I'd sooner put him on Richardson's wing with Hansen or Higgins.

I agree, that contract is very achievable for the Canucks. What I think Tanev wants is 2 years, maybe even cheap at 1.2M. But the problem is Gillis can't take that risk, because if he does, and Tanev shows he is worth ~3M a year at the end of those 2 years, we will struggle to fit him under the cap while we have 4 top for D at 4.5+. And, if Tanev does show he compares to 3M cap hit defensemen, as a UFA, he's going to want a long term. That pushes his salary up a bit because of cap inflation and his entering his prime. Maybe ~4M over 5 years. Meanwhile, Corrado is up for a new contract, yet we still have Hamhuis and Bieksa with NTC's. That means one of Tanev or Corrado have to go in two years if Tanev signs a two year deal right now. Best case scenario for the Canucks is Tanev signs a deal for three years, with enough flexibility to resign Corrado during that period, because "we need to get younger." Then when Tanev resigns, we part ways with either Hamhuis or Bieksa, if it makes sense. My guess is Tanev is pushing for a high salary in that third year, something like 5M over 3 years ( a 1.7M cap hit) or 1.25 over 2 years.

Bieksa has an NTC. Tanev nor Corrado will play in the top 4 in the next three years without us paying our bottom pairing upwards of 5M. If I was Gillis, I'd be trying to give Tanev 3 years at ~1.5, so that we have 2 spots in the top 4 between him, Corrado, Hamhuis, and Bieksa. Tanev probably doesn't want to take a 3rd year at a salary he is likely to outperform, even as early as next year, just because our top 4 are immovable. Like you said, he probably wants one or two years, but at that point we will be unable to afford him.
-
why would tanev want to sign here? top 4 is set long term with nmc/ntc's. he probably wants to get on a team that gives him the TOI so he can develop. the canucks are too competitive to try Tanev on the PP. The few times I have seen him get time, he is too tentative and lacks confidence. He'll never get the chance here, and he missed a big chunk of his development in Junior. Being a good skating defenseman with strong passing and good vision, there's reason to believe he could develop that offensive side of his game, but I doubt it happens in a Canucks uniform.

and shinkaruk and kassian are assumed to be 1st liners?

So what's your argument then? You've said you are unhappy with our players getting bumped down the depth chart because of Wolves signees, but you are happy with the coach the Canucks appointed that is playing them over our prospects? If you trust the coach, then maybe he's got a reason to not play our players?

I don't see why Schroeder can't take Hodgson's place on the third line. Hodgson wasn't very good defensively. He wasn't physical, he didn't have game breaking speed to put pressure on defenders, and he was slow on the back check. He was fairly good for a rookie, but he wasn't really anything to brag about. If people are going to use the angle that Schroeder doesn't have the size to be our third line centre, it is important to note then that neither did Hodgson. Granted he wasn't a "checking centre," but his biggest knock defensively was his lack of speed. If anything, Schroeder could be more physical player because he has great speed. If Schroeder can win faceoffs and play hard on the forecheck and back check, he'd probably even see PK time. Having a 3rd line center who can't play on the PK is a huge team weakness. I think that given the sheltered minutes AV gave Hodgson last season, Schroeder would post similar numbers to Hodgson's, and that he would be able to earn more minutes on the PK.

I'm scared of him anyways. Having some time since the playoffs to relax and think, I am pretty happy that Kassian didn't try too hard to be the size we need. He wasn't trying to pick fights or to protect the Sedins or anything. Honestly, that probably would have been a baaaad idea. He seems to understand the fact that he has a lot to learn before he can be an impact player, and that he can get a lot stronger. All in all, the whole point of this trade is that we now have someone who has the size the Canucks feel they need to win, and he has a brain and offensive skill to boot. Now we just have to wait and see if he's got an NHL work ethic to carry him through the years.

name me 3 canucks' prospects in the last 10 years that have been killed by this microscope.

Great first game. Really impressed. His touch passes were awesome tonight. Whoever said he doesn't have a head for the game probably watched him in a weak system. I hope he can keep this up and that he doesn't lose focus.

great vid buddayyy! spam/promote all you want if it means more videos of our prospects for me! Footage is hard to come by, so it's much appreciated.

Well, he did have a bit of help from Henrik. But only a little bit. His he only had 3 more PP goals than the year previous. Anyways, I think you are right about Raymond. I think he's starting to look like a great 3rd liner. I almost feel as if he'll score more if he just stops trying so hard. He's gotta let the game come to him more or something. I hope Samuelsson's floating was due to his injuries. Hopefully he can stay healthy. In the finals, I think we missed him more than he gets credit for.
-
So who's our top six? Kesler, Raymond, Samuelsson? On an moderately related note, yeesh, with Sammy and Raymond's contracts expiring this coming season, we need some of these young guys to start pushing; if they don't, we'll have to turn them into second liners via trade Edit: HAAAA. . . just read your post in Cody's thread, Dasein. How is "Dasein" pronounced anyways?

Doubt this is much of a concern for a guy Rodin's age, but if this has been going on for a while, hopefully he won't be more susceptible to shoulder injuries in the future.
-
Oh thats good to hear, thanks!

Isn't Jensen supposedly a softy? I read that he uses his size to his advantage offensively, but his size isn't much of a factor on defense. I suppose that can be learned in a couple years time, though. I see Jensen on the third line like a Bernier on the 3rd line, whereas Rodin could be more like a Hansen. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately, who knows what tickles your fancy) Hodgson would be a Wellwood.

It's pretty difficult to translate SEL to NHL. Anything before camp is going to be mostly speculation; even then, camp isn't the best indicator. From my understanding, he has to get better in all areas to be in the NHL, but he's one of our few prospects who has good offensive potential AND who can also make the team earlier on as a checker. That's what most people are excited about, especially since Hodgson, Schroeder, and now Jensen are more "second line or bust." From the very limited chance I've seen him play (mostly world Jr.'s and highlights, which isn't very great) I'd say he's got a well-rounded skill set that is hard to contain, and because of that, he creates some chances by using his strong skating and strong puck possession to play aggressive and to take the puck to the harder areas for his teammates. He can get a quick shot off, and he can pass fairly well. Really, it seems like he's just got to develop the skills he has and bring them to an NHL level. I don't think there's any "glaring" deficiencies. Where's johanlake anyways?

I see no problem with him getting a few games.

Interesting. I think the "fantastic camp" comes from the fact our lineup is already enough of a log jam. Sedins - Burrows; Higgins - Kesler - Sturm; Samuelsson - Malhotra - Hansen; Oreskovich - LaPierre - ——— .So unless some of these guys are injured in October, it's going to be difficult, especially since Raymond and Hodgson are both out of that lineup, and since B. Sweatt deserves a good look too. I would consider Rodin outplaying Hodgson, B. Sweatt, and Sturm/Samuelsson a fantastic camp.
-
unless he has an incredible camp!
-
Always the cheeky one, aren't we? I really like Rodin. He seems like a guy with a pretty solid toolbox, and I could see Vigneault taking a quick liking to him. Strong, two-way coaching will do him a world of good, and I think the coaching staff will recognize him as a very coachable, malleable player. That said, he's gotta get by a strong Billy Sweatt right now, so he's definitely got competition for training camp (along with our deep, deep forward depth.) Out of training camp, close to 0% sounds fair. But yes, never say never. If he makes it out of training camp, I'm sure it will be a pleasant surprise for us all.
