  1. You've read me like a book. Although I do believe he will sign here, there is always that little feeling of doubt that is eating me on the inside. I'm trying to look strong on the surface and tell myself it will be fine. Thatcher is a massive piece for this franchise moving forward.
  2. It's going to be really fun around here to witness the reaction of some guys who have been freaking out over Demko when it's announced he is signed. Are you going to put down your pitchforks because Benning did good? If, the unlikely outcome of him deciding to not sign with the Canucks happens, I hope to god, and I know you won't think rationally then as you don't now, but I am hoping you realize it has nothing to do with the Canucks or Jim Benning, but rather with Thatcher and his right to determine his own career. Management have done everything to get him signed, and you can only do so much. I hope you voice your outlandish rage in the right direction if the unthinkable happens - which it won't.
  3. There are only a few teams I would consider not playing for and I think i'd voice that during any interviews before the draft. Despite me saying that, I think i could be easily convinced to play for the team that drafted me. I'm not Demko, or an NHL prospect for that matter but I think it depends on the type of person you are. It's a business at the end of the day. I am 95% sure Demko signs with the Canucks either this summer or the next, and if we lose him, tough luck, can't blame Benning for that.
  4. Again, it's not short sighted at all, if anything it's good for him in the long term both in hockey terms and for his education. If anything it's the complete opposite of being short sighted. He's a young prospect of the Canucks who are trying to get younger and are willing to move out veterans in order to do so.. when he's ready, bye bye whoever is taking his spot. Some posters are claiming there is nothing left for him to prove at the NCAA level and I couldn't disagree more. Brock has undoubtedly blown way past any of the expectations we could have had for him this season. If he can show that he can do that again, or do even better without being on the best line in the entire NCAA, then wow we got something special here. He will be taking on a bigger leadership role and won't benefit from being on that CBS line. Plus, UND have the best facilities in the NCAA and a great coaching staff to boot. It really couldn't be a better fit for his development. He's got a long career ahead of him it seems, no need to rush him into a Canucks team that will most likely have another tough season next year.
  5. If anyone needs a hand to hold, or a brown paper bag to aid with breathing, hit me up.
  6. Alf, go to bed, stop with the third person thing, and stop getting worked up over things that you don't have to. It's not crazy or anything for either Boeser or Demko to return to college for next year. It also doesn't mean they don't have the intentions to sign with the Canucks. You and the rest of the tin foil hat wearing type need to chill out.
  7. The whole scouting team deserves some credit for the improvement in drafting. It's not a coincidence it has happened since Benning was hired and he shuffled some roles around. Judd's record seems impressive
  8. Even if he returns to college, he could always sign after next season. That's when we should be worried at all. I just don't see him signing with another team, I really don't. Very confident he signs with the Canucks whether or not it's now or after next season.
  9. Obviously can't argue against that. The chances of you getting an elite franchise player however outside of the top end of the draft is very low in terms of how many picks are made. The argument has been floating around these boards over the last few weeks that you can win without picking high or tanking or whatever you want to call it.. but looking at the last decade.. its only really detroit that have won a cup without having high draft picks in the lineup.
  10. Yea.. Just think how many players are picked in the top 3 compared to the rest of the draft and then work out the hit and miss ratios Silly arguing against picking top line talent in the top 3-5
  11. That's probably one of the best periods of hockey I've ever seen. Should show people who don't like the sport that period and they would love it.
  12. That all starts with Brock, He's been brilliant so far.

  14. You willing to make a bet? Would put a lot on the line that Demko signs, same as Boeser. Boeser will probably return to UND for another year though.
  15. I saw somewhere Subban will get games next season atleast. I think he's still atleast a year or two away physically but technically he's probably there already.
  16. No Alf..... it's ridiculous to even suggest Tanev and McCann. What is so enticing about Drouin other than him not being a Canuck? is it the questionable character or the inability to perform at the NHL level?
  17. Nevermind, was going to post something about how crazy it is that so many people are suggesting to trade Edler and McCann for Drouin.... Anyways, reading those quotes from Brock saying he has surprised himself and that he is starting to picture the type of ceiling he could have is so encouraging. If he can have an even better season next year at UND.. oh baby.
  18. I rest my case. Desi agrees with you. It's way too early to call anything. I wasn't too sure about the deal when it was made but I like what Granlund can bring to the team, I don't feel Shinkaruk was ever going to get a shot here with the forward group we have, and yes I hope he has a successful career because he's such a likeable guy and good on him for having the chance to play for his hometown club. What I can also say is Shinkaruk could never be a bottom six guy at the NHL level, or atleast an effective one and I don't believe he has the entire package to make it as a top 6 either. Benning traded a question mark for a guy that possibly has a lower ceiling but a higher floor. 2nd and Shink for Granlund and Baertschi, I'd make that trade 10/10 times.
  19. Can we just highlight how crazy it is that Boeser has tied Parises record for goals scored by a freshman? I know this doesn't mean he will be as good or better than Parise at the NHL level and I always try to keep my expectations fairly low, but the kid is making it hard for me to not get all giddy and have my face blush thinking about him. It has to mean something though..
  20. far-fetched adjective adjective: farfetched unlikely and unconvincing; implausible. "the theory sounded bizarre and far-fetched" synonyms: improbable, unlikely, implausible, scarcely credible, difficult to believe, dubious, doubtful, unconvincing, incredible, unbelievable, unthinkable, beyond the bounds of possibility
  21. I think that the projection of the future for this team is exactly that, drafting very high for the next few years if Benning is successful in this re-build. I am already looking forward to the 2017 draft where I am guessing the Canucks will be picking in the top 5. Nolan Patrick is a very enticing center prospect that would be a franchise player. Timothy Liljegren looks like one of the most exciting prospects coming out of Sweden since the golden age of Forsberg and that lot. He's crazy good and a future #1 d-man
  22. I said a few days before Jake was kept in the NHL that he shouldn't be there. I think Benning felt his hand was forced since McCann was going to make the team and it would look bad on the Canucks and Jake if the higher drafted player didn't make the team as well. Jake is a project, he's not a finished product. You can't deny he can compete physically at the NHL level, but we don't want him to be a 4th line player, we want him to be a dominant offensive force. The way I see things, screw the ELC stuff, send him back to Juniors and be extremely honest with him. Tell him he hasn't performed well enough to stick in the NHL and that he needs to go back and work his butt off to get better. He looked more impressive in his draft year and he should be reminded that just because you got drafted, you haven't made it yet. It was a mistake to keep him past the 9 games because he wasn't ready. It worked for Draisaitl and Edmonton. It will work for Virtanen. He just needs more time to develop than other players selected around him and there is nothing wrong with that.
  23. Finland are really interesting, I'm watching the Finland v. Slovakia game right now and on paper I think they have the strongest team in this years tournament but it's just not coming together. Puljujarvi, Laine, and Rantanen (Colorado pick) are all so similar. Similar size (huge), skilled, with fantastic releases and the combination of the three is really intimidating. Sebastian Aho (Carolina pick) has probably been the best player of the tournament so far. From my limited viewings, Canuck fans should be really happy if they end up with either Laine or Puljujarvi, I'd pick Laine first. On Boeser: First game, very solid, second game? kinda invisible. I don't value the play in this tournament very highly because it's such a small number of games over a short period of time but you can't deny the talent that he possesses. Very happy with the pick, I think he will be a beauty.
