  1. Ovechkin is heating up, another two goals so far today. He's right behind Matthews and Pastrnak.
  2. There is reason to trade Loui for Backes though, their contracts are structured differently. Backes has one year remaining while Loui has two. If we were to trade for Backes and buy him out he'd cost us 4m in cap space next season and 1m the year after. If we were to buy out Eriksson he'd cost us 5.6M next season, 3.6m the year after and just over 650k a year for the two following years. Or we could just use Backes next season and be free of his cap hit altogether the following season.
  3. I'm not overly concerned about having a guy who will throw, we've got a bunch of large bodies up front and on the back end and fighting has been on the decline for years. I'd be more concerned about what we'd have to give up to get him and make the cap work along with adding another body to an already crowded forward group.
  4. We're not contenders or team that people assume should make the playoffs, we're a team fighting tooth and nail to try and get in. We're a team still in it's development stages, a time on the rise. Depth acquisition is important but the main avenue of doing that should probably still be the draft or UFA at this point. Our prospect depth is better than it's ever been, but that's honestly not saying much considering our history. We've been pretty lucky that injuries haven't hit our top offensive guys too hard, but like Oldnews said, our depth players have taken a beating this season. We've got serviceable depth right now though, so I wouldn't be surprised for JB to check in with other GM's, find the asks are too high, and stand pat until the draft.
  5. Are we sleeping on Kole Lind? 35 points in 41 games. Comets are certainly scoring this year. https://theahl.com/stats/player-stats/390/65

Those who follow the prospects section are pretty up to date, but considering his production in his second full season I don't hear about him a whole lot elsewhere

He's been good this year. He could be great if he starts scoring goals like his most recent. That was a true flashback to his junior days.

If his shot becomes as lethal as it was in juniors then watch out because we'll have a top 6 winger

The Canucks are doing the right thing. Giving him a ton of ice time. And flourishing in the AHL.

Don't worry he will be up playing sooner rather than later.

I just hope Gads also finds his stride too.

  6. To be fair, Edmonton doesn't have a very good track record of structuring their team well.
  7. If Montreal was willing to retain on either player they could do better than that. Marky's a pending ufa, Sutter's a cap dump, Myers is okay and the other two are potential at this point. Kovalchuk also holds value given his cap hit, not sure why they'd throw him in. Particularly with Weber, they could easily find a home for him if they retained cap.
  8. I feel they'd have to add though, they're desperate for D right now with the injuries they've got and everyone knows it. I could see Edmonton and Calgary both vying for Zucker, which helps Minny.
  9. I've advocated trading Loui for Backes in the past. Backes has a friendlier buyout. But Loui's admittedly looked pretty solid of late. I'd still do it though.
  10. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the ask were closer to both. It's easier to find wingers than young, talented D of his skill. He's on a friendly contract too. I agree with this, I know it's been said JB wants to add another top 6 piece but we're not quite at the place where we should be "buyers" yet imo. I understand wanting to take advantage of our ELC's but we don't have the cap space or prospect depth. Our cupboard is waaaay better than it was but I'd be loathe to move our blue chip pieces. I hate to say it, but that makes a lot of sense for both sides. Helps that they're in separate conferences too.
  11. They act like everyone's just going to forget when both teams are scheduled to play a couple more times after this next game.
  12. I don't like the token representation bit, but Arizona didn't have a representative so that likely factors in
  13. Arizona doesn't have a representative, this makes sense
  14. This is absolutely massive, we really need this win. Any game against the Coyotes/Oilers/Flames is huge at this point. Vegas too.
  15. Wow, sounds like that was a helluva game. At least they pulled off the win in the end.
  16. Wild, what a weird moving considering how Vegas is clearly still in the playoff race Wonder where he ends up I'd love to bring him in as an assistant but someone will scoop him up
