  1. I don't know if I'd say they are that small. Shink and Baer are both 5'11 and Rodin is 6'. Shink has improved his physicality and play along the boards and if you have had the chance to see Rodin this year he has become really gritty and is really strong. They are definitley not towering over players but I don't think size would be an issue with bigger players around them. Agree with you on McCann and Sutter. I think we will see a similar set up down the middle like we have this season next year. Sutter will be up and down from the first line to the 2nd and Horvat will probably get more minutes than McCann still. I don't think the Canucks ahve anything to lose bringing Rodin back, he has been absolutely outstanding this season and was named captain before it started. By far the best player in the league this season.
  2. Leading scorer in SHL while captaining his team. GP: 27 G: 16 A: 18 PTS: 34 +/-: 27 Canucks have shown interest in bringing him back as well. He isn't done and has been the outstanding player of this season so far, pundits can't say enough about him.
  3. Exactly this. Hard to even make a worthy judgement after the tournament. In years past we have seen players come in and absolutely dominate and then not turn into anything. It's such a small scope and I view the tournament being like a trailer for an upcoming movie. To me it seems the Canucks got a steal in Brock. When I look at the draft board now and the progress of the players selected, I would have selected him a lot higher than he went. Bennings drafting has proven to add value to the organization with each pick. I know we overhype prospects on here but I really think we are building through the draft in all rounds. Just look at Tate Olson this season for example. He's playing like a top 30 selection and he was picked in the 7th round.
  4. This is really exciting. There is plenty left of the season but if this continues it will be hard for Canucks management not to lure him out of college early. I wouldn't mind seeing him stay in college and finish his degree but if you are producing like he has been, you can tell he is ready for the next step. We have seen what Utica meant for Markstroms development and confidence. If Demko is signed this summer, he will come to camp learn from Miller and go to Utica to develop the right way. He will probably grab the starting job as soon as he arrives and after that, it's up to him if he performs or not. No reason to rush him into the NHL to sit on a bench.
  5. I find it difficult to understand how anyone could critique this move or not welcome Rodin back into the line-up atleast to see what he can do. He was a second round pick gone to waste and this could salvage it all. He has been playing incredible this season and has looked very good in previous seasons as well. He was just named captain this year and it can't be a coincidence that his point production has gone up with that responsibility as well. It's hard to say where the Canucks will be come trade deadline day but if some veterans are moved then I can see the Canucks signing him in the summer. I don't think it would be a good move for the Canucks or Rodin to come over midseason. Let him finish the year over there, have a good summer and come to camp roaring. He's got the skill and doesn't shy away from the physical side of things either. This could be a great move for the Canucks if it happens. Low risk, high reward situation and in todays NHL you can't afford to pass up on opportunities like that.
  6. He's such a likable guy! Just his interviews when he just can't wipe that smile off his face, very endearing. His play has been endearing as well, I can't help but love this kid!
  7. If he were to come back, he won't come back to play in the AHL there is no reason for him to do that. He has already played in the AHL and why would he want to leave a perfectly suitable situation in Sweden in his hometown to play in Utica? It doesn't make sense for him or the Canucks, he's already paid his dues in the AHL. If he is coming back, he shows up for training camp and if he doesnt get an NHL job he is going back to Sweden, that's what I would do if I were him. I don't expect him to come back to the Canucks but I wouldn't be surprised if he signs a deal with an NHL team later on in his career.
  8. 28 points in 41 games during the regular season and 8 points in 8 playoff games. His play was pretty impressive. Only thing lacking was footspeed I thought he brought a lot to the table.
  9. The kind of player you want to be picking in these later rounds. He's a right winger with some size. I really like this pick!
  10. Still on the board with 5 picks ahead of the Canucks
  11. I wonder why all those General Managers of real NHL teams passed on them for lesser known players.....
  12. Definitley an under the radar type of prospect. I had no idea about him but am quite excited about this pick. A lot of potential there, could have been ranked/selected a lot higher if he was playing for a better team. He did get the call up to Canada, that says a lot about him if he plays for a horrific team like the Titan.
  13. Anyone looking at that (-) should know how terrible his team was. He was one of the few bright spots. Ill post some info here: http://thehockeywriters.com/guillaume-brisebois-the-next-ones-nhl-2015-draft-prospect-profile/ http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=213397
  14. I wish that the Canucks will "detroit" all their prospects. Unless there are cases like Horvat that was clearly ready for a role in the NHL and proved that with is rookie season. What is the rush to get these young guys into the team? When they are ready to take over roles, they are ready. Might as well just brew them in junior and the AHL before that. An experienced 22 year old will likely enjoy earlier success than an unexperienced 18 year old.
  15. This is quite awkward but you are not spelling it right either. Sven Bärtschi is his real name, just made it easier for you north americans to pronounce it using the "ae" instead of "ä". Eddie Lack you say? it's Eddie Läck - Pronounced as "Leck" Bärtschi
  16. Would be surprised if either Virtanen or McCann get any game time for Utica this season. I can't be the only one that see's Virtanen play atleast one season in the AHL before making the Canucks right? Feels like Jake would really benefit in the long-term from being developed properly and rounding out his game in Utica. We finally have a farm team with their biggest focus on developing NHL players for the Vancouver Canucks. Coaching staff down there are doing wonders with the youngsters, I can't wait to see how much Virtanen will develop under Travis Green.
  17. I agree with you I have the same concerns but I am also confident that those concerns will dissapear in due time. He is a bit rawer than other players picked around him in the draft but his ceiling is underestimated I think. He has the tools and talent to become a 30-50 goal scorer but whether or not he will get there is the question. I believe he can become that player but he will need time and patience.
  18. First game with a new team didn't expect a hattrick. Thought he looked alright despite the penalties, had that cross crease pass to dorsett (not sure if I remember correctly) and other than that he didn't get stuck in as much I had liked to see. It seemed like he pulled out of a lot of 50-50 situations. Still believe that he should have remained with Utica for the remainder of the season to keep the scoring rate going but hey, 5/10 an average score for his debut from me.
  19. I think the Canucks would be silly to call Baertschi up right now. Let the guy finish his season in Utica, keep collecting points, play under a coach he is familiar with and clearly is helping his game, and remain confident entering a very important offseason for the future of his career. The flames kept moving him back and forth from the AHL to NHL and it made him lose confidence. I hope Grenier gets the call. Sven could really benefit from not being disturbed and just playing great hockey in Utica.
  20. He won't keep #77 for an extended period of time. Despite Dorsett and Horvat carrying higher numbers I am pretty sure that the Canucks are still making players pick lower numbers. Personally I like that.
  21. Absolutley, can't remember in what thread (could have been this one) or when but I remember posting about what a tremendous tutor Vrbata could be for Baertschi. I see a lot of similarities in their game and I think Vrbata will be able to give Sven some pointers to reaching that potential.
  22. It's so encouraging that Sven is doing so well in Utica so far. I think management will convince the coaching staff to be patient with Sven next season when he get's a spot on the team. Not only will he help out offensively, he will most likely be featured on a struggling 2nd line PP unit, push talent down the line-up making the team deeper, and add a much needed offensive winger to the top 6. I can't remember the last time the Canucks could potentially be as deep as they could be next year. There will be some changes because the Canucks will be in the luxury of a log-jam on forwards. Perfect opportunity for Benning to acquire one or two draft picks in the 2nd-3rd round of the draft depending on who gets the chop. Dorsett and Matthias I am 100% convinced will be re-signed, Richardson I am at 40%, I think he might be gone and that's not down to his play, I think he has been fantastic for us. I really like Chris Higgins and I really do hope he stays but I don't think there will be room for him on the roster next season. If Higgins is traded I think Richardson will be re-signed. So the line-up if Higgins is traded for a 2nd round pick(value?) Sedin - Sedin - Kassian Baertschi - Bonino - Vrbata Matthias - Horvat - Burrows Dorsett - Richardson - Hansen Vey, Kenins I think Vey might be in risk of being pushed out if he doesn't up his game and improve in the circle. Even if Higgins stays I think Matthias would play over Vey.
