  1. More of the same then Sounds good to me, I'll take 0-0 after one over being down a goal or three
  2. How have we looked? I'm too busy trying to pick away at English to watch
  3. It's definitely possible that he'll just sit out indefinitely or that they'll work their $&!# out. And you're likely right in that we'd have to add for LA to consider a swap, especially being divisional rivals. I'm just not sure it'd be as big an add as people might expect given that they'll be sitting a healthy player they're getting absolutely nothing out of.
  4. It depends on who else is interested in Kovalchuk and what LA would have to take back. Kovalchuk's on their books whether he plays or not thanks to that 35+ contract. Even if he retires his cap will still factor. In Loui they'd at least have someone who could help prevent goals against and a body one the ice. If LA's truly not interested in playing Kovalchuk something's gonna have to give eventually, you don't pay someone a shade over 6.2 to sit indefinitely when they're healthy. Lot of teams are in a cap crunch, LA's probably looking at a sideways move at best.
  5. Ilya's always been a goal scorer, that's his calling card. But he's historically had good hands and passing ability. He's big at 6'3" and used to have blazing speed but he's slowed with age. In spite of his size he's not a gritty, physical player though he's certainly capable of throwing a hit. When he initially retired he was exactly a point per game if I remember correctly. I'm no LA fan so I can't comment on his defensive play but I recall him being a regular pk'er for the Devils. He's a shooter, though his current stats don't indicate that. He's historically been a skill guy, so in order to get the most out of him he'd probably have to be played in a top 6 role. His future depends on where he wants to go, he's got a NMC and controls his destiny whether LA plays him or not. He's also got a 35+ contract so LA's currently stuck with his cap hit even if he decides to say &^@# the NHL and retire again. He'd probably do fine on a more talented team. The key would be expecting an older Iyla Kovalchuk and not what he was during his prime.
  6. We're due for a win, here's hoping we can light up Nashville tonight

I want a return to that earlier season magic pouring in goals!

For real though, this not scoring bit blows

  7. Good point, I'd forgotten he was 35 when he signed.
  8. It's gotten to the point where most of us expect little to no offense from Loui but most recognize the defensive game that has always been a calling card of his. Kovalchuk on the other hand has proven offensive chops at the NHL and KHL levels. He's got a year less on his contract but it's a 35+ contract. One could argue that Kovalchuk's production is in part a reflection of the team he's on, LA has scored 43 goals which is only more than Detroit (42), New Jersey (42) and Columbus (40). The Kings are not a good team and they lack depth up front and on the back end, their primary offensive drivers ain't getting any younger either with Kopitar (32), Kovalchuk (36), Brown (35) and Carter (34) leading the charge. Almost nobody's looked good in LA this season. Both players would have to agree to any trade. I also question what it'd take for us to get LA to swallow an extra year of Eriksson. Loui pro's -Defensive game -Decent speed -Swedish -The devil we know -Has by all indication been a good teammate in spite of him butting heads with Green a bit Loui con's -His offensive game has clearly deteriorated, why is a matter of debate but I'll point fingers at age and injuries -One more year than Kovalchuk -He's got a NTC -Age Kovalchuk pro's -He's got a history of producing at the NHL and KHL level -One year less than Loui -Kovalchuk con's -Age -Questionable speed -Where does he fit if he isn't productive -NMC -35+ contract
  9. It's a shame he chose to sign with LA, had he signed out east he'd likely have found success. He's a talented guy and was one of the most consistent players of his generation prior to his retirement in Jersey. Hell, he was extremely productive in the KHL too. LA was trending down before he got there and their style of play never really matched the game he's always liked to play.
  10. I hate to say it, but if some of their younger guys continue to develop well the Canes could be a force out East in a few years. I hope they eat rocks and flounder but they could be a force.
  11. Imma just leave this here. Be interesting to see if anything comes of it. It'll easily break the number it wants. Doubt it though. The majority of those who could be bothered to sign are unlikely to stop watching/following hockey over this. https://www.change.org/p/sportsnet-and-the-cbc-bring-back-don-cherry?recruiter=56310586&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&recruited_by_id=95a2bb90-cd5e-0130-f3a3-3c764e0491eb&utm_content=fht-18938194-en-ca%3Av12
  12. I'm hoping Roussel can come back soon, Ferland too. We're really missing what they bring to this club. Same goes for Motte. Having those three in the lineup would make this team more of a handful for opposing teams.
  13. I wish they'd let Cherry go another day. I've seen and heard more about Don Cherry today than I have about Remembrance Day in general.

Actually I couldn’t think of a better exit for Cherry.  He can consider himself a martyr being fired in a good cause defending “the Canadian way” by a bunch of commie rats back East.

      Sarcasm on or off?

I'm not getting drawn into the murky and often personal politics of it all. It's not worth the hassle. The issue I take with it all is that things went down on Remembrance Day and I heard and saw faarrrrr more about Don Cherry than I did about Remembrance Day.

They could have let the $&!# show take place a day later. Remembrance Day comes once a year, they should have let it be.

I agree Coconuts, for them to use Rememberance Day to shame Cherry wasn't right IMO. He was complaining about not enough people wearing a poppy on Rememberance Day, and then they fire him for complaining about it. It didn't come across very well, the words used, but then again, Don Cherry isn't an educated man. He speaks from the heart. He always has, whether we agree with him or not.

Yeee, it's a hidden gem of theirs. I've always appreciated how they put the lyrics together.

  15. No worries I feel they got this one right, but the NHL is inconsistent with it's punishments at the best of times Maybe Lucic got lucky with the spinning wheel of NHL justice
  16. From that angle, yes. But if you look at 0:30 of the video onward it shows that he was tracking the puck and focused on flipping it into the offensive zone up until the last second before the collision. Maybe I'm off base? Regardless though, he was in a vulnerable position and it was on Foligno to hit him square.
  17. Foligno was in control that scenario. Bellemare got the puck after it was bounced off the boards and was trying to keep the puck away from the Columbus player in pursuit and had no idea Foligno was there. He didn't have his head down, Foligno simply caught him with a blindside hit. Short of having a second set of eyes in the side/back of his head he couldn't have been prepared. In that scenario it's on Foligno to make the clean hit if he's going to throw a hit. It's an extremely fast game, but you can't hit a guy in the head. If Foligno had lined him up properly all that would have likely resulted is a scrum and maybe a fight.
  18. Didn't take long for this one to go sideways. Yikes.
  19. They got this one right I think. He's got not a dirty player and he doesn't have a history of this sort of thing as far as I remember. It's a fast game but this still can't happen. If this had happened to one our boys I'd have been screaming bloody murder.
  20. The champs looking to add some heavy depth, never a bad idea.
  21. This thread is gonna be fun. It's gonna be weird not having him around anymore. It was going to happen eventually, he's held up pretty well physically but he's pretty ancient nowadays. Probably should have retired years ago, but at the same time hockey's been a huge part of his life and it's tough to let that sort of thing go. It's a shame he didn't step down on his own terms but what's done is done.
  22. I get what you're saying, and I agree to an extent. But given how Green's handled the media during his time here it's also what I expect, he doesn't give them much. I've always been under the impression that if he's gonna be frustrated and call his team on things he's gonna do it with his team in a setting where there aren't media and cameras. The Van media takes anything remotely negative and runs with it, so maybe it's not a bad approach.
  23. Toronto lost, Boston lost. Anaheim losing helps us in a way, but I hate seeing Edmonton succeed. I hope the wheels fall off for them soon.
