  1. All of these comments and many more. Generations cannot be compared fairly. I grew up watching 60's hockey, Hull, Howe, Mahovlich, who morphed into Orr, Park, Clark, who morphed into the mid 70's Habs and Islander teams, then came Gretzky, Kurri, Coffey. Then came Lemieux. To think that Gordie Howe played in the NHL for 4 decades, shows you how great an athlete he was. Gretzky 20 seasons. I forget the name of the TV show where top athletes would compete in athletic events, he (Gretzky) was far and away the best of the best. One thing for certain, today's players are better trained, eat healthier, more skilled, are better equipped, and have superior coaching. Or, are they overcoached, over trained, and, more suspect to injury? Not many of the highly talented players in the last 20 years have been the best for as long as previous generations. Look no further than Crosby and Malkin, Toews, Stamkos among them. These top 50 lists aren't and never will be accurate, but, having seen the game played since the 60's, a healthy Orr, Gretzky, a healthy Lemieux, are top 3 by far. It's not even close. Could you imagine those three playing the game with no red line, all three would have over 100 assists regularly. Just my opinion.
  2. They better hope they get all the power play chances then. 5 v 5, they aren't that good. Their defense isn't Cup winning calibre, and Smith can be lit up pretty good too. The dropoff from McDavid and Draistl is like the Grand Canyon. Their third and fourth lines could be filled with any player in the NHL.
  3. I'm going to need a new TV, another effin pick prior to the Myers penalty, goes uncalled.
  4. Did anyone notice the pick on Schmidt by McJesus on Leon's first goal? No penalty, no call, but the march to 100 goes on.
  5. I see what you're saying, here's the but, these kids, (the vets) have been playing their sport at the highest level all of their competitive lives. It's not in their dna to quit or sit, or underperform. If I were a JT, Hughes, Edler, Myers, Horvat, Pearson, there is no way I'd be happy with that decision. But of course 2288, would, right?
  6. I liked Travis' testiness when responding to the scribes in the post game two nights ago regarding JT. But, that's just me!
  7. Lind looks top 9, but I would have no issue with him playing 4th line to begin the season. I like more of his game, each time I see him, he's improved. I'm guessing Pods will be slotted in the one of the first two lines. This season is a write off, I can't wait to see what's in store in the fall.
  8. In that sequence it was impossible, the Oilers ended up with the 5 on 3. The Canuck powerplay was non existent, true, but put Elias back in the lineup, and give them a few days practice, it might be a different situation. 19 games in 30 days doesn't allow that.
  9. Joe, last night, and the previous night, the Canucks played their butts off, for close to two periods. As you say, lack of top end talent, and lack of fumes kick in, game over. But, according to a few, this is the coaching staff's fault, and JB's as well. That virus caused the Sabres to go on a 16 game losing streak, and they weren't hit nearly as hard.
  10. I, as well said if the Canucks win 5 of the 19 games it would be considered a win, for what they had to go through. They aren't going to win 5 it looks like at this moment. You're right, starting on defense, let's see what Bowie, Chatfield, OJ, and now Rathbone can do in the lineup. The forwards like Gadjovich, Lind, and McEwen as well. Lind was breaking up plays, more aggressive on the puck for two periods, and was a net front presence with that line.
  11. This kid won't quit at all. He's getting his legs under himself, after going through Covid. Best game since the Canucks got back to play, or as SN called it, the Covid break.
  12. NHL refereeing, no penalties called, but then they called one on the Oilers, kinda missed a call on the same play to the Canucks, then bam, the Oilers have a 5 on three. Three ticky tack calls either missed or blown, but, hey let's manage this game properly right?
  13. Until I turned the game off at the end of the second, I thought Lind had played his best game by far of his stint with the Canucks. Body checking, more involved, pretty good skills, not bad speed at the NHL level. This team can play well for about a period and a half, then their experience and fatigue catch up to them. I hope Green keeps playing the youth though, this is an excellent view on what they have going forward. Yes, Rathbone doesn't look out of place either, nor does McEwen.
  14. Throw in a pandemic which hit this team harder than any pro team in Sport, and this is the record you'll get. 8 forwards who would be regulars on the roster missing from last nights game. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for this season.
  15. A few of us have stated the same message as you, the trolls don't give a damn about this team anyway so no use trying to give a rational argument.
  16. Any chance we get to see him (Rathbone) tonight? I believe Hughes should take a game off, he's bagged!
  17. A 56 game season at that. With according to the dopes at SN, a Covid break.
  18. Maybe we should open the Koltzov and Chubarov threads. The Canucks need players right? Tryamkin gets to play at home, and not disrupt his young family to play in a foreign land for the same money. Let's move on, I have.
  19. my opinion, neither Benning nor Green are going anywhere. This season has been anything but close to being routine or normal.
