson. A Horvat trade would free up cap but I question whether that cap space would be best spent on Kuzmenko when our defense could clearly use some help. There aren't many quick fixes for freeing up cap space in season unless we want to pay to dump players, which we shouldn't be given where we're at as a franchise. I believe Pettersson will be just fine without him, I'd rather sell him and build for the future which is clearly when we're probably more likely to actually be competitive.
  8. That'd make more sense imo, even with an extension Kuzmenko will almost certainly cost less than Miller going forward Plus he'd have Panarin there If nothing else he'd be easy to fit in this season for the Rangers
  9. Not gonna lie, given how the team is playing as a whole I'm not convinced Burroughs makes much of a difference But he's also just a 5-6D at best imo, more likely a 6-8D, I don't expect him the move the needle a ton when he does eventually get in
  10. I get the Schneider argument, several of us were making it for months leading up to last season's deadline But it they weren't willing to move him for Miller at his peak I question why they'd move him for Miller now
  11. And most of that will go right back into their roster, I don't think it'll fit. I think Chytil will get more than you're expecting, probably Miller too. Maybe a backup costs them a similar amount, maybe more. I'd assume Laffy gets a raise if he's still there, perhaps Kravtsov too. I could see them maybe looking for a forward up front but I don't see them taking on Miller's 8M. If the cap remains stagnant I could see them finding someone via UFA. New York sells itself.
  12. The mediocre middle is the worst place to be when trying to build imo. It's one thing if you've got a squad going through growing pains and you've already been building, another to get stuck in limbo while trying to be competitive. I think we're a ways out from being a surefire playoff team, building is what I'd focus on. Building and riding out some of the contracts we're sitting on. I'd be reluctant to give long term to anyone not named Pettersson or Hughes. I'd give Demko medium term if he bounces back, let's say four or five years once we get closer to his deal expiring. Depends on how he plays though, there's no rush on that one. Short and medium term are what I'd focus on going forward, cap flex is key.
  13. Some of us have. I certainly don't watch every game, I don't have time while school is in session as it's a lot to stay on top of. It's easier for me to pop in here and there throughout the day or watch chunks of games given I'm usually on my laptop anyway. As for picking another team, some of us are more stubborn than others. Some folks around here have stubbornly held on since the 70's. I'm not watching games as much, my being around here has it's ebbs and flows as I get busier with other things, I do have a life away from the Canucks. But yeah, I'm invested. Just perhaps not as much as I once was. Pettersson and Hughes aren't the pieces I'd be looking to move, they're some of the talented young youth I've spoken of and are worth building around. The flat cap makes things trickier, but I'm willing to take cap and term back to move out players like Miller. We're hamstrung by our cap constraints by many other teams, but management is paid handsomely to figure this stuff out. That's their job. I don't expect to get Bedard, even if we finished last the odds would be against us, but picking top five would be an absolute win. As for picks, that depends on whether they actually sell or not. I think Horvat goes though, possibly Kuzmenko and Schenn too. I've no issue with keeping Schenn as I like what he brings as a player and as a leader, I'd move out Kuzmenko though as he'd bring in a much needed haul given his cap his vs production. I wouldn't say there are so many good pieces but we've certainly got some talented young youth and a quality tender if Demko bounces back. We've got some interesting prospects too but I'd say our prospect pool is shallow when it comes to top end talent. I argued I think we're at least four years out from contention throughout the summer, it's probably further away than that, but the sooner we call a spade a spade and start focusing on the future as opposed to the veterans on this squad the better imo. A rebuild doesn't need to be an absolute teardown, Pettersson, Hughes, Podz, Hoglander, Demko, and possibly Horvat are pieces I'd be perfectly happy keeping. Although I think Horvat is traded, I don't think he'll extend. Everyone else is fair game, although I expect we'll likely have to ride out OEL's deal.
  14. I'm not taking homework assignments from you, I've got enough on my plate with actual school starting back up. Like I said, Jersey had some lottery luck, and yes it's absolutely been a gradual process. LA is still leaning on the pillars of their cup winning teams, they're likely still in rebuild territory despite their success this season and last, but they've got some talented young players on the roster and in the system. Plus some prime aged talent. They need to address their goaltending, certainly. Although Copley has shown well in a small sample size. Doughty will likely be a top player for them til he retires, he's aging pretty well. They're still further ahead of us, not contenders by any stretch but they're absolutely competitive right now. I've no issue with a longer term rebuild, when you embrace one there's no guarantee it'll be a short process. But hey, it's not as if it could be much worse than what I've seen this season and last as far as wins and losses go. And hey, if it is, so be it. I've waited this long, I can keep waiting if there's a clear direction. Rebuild or not, all I can do as a fan is watch and wait anyway. As for top picks, well, I wouldn't be advocating for bottoming out if I didn't see their value.
  15. Thing is, for a lot of fans it doesn't appear to just be about this season. Or in some cases about this management group exclusively. It's about the past decade of mostly losing and mediocrity, the lack of a real direction, a long term lack of positive results. @DeNiro said it earlier, we've seen teams in Jersey and LA who've made a final or two, rebuild, and build their way back up to being competitive. Sure, Jersey's had some lottery luck but they've also been smart. We've floundered most of the past ten years and are one of the biggest losers over that stretch. Last season caught a lot of people off guard, some were certain we surely couldn't be any worse this season and yet we're in the same gutter. Same poor start, same defensive warts, they're just more apparent now that Demko isn't masking them. You're always going to have your optimists, your folks who won't criticize the team or players no matter what, but you're also going to have fans like myself who simply don't see a whole lot to be optimistic about. Shallow prospect system, a team that doesn't perform, three playoff appearances since 2012-13 with two of those being Sedin led teams, a defense that is a mess, a veteran core I don't believe in. We've got some talented youth, I'd strip it down and build around them, everyone else can go. I started rooting for the Canucks in the early 2000's, I was spoiled by our most successful period of hockey ever. But I've also watched us flounder the last ten years, I may come across too critical to some but it's not as if I'm a fair-weather fan, I've been doing my time with what's largely been a loser. But I'm tired of losing, I'm tired of shortcuts, I'm tired of just trying to get into the playoffs because "anything can happen". I want a cup, I want an actual rebuild, which I've yet to see during my time as a Canucks fan. The Benning years weren't a rebuild, we just stunk despite Benning's best efforts, his goal was always the playoffs. I'm tired of rooting for a team that sucks, which is why I'm not overly attached to the players on the roster. I shouldn't have to go root for someone else because of my being tired. I'm not the only fan who feels this way, I've seen much longer tenured fans share similar sentiments. The longer this mediocrity continues the more apathetic fans are going to become. Some of it's what I've mentioned above, it's not just about this roster or this management group. Although this management group hasn't exactly endeared themselves yet, it's been a year now with JR. We've mostly just seen tinkering. Benning left them a mess and it was always going to take time to fix but still. Nobody knows what the hell they're thinking, things don't really leak. From what we've heard this season they don't seem interested in a rebuild but clearly we're not competitive. Nobody knows what the plan is, what the direction is. If they came out and told the fans they were going to rebuild like the Rangers did I'd embrace that, I could root for a young team that goes through growing pains if there was a clear direction. It's not as if I haven't already watched and waited the past ten seasons. We've put up with mediocrity most of the past decade, we can handle a rebuild. As for ownership, anyone's guess.
  16. Different teams We've beaten Colorado twice thus far if I'm not mistaken, the first time round they were injured as shit and this past game they were only slightly less injured Mac had just gotten back, still not Landeskog who hasn't played all season, no Byram, no Manson, no Nichushkin It hasn't been an Avs team at full strength at any point this season, but because they won the cup people have hyped our beating an injury depleted version of them Winnipeg on the other hand had all hands on deck and is a team that gives us fits at the best of times
  17. Hawks get at least a point tonight Blues win to stay ahead of us Need everyone below and above us to start winning more

    2. Elias Pettersson

      Elias Pettersson

Could be.  We could hire him as coach and offer him an AGM job afterwards.  We have 14 AGM's already so what's one more really.

Not sure there's been a GM/Coach role since Quinn in the 90s, but could an AGM/Coach role still work? It's an interesting idea.

It'd be an outside the box idea

That being said, it it were to be made known he were available he'd have many teams after him and I'd be surprised if he picked us

  19. 5-3 Penguins Crosby He always seems to produce against us and I reckon this one will be no different
  20. Rangers ship sailed when they signed Trocheck, they've got UFA's and RFA's to extend and not a whole lot of cap flex regarding their larger deals If Miller didn't have the extension coming that'd be one thing but they don't have room for his incoming 8M per https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/rangers
