Xi and his minions should be overthrown. Their trajectory seems to be that of an authoritarian empire with sociopathic designs for everything from governance to the environment.

The country deserves better than the garbage in charge. Hopefully more people can learn to separate this despicable government’s actions from the average person of Chinese extraction who has little to no say into how their government operates on a daily basis.

Correct however the Chinese government has been garbage long before Jingping. The people of China deserve to be free.

Lol good luck nothing. The Western world could bankrupt China by saying we aren't buying your cheap junk. I also think the US will take steps to never let China be number one including a military conflict. China threatening Taiwan might be the trigger for that. China has to be very careful as they also have a fued on going with India.

Currently selling 3.5 million boe/day to the USA. Line 3 upgrade still going. Venezula has to get refined product from Iran now as their production has cratered. IMHO the Americans will want AB oil whether Biden is POTUS or not. The #1 Canadian need is crude access to the West coast. Sell to world markets when the USA wants to screw us on price.

That's why TMX isn't enough. I understand the sensitivity in northern BC so get EE done. East coast also has refineries. Win win

if there's an environmental angle to it why is that so bad?

Because it's likely deliberately out of reach.

So you may not be hooped but it could kinda suck...

Would you say most in AB hope for a DT re-election based on that?

    Absolutely.

Once it's built who cares after that.

  5. 1 hour ago, Jimmy McGill said:

I don't even know what that means. You've said many times there's "nothing" for AB but thats just not true.

I get the sentiment that its never going to be enough, people in AB think that they've "given" so much to Canada it can never be repaid no matter what.

Then read up on it, Jim.

    That money has stipulations.

    1 hour ago, bishopshodan said:

    It's lame and unacceptable.

There is some anger towards AB but I was also pointing out that there is currently anger towards people travelling in general. It could have happened to a vehicle with any out-of-bc plates.

That said, I would lay bets on it being someone rev'd up about the same stuff you guys go round and round about here on cdc.

I haven't been following any separation talk lately.  I hear Biden is not a fan of tar sands/ pipelines etc. If AB separates and a dude like Biden is control down south....are you guys hooped?

No, just keep selling at a discount but save 20 billion, not ideal but chances are pretty low old sleepy wins.

    Details of the Aid Package

    The relief measures include:

    1.  Providing up to $1.7 billion in funding to the governments of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia to clean up orphan and/or inactive oil and gas well sites.

    2.  Establishing a $750 million Emission Reduction Fund (“ERF”) to be managed by Natural Resources Canada.

    3.  Expanding eligibility for the Business Credit Availability Program to support at-risk medium-sized energy companies and help them maintain operations and keep their employees on the job.

In respect of the credit support being offered to at-risk medium-sized energy companies, the federal government will be expanding the eligibility for the Business Credit Availability Program announced on March 13, 2020.  This support will be available to medium-sized businesses with larger financing needs, beginning with companies in Canada’s energy sector, to help them maintain operations and keep their employees on the job.  Through the Business Credit Availability Program, the Business Development Bank of Canada and Export Development Canada will provide up to $65 billion in direct lending and other types of financial support, such as loan guarantees and co-lending programs for small and medium enterprises.

Ya and I'm sure the environmental loophole will screw Alberta.

    nice clarification

I was watching the Suncor CEO a couple of weeks back, saying it was a good thing. He also stated that the industry didn't need a cash handout, it needs new market access.

    Which is what TMX is.

Its funny to me that you guys never look to place blame anywhere but Ottawa. Ottawa didn't hire a Texan to dismantle Encana piece by piece.

and we're back to the root of the problem. You guys are so obsessed with Ottawa and Quebec you aren't thinking clearly.

Of course it was a good thing.

I never said cash handout and he certainly doesn't speak for the companies on the verge of bankruptcy.

Also we have been saying new market access for over a decade, almost two now, still nothing.

Ottawa is the ones who make policies that hurt Alberta.

18 minutes ago, Jimmy McGill said:

Suncor CEO says its not needed.

I agree on EE, it should be a no-brainer.

I don't care what he says. He isn't the energy industry, he is a guy running a giant company.

  8. @Jimmy McGill given Trudeau is spending like oil patch workers on their week off and has a 20 point lead why not prepare a loan guarantee package for the industry? Even restart energy east, with private investors and provincial ownership?

Nobody wants to be PM when a province calls for a referendum which Kenney may be forced to do even though he opposes it.

The two modest things I proposed would probably have those on the fence change their minds.

  9. 14 minutes ago, Jimmy McGill said:

yup theres a major obsession with Quebec. Are you really trying to say there isn't?

    Hatred.

12 minutes ago, Jimmy McGill said:

But Alberta has been helped. Did you already forget about the billions for abandoned wells? TMX?

Kenney's newest anger flag is going to be delayed until he needs to whip it up again. But... I suppose it could get leaked as well, I can imagine some on that panel not being very pleased with Kenney.

The abandoned well money was nice but it wasn't what the industry needed. That was more of a move to get green votes. TMX wasn't a favour to Alberta, you guys, especially you need to stop saying that. Private investors finally walked away from the project and that hurt investment in Canada as many see Canada as a waste of time.

Of course some aren't pleased..his catering to Ottawa is unacceptable.

  10. 15 minutes ago, Jimmy McGill said:

not surprising to me at all. I'd guess the hard core separation folks are somewhere in the 20%'s and the rest want to create their own version of the Bloc. Albertans are obsessed with Quebec so I could see a majority voting for a Bloc-style separation party thinking they'd get what they see as similar preferential treatment to Quebec.

Obsessed with the welfare state of Quebec.

I guess it's similar to the Trump obsession on CDC?

  11. 6 minutes ago, Jimmy McGill said:

he doesn't need it as a distraction / anger generation tool at the moment. It would be a waste of effort to put it out now.

Notley said the panel was never on an earnest fact-finding mission, but rather served as a shiny bauble for Kenney to deflect attention.

“The panel and the report is mostly a political tool that Jason Kenney put into play… to try to distract people’s frustration and anger from the fact that he was not actually creating jobs,” she said.

“He was losing jobs well before the pandemic.”

    https://globalnews.ca/news/6971513/alberta-fair-deal-panel-report-notley-kenney-covid-19-coronavirus/

Notley is a moron. He did what Albertans wanted, which is unusual for politicians, especially him.

Imo he isn't releasing it because he wants help from Ottawa which won't happen.

    He should release it immediately.

  12. 43 minutes ago, Boudrias said:

I see Kenney is refusing to release the report studying Alberta's place in/out of Canada. I do think he is on a short leash and Wexit will challenge him next election. I see the LPC and the NDP combined to keep Parliament shutdown. This country hits new lows everyday that JT is in power. While these politicians sit in their basements the working people of this country go to work.

Yes he is and it's very frustrating.

Keeping the HOC closed is odd and now the bloc slammed the government for it.

Even the PBO has said all this spending and extra powers to the government without parliament oversight is concerning.

  13. 9 hours ago, bishopshodan said:

Was it more than one coward? Could have been just one loser.

You mean the dude that moved to BC that got his vehicle keyed right?

Maybe not some much an act of anger towards Alberta but towards people that are travelling right now?

Still, very lame and a criminal act.

That's the funniest part is he lives in BC. According to warhippy this has happened a few times because he said this before the story came out. BC has not closed it's borders so people are free to travel there. What's even worse is BC is one of the provinces Alberta donated medical supplies to..

Flu is a yearly occurence with vaccine options. The population has a subset that's immune to certain strains. It has a lower incubation period so you know you have it faster and can stay home. It's also not as deadly. Current medical systems can easily handle the annual flu.

CoViD is novel, we didn't know much about it early other than it was spreading rapidly. There's no immunity in the population and had a R0 above 1 so it spread quick and can easily overwhelm medical systems.

The strain on health care is probably the key.

Thanks. However what if covid19 is the new norm?

How come China welded their citizens doors shut to keep them quarantined? How come people died on hospital floors and in the streets when the hospitals were overrun? How come they had to build massive make shift hospitals to take care of the overflow? Nobody knows? It's a complete freakin mystery?

You should read some of the studies coming out. The mortality rate is very low and the sheep buy it hook, line and sinker.

Pretty much it.   No one ready knows what will happen in the future.   The politicians are really winging it.   I saw an article the other day saying an effective vaccine will never be developed and covid 19 will be among us forever like the flu.  If that is the case, what next?   You can't have a lockdown forever.

Probably just continue life as it is. The mortality rate is very low. BC's recent studies were very telling.

On Friday I went on a walk toward downtown Toronto for the first since my last Corona beer back in mid-March.

    Destination: Staples.

    List of items: yes.

For the most part, I felt safe. I’d say the Friday afternoon density looked like that of a Sunday afternoon.

80-85% of everyone regardless of category wore a mask. The walk was also through Chinatown, where I’d say 90-95% wore masks.

I noticed two types not wearing masks: those who were embarrassed by not having a mask, and surely will get one very soon, and those who were categorically and proudly defiant.

Out of that category, most were in their early 20’s or mid 50’s, which really took me aback.

Both women and men were displaying this “affront” in their deviance, as if we’re all wrong.

In terms of which culture was more defiant, nothing really struck me as more or less defiant. However, by going through Chinatown, it is obvious that people there know what’s going on.

Seriously? I'm out and about every day. Work, leisure, travel, etc.

Never wear a mask or gloves.
