  1. I watched this game and all its intensity. Those teams were trying to kill each other. I then watched a bit of the third period of the Kraken/Aves game. Hell I'm 75 and I might have been able to sneak over the boards and pick up a shift. Soft as butter those teams. I will say this, #19 on the Panthers team is pretty good value for the next 7 years, win or lose this series. Who would have thought Ullmark would turn into a sieve in the playoffs? Goaltending, goaltending! Plus I think Maurice out coached the Bruins guy.
  2. I've never been a season ticket holder until this year. I like an owner who is active in the community, (the SFU debacle) included. Doman is at least trying to get butts into the seats. Fingers crossed this will be a good season for the Lions.
  3. You mean where the Suns play? Weren't the ends shaped oddly? Like as in not rounded corners suitable for the game of hockey. Edit is see you are referring to the one in Glendale. Wouldn't you say the economy collapsed in every NHL market? Let's face it Arizona won't support a team, and yes I'm surprised how well Vegas has done. But, look at the Panthers, the Ducks, they draw family and friends.
  4. ...and how has that worked out? Who knows if this new arena in Arizona is going to go ahead. If it doesn't, I don't see them staying in Arizona, but then I thought that when they were located in Glendale.
  5. All those billionaires go to Gov'ts for handouts, and that same mob went to the City of Calgary, Alberta, and the Feds recently and were rejected. I have always praised the Griffiths in the day when they build the current arena in Vancouver, but, they got the land for a buck. I'm not sure of the cost to build Rogers at the time, but, it overextended them. That, and owning an NHL and NBA franchise. Arizona has been a debacle from the get go. Why has it taken so long? Shouldn't the NHL have done it's due diligence to begin with? They haven't had proper ownership, an arena, or a fanbase from the beginning. Hell, more fans from Vancouver go to their games than Coyote fans, at least that was the case when the Canucks were on the top of the League.
  6. That was one of the things that stood out to me as well. Didn't Messier also live in Blaine WA, when he spent 3 years going through the motions here?
  7. No he shouldn't have, any surgery takes longer to heal than 4 months, especially pro athletes.
  8. Demko shouldn't have been playing at the beginning of the season, he hadn't fully recovered from his hip surgery.
  9. I too, hope this is the beginning of an NHL career for him. If not out of training camp, but at least a look in case of injuries. People seem to think that kids that play defense can make the jump from junior to the NHL right away. All we have to do is look at the Canucks and their choices of first rounders since 1970. Few have made the jump and played long careers before fading off into oblivion. Finally the Canucks have a development program in their farm team. Hell, it only took 50 years.
  10. The need for some "bigs" wasn't mentioned by either of these two. Against bigger teams, like the LAK, Vegas, Boston, Tampa, Flames (yes those Flames), Carolina, NYR, and the Oilers, their back end isn't big enough, and the forwards aren't big enough to win puck battles. This team has to get bigger and how they do it doesn't matter. Building through the draft is going to take a few more years of development, so it will have to be through the trade route. The Canucks had their way with the bottom feeders of the League, but to get to the next level is a whole new ballgame.
  11. Was he not papered down? Too bad about Brisbois, he didn't look out of place with the big club.
  12. I had forgotten that OEL broke his foot at the Worlds, could explain why he wasn't in good shape to begin the season. I also want to see a "healthy" Mikheyev, we sure never saw any of that top end speed in his game at all. Depending on how well Abby does in their playoffs, players who might get a legit shot at a roster spot, Karlsson, Raty, Hoglander, Podz, and maybe Bains might get a look. I certainly hope these guys can displace the Dries, Studnicka's, Kravstov's on the roster this season. That means moving out Garland, AB, and possibly Boeser.
  13. Their D zone play wasn't too bad under Walker and his name escapes me, in fact the entire team game came on when the three of them were hired.
  14. No one in this market knew what the Canucks had in Kuzmenko, and for him to come in and get 39 goals is free money. RT should have swallowed his pride and let him go crazy and get 40+. I really do think this team needs size, speed and skill, and I've repeatedly said this. Those fire drill episodes were still on display against bigger teams like Vegas, LAK, Minnesota, and Calgary recently, and often too. Lots of work to do, but singling out Kuz isn't the way I'd go about it. Especially when Miller, BB, Myers, and OEL were regular turnover machines all season. I really hope they don't break the kid, because this team is going to need goal scoring among many other things, to succeed.
  15. Now that's two different things. Is it Tocchet's system that he doesn't get or Tocchet can't get to him? Or is it that he's not in NHL shape? I find that hard to believe when we see him lose checks in the corner, behind the net, and do give and goes with EP. This sounds like a personality conflict with the coach.
  16. Is that the issue? He looks pretty fit to me. He's not Quinn Hughes fit, but....who is?
  17. I know we've been debating this between us for quite a bit now. Alf, I don't see a "system" that's any different than in previous coaches. This team had what 30 some odd games under Tocchet and his two rookie coaches, yet we continue to see Demko bailing out fire drills, turnovers, passes into the middle of the ice, and plain old brain farts. He's walking a fine line between having a legitimate scoring threat get benched for an entire period. Or, dropped to the 3rd line and second unit power play, when others are promoted that do the same, turnovers, blind passes, etc. He had a legitimate shot at 40 goals, and for a team that has had nothing to cheer about, especially after the debacle of last summer going into training camp. I agree this team needs a system, but, what is this system?
  18. They've gotten very old, very quickly! I quess they got one really good year out of Tanev if that's any consolation.
  19. I had wondered why I never saw my neighbour out and about walking his dog. He's like clockwork. Turns out he contracted Covid, and yes he's had 5 shots. He's my age, mid to late 70's, seemingly in good health, exercises daily. He said for one day he felt like he'd been run over by a truck, but the next day he was on the mend. He isn't the only person I know of that's been hit by Covid. It's still around us, and luckily the majority of us are vaccinated.
