Right, because where you are from determines whether or not you have a competitive edge. Gotcha.

I think a player like Jake needs to be developed throughly for him to have a successful career in the NHL. He isn't the most skilled guy but he does the basics of hockey very well. Jake needs to come into the lineup and absolutely ready to go or else he might be rushed into a wrong situation. He would look lost in the NHL. Another year in the dub, and probably atleast 1-2 years in Utica.

I think you are getting a bit ahead of yourself here. Horvat is a good player and he will become an even better one. As of right now however, I don't think that he has a better "total game" than Hansen or Richardson. Perhaps against players his age but you have to remember the NHL is a lot different and keeps a higher pace. Something that Hansen and Richardson have already mastered since they have been in the league for years. I don't see Jensen or Shinkaruk making the team, expect both to start in Utica.

[Rumor] Ryan Miller to Vancouver Thread
DeltaSwede replied to canuckbeliever's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If Miller is indeed signed, Markstrom won't be happy at all. I could see him giving up on his NHL dream if this happens and going to the KHL/SHL. Would be a shame because I think he has a ton of potential still and it would be wasted in the AHL. Miller is obviously a high end goaltending in this league but it needs to be for the right price. I might be convinced if he lets me go on a date with his wife/girlfriend Noureen Dewulf -
[Trade] Sam Gagner dealt to AZ Coyotes
DeltaSwede replied to canuckbeliever's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
What a deal for Arizona (sounds so wrong) in respect to what they had to give up. Opens up some space for Tampa to go after a player like Boyle. What a rough day for Sam Gagner though.. -
It is very difficult to say whether a deal like this should be made. There is an abundance of physical centers in the prospectpool but there is a real lack for wingers. Florida have an abundance of young and talented centers anyways so they will be looking for wingers and defensemen for return. Something we also need, I just don't see it being worked out.

[Confirmed] Willie Desjardin: VAN Head Coach
DeltaSwede replied to Strombone1's topic in Canucks Talk
So Desjardins is coming, I think that is a very solid choice from what I have read up on. I wanted Stevens but sometimes you don't get what you want and I am guessing that Stevens is happy in his role with the Kings. Desjardins, Gulutzan and Pearn as next years coaches? I like that, quite a lot actually. -
[RUMOURS] Daily TSN Trade Rumours, Off Season Edition
DeltaSwede replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I have the feeling that Dan Boyle will go to Tampa Bay. They are in need of veteran leadership especially now that St Louis is gone and who knows if Callahan will stay or not. They also need a puck moving defensemen so Boyle fits the bill. He is also familiar with Florida having played there at the start of his career. Moves his family to a nice and warm place to live where he has lived previously as well. Perfect fit really. -
Did this guy violate your sister or something? What's up with this astonishing dislike for a player of Virtanens caliber? There is a reason why Button has Virtanen incredibly low compared to other drafting services rankings and other experts, he's not the brightest bulb in my mind. Virtanen: One of the fastest skaters in the draft One of the best shooters in the draft Had 45 goals this past season 6'1, 212 pounds but he plays like he is 6'5 260 pounds, walks through opposition players. I really don't see Virtanen slipping out of the top 15 despite having shoulder surgery. He is young enough to rehabilitate from the injury and become even stronger after the fact. If anyone cares here is my top 15 players ignoring team needs: 1. Reinhart 2. Ekblad 3. Bennett 4. Draisaitl 5. Dal Colle 6. Nylander 7. Fleury 8. Virtanen 9. Ehlers 10. Kapanen 11. Perlini 12. Fabbri 13. Ritchie 14. McCann 15. Scherbak

[rumor] benning wants reinhart
DeltaSwede replied to GM PLACE ROCKS's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think this is the likeliest trade to occur at the draft. Edmonton need to pick a defensemen and Florida needs NHL ready wingers. To Florida Nail Yakupov 1st Round Pick 2014 (3) To Edmonton Vince Trocheck 1st Round Pick 2014 (1) Edmonton - Aaron Ekblad Buffalo/Vancouver(???) - Sam Reinhart Florida - Sam Bennett Calgary - Micheal Dal Colle New York - William Nylander Vancouver/Buffalo(???) - Leon Draisaitl -
[Report] Canucks wont ask Alex Edler to waive NTC
DeltaSwede replied to AriGold's topic in Canucks Talk
Doesn't mean they wouldn't get playing time. It's just a number really whatever pairing or line you are on. If that happens they would use all pairings frequently and all have very similar on ice time. Just because you put Garrison and Bieksa on the third pairing doesn't mean their minutes will dwindle down to 10-12 minutes. I can. Ehrhoff wanted too much money (I would have paid him). Mitchell was regressing in play and getting older. Salo was a huge part of the team and arguably our best defensemen at the time, when he played. Bieksa is the heart and sould of this team really. "I will go down with the ship" is essentially what he said and he was one of our better defensemen the past few years. Would an Ehrhoff been nice over the past few seasons. Yes of course it would but would his 10 year 40 million contract be nice still? Not a chance. -
[Report] Canucks wont ask Alex Edler to waive NTC
DeltaSwede replied to AriGold's topic in Canucks Talk
To me buying out Garrison would be a huge waste. Ask for a list of teams from him if you feel like you have to move him. Edler, he's been my favorite player every since he was drafted by the Canucks because he comes from my small boring hometown in Sweden and my grandma somehow knows his grandma. He has the potential to be a very good player again but he needs that support beside him that Ehrhoff and Salo were able to give him. That needs to be adressed and I see this as both an indication that Garrison will be on the market and attempts to move him will be made. I can also see this being a similar situation to Kesler unless he wants to leave Vancouver. Give them the supporting cast they need and the Canucks would be right back in it IMO. -
I thought us Canucks fans would know how often smaller players drop in the draft. (Schroeder, Shinkaruk)
-
I really do feel that the Canucks will be a team that will be really exploring trade options and a lot of teams in the top 5 would likely be up for trading down, the least likely being Calgary who need to get more talented prospects. The other teams already have their high end prospects and would likely be looking at getting prospects in return that are more ready for the NHL. Florida - Interested in Kapanen and Ehlers, both should be available at 6th Buffalo - Correct me if I am wrong but they were open to trading their first round pick for NHL ready prospects Edmonton - They need to get some roster players insted of constantly getting these 18 year olds while not having any real veteran leadership around them New York - Again a team with massive depth in their prospect pool I can see a scenario like this: Kesler is traded to Anaheim for 3 pieces, Shea Theodore, 10th overall pick and the 24th overall pick Vancouver flip the 6th and 10th pick to Buffalo and select Reinhart With the 24th they select McKeown 36th Lemieux/Sanheim
-
This would be a scenario that I would be happy with. Kesler is traded to Anaheim for Shea Theodore, the 10th pick and the 24th pick in this years draft. I really want Vancouver to get into the top 5 if they know that all of the players currently ranked to go in that range will not drop and would not be available for the 6th pick. The team that is the most likely trading partner would be the New York Islanders. The Islanders already have tons of prospects so they can afford to move down the draft in order to gain a roster player that could help the NHL club next year (especially now that they have decided to retain their 2014 pick and send their 2015 first round pick to Buffalo) . Jannik Hansen and the 6th selection to move up one spot, add a third if needed. #5 - Draisaitl/Bennett/Dal Colle #10 - Virtanen/Fleury/Nylander #24 - Fabbri/McKeown #36 - Sanheim/Pettersson/Glover/Lemieux F: Draisaitl, Virtanen, Fabbri, Horvat, Shinkaruk, Gaunce, Jensen, Kassian, Fox, Cassels, Grenier D: Corrado, Theodore, Subban, Cederholm, Hutton, McNally, Sanheim
-
I would re-sign him and see what he can do next season. He is certianly a decent AHLer at this point so it would help out Utica if he doesn't make the team. He does have some trade value so adding him to a trade could also sweeten the pot a little bit.

[Confirmed] Jim Benning signs as new Canucks GM
DeltaSwede replied to TheRussianRocket.'s topic in Canucks Talk
I think this is a strength that Benning has. I don't know if you have watched "Behind the B" (a webseries about the Bruins - I know, I watched until the Benning part came up and stopped watching). Well that "part" that I was intrigued by was when Bruins management were talking about Tyler Seguins future with the team. Benning was fair with his remarks, he knew that he needed to be traded because of various situations and Pete Chiarelli made it happen. He doesn't get attached to players it seems. Something this team REALLY needs with the stagnant core. I am torn personally because I am obviously a fan of these players and don't want to see them leave Vancouver but this is the NHL and there won't be any Stanley Cup parades in Vancouver if the team doesn't change. Change is coming. It is still hard to imagine players like Kesler, Burrows, and Edler in other Jerseys than the blue and green -
So you are telling me that Nick Ritchie is the next Lindros/Jagr? I really don't think so, but I hope I eat my words if the Canucks select him and your statement becomes true.
-
Yes, Mikko Koivu is certainly a corner stone of the Minnesota Wild, Captain and all.
-
It feels good to say that I honestly believe that Trevor and Jim will find a very good head coach for this team. I have liked all the things that Benning has been saying so far and I doubt that will stop when making a coaching decision. Desjardins, Stevens, Cassidy (Providence Bruins), Bylsma(?), Oates are likely some of the candidates on the list.
-
Well I actually said that Ehlers is riskier but I guess I'll go into more depth. I feel that Ritchie is a risky pick because there are a lot of Sestitos in the NHL and not a lot of Milan Lucic's skating around. He has had issues with his weight and has a history with injuries. I think he is a safer pick than Ehlers because his floor is higher. He could be an effective bottom six player if he busts, but you don't pick effective bottom six players at #6. Ehlers, there is the lack of size and the dependency on skill and speed only. Yes he has shown that he can be physical, but that is against players in his own age group and size. The NHL is a different league and he will be pushed around a lot. His floor is a lot lower than Ritchies, as if he doesn't become a bonafide top 6 forward, he won't be playing in the NHL. There is no guarantee that his offense will translate to the NHL level and although I haven't watched him play that often, watching highlight videos of him and the way he scores goals, I am not all that impressed. A lot of tap ins into open goals set up by teammates. I think Ritchie and Ehlers are both very raw and predicting their potential is very difficult. I like Virtanen because he feels like a safer pick. This shoulder surgery is nothing serious. He will be in the WHL again next year whether or not he was injured over summer or not. It won't slow down his development much. Listening to what Benning and Linden want Canucks players to be like, Jake Virtanen fits the bill. I still hope the Canucks are lucky and have one of the top 5s drop like I said in my post and then pick up Virtanen with the 10th pick received in a trade with Anaheim (maybe 24th as well - Sanheim). If they manage to do that we will be looking very good for the future. Draisaitl/Dal Colle/Bennett, Horvat, Shinkaruk, Virtanen, Jensen, Gaunce (Forward Prospects) Corrado, Cederholm, Hutton, McNally, Subban, Sanheim (Defensive Prospects)
-
I want him, I want the Canucks to take a risk on him but not at #6. I don't want Nylander because I don't think he has what it takes to make it in the NHL and that is from watching him play. Yes he is skilled but it ends there. He's weak, whiny, and very tiny out there. He plays that way as well and shys away from any rough stuff. Ehlers wouldn't be a horrible pick but I think he is a very risky pick as well. Ritchie, I don't like him very much because he is a risky pick. One of the top 5, please drop or please trade up Benning!

[Confirmed] Jim Benning signs as new Canucks GM
DeltaSwede replied to TheRussianRocket.'s topic in Canucks Talk
You can't disagree with the Bruins trading Seguin. It was the right move at the time. He wasn't a fit with the team He had off ice issues His weaknesses had seen little improvement Would you rather trade one of Lucic, Bergeron, Krejci, or Marchand to keep him around? Don't think so. They got Loui Eriksson, a player that caused CDC users mouths to froth and wanted Vancouver to trade for him so badly, a young top 6 forward in Smith. Bottom 6 prospect in Fraser, and a potential top 4 D in Morrow. I really don't see how Boston wouldn't pull that trade off.. It's too bad that Loui just hasn't found his game yet. -
Wouldn't put too much value to any of these quotes. As someone said earlier, Virtanens name was brought up to Linden, it wasn't Linden who brough up Virtanen. My ideal drafting scenario would be that two more first round picks will be traded for in a Ryan Kesler trade to Anaheim. #6: One of Draisaitl/Dal Colle fall (I think they are the two prospects most likely to drop from the top 5) #10: Jake Virtanen/Brendan Perlini #24: Travis Sanheim/Roland McKeown/Connor Bleakley

ISS/CS Draft Rankings - 2014 NHL Entry Draft
DeltaSwede replied to motzaburger's topic in Canucks Talk
I just hope one of Dal Colle and Draisaitl drop to us. Those are the guys I really want in the first round other than Ekblad, Reinhart and Bennett. So basically any of the top 5 ranked players.
