  1. It's not that we've acquired a D it's what we paid for him and the style of D he plays I'd have been happy bringing in a more defense first oriented guy for less
  2. My initial take is that I'm not thrilled with this move. I hate giving up high picks and now we're out both a 1st and a 2nd. Another management group that talks about wanting to acquire picks who turns around and flips them out, the more things change the more they stay the same. But we'll see where we stand after the deadline, after the draft, and going into next season's camp. But yeah, not thrilled right now as he's not even a defensive specialist and our inability to stop teams from scoring goals is what's really done us in this season. Hopefully there's more coming.
  3. Doubling down on their strength instead of adding a forward eh? He could help their struggling powerplay. Was wondering where he'd end up.
  4. I may or may not have planned to use it on a recurring basis
  5. Sounds like a game of chicken between our management and Pittsburgh's, wonder who will cave or of it'll just fizzle out It's an interesting time of year for hockey at least
  6. Was hoping someone would claim McGinn, ahh well. Makes sense that nobody would be doing anyone any favours this time of year.
  7. And Ceulemans. On one hand it speaks to how bad they've been, on the other hand it speaks to why it's better to bottom out than be mediocre and caught in no man's land.
  8. Pretty much. Just because folks propose things or argue this or that doesn't necessarily mean they believe any of it'll happen. It's just part of being on a hockey forum. It's why we have a proposals section at all.
  9. It'd be cool to see for Columbus honestly, because of their history of not being competitive they have a similar issue to Winnipeg, they have a tough time attracting and retaining players. With Winnipeg it's more about it being Winnipeg than their being competitive. That'd be a good, young D core for sure. With Boqvist to round things out. If they can get some lottery luck this year they may have a very bright future. Young talent on the roster, some talented vets, good prospect depth with some real blue chip guys mixed in. Columbus fans are no strangers to suffering, it'd be cool to see them catch a break if we don't get any lottery luck.
  10. Sure, but we've got 50+ years of history and this is the most we've had in the first four rounds after all this time? Speaks to the building strategy we've employed over the years.
  11. I've been following the team since the early 2000's and they've yet to do an actual as long as I've been tracking them I've argued it before, Benning's goal was always to be competitive and to try and make the playoffs, it just so happened that he came into an organization devoid of youth, picks, and prospects and wasn't really able to reach his goal We weren't trying to tank, we weren't really rebuilding, we just sucked and we were a team caught in no man's land They've definitely shown a willingness to acquire picks which is a nice change of pace For all the fussing about Motte last year and some of the response to Schenn being moved this year it's really nice to see after multiple management groups that made a habit of holding on to pieces too long I reckon Schenn will be back, I thought he'd bring back a 2nd but another 3rd is just great The more bullets you've got at the draft the more likely you get a hit with one of them
  12. Different scenario, all of Malkin, Crosby, and Letang are productive and playing well, I'd say Pittsburgh has better roster depth too After yesterday's trade with Toronto it looks like Washington is eying more of a retool while keeping an eye on the future Which seems like the route to go with Ovi, Backstrom, and Kuznetsov still up front
  13. I was under the impression Power can play both sides and doesn't Dahlin play RD? Capfriendly has him listed as both but I was pretty sure he's primarily an RD. As for Ottawa, perhaps Chychrun or someone else switches sides? Capfriendly has Chychrun listed as being being RD/LD. I think Columbus sold Gavrikov to give up assets for Chychrun, def an upgrade for them. They won't give up their own 1st as it's a lottery pick but they could give up LA's plus Sillinger, Cuelemans, Mateychuk, ect. It won't be Jiricek and it's unlikely to be Johnson but they've got prospects for sure.
  14. Low risk add, pending UFA Hasn't provided a ton of offense this season but he adds depth
