      And now my debt amount is pretty much doubled because I transferred to a more expensive school, and the future pain of paying it back is sampled by the head-bashing-against-wall methodology of the process

      Back in the 90's the student loan fiasco basically screwed the future generations of having any real funds allocated without signing away your first born :(
