  1. I have warmed up to the idea of bringing in Trotz as head coach. Benning I kind off knew from the start that it was going to happen eventually with all the rumours going around and I think he is a very good choice for a team looking to build from the draft and with youth. Ray Shero is more of a guy that would be a good GM to take over a team that just needs a few different pieces to finish the puzzle and win a cup. I have been wanting Benning as soon as Mike Gillis got fired so on a personal level I am very happy, I just hope that he ends up making me happy in the long run as well! I am not sure who Trotz right hand man is (Torts and Sullivan), but I think Adam Oates would be a fantastic hire as an assistant coach but not sure if he wants to take on an assistant job in the NHL. President: Trevor Linden GM: Jim Benning Coach: Barry Trotz Assistants: Glen Gulutzan, Adam Oates That would be a very solid group.
  2. Don't get me wrong now, I really like Fabbri as well. The thing is, it would be a waste to pick him at six because he could be had later on in the first round. I think it would be fair to predict that the Canucks will trade for a second first round pick in this draft. New GM coming in, new President in place, both need to make a name for themselves and often newly appointed management make deals. This means that the Canucks have the chance to pick a very talented prospect at #6 and then pick Fabbri with the second first round pick. I think that would make a lot of sense because I do think there is risk surrounding Fabbris development. Safe pick at #6, high risk - high reward pick at #18-#24. Come out of the first round with one of the picks ranked #3-#12 and Fabbri. Great start for new management.
  3. Trotz and Shero to Washington. Stevens and Benning to Vancouver
  4. To ever bring up the idea of Alex Burrows being bought out makes me very angry. Absolutley ridiculous to think that such a thing could happen. The guy literally worked his tail off and had one bad season and now we should get rid of him. I wish we had a team of Keslers and Burrows.
  5. I have become more and more convinced that Virtanen would be a wise choice at #6. Like other posters above me have mentioned he is the safest pick out of the players outside of the "top five" because in the worst case scenario he would become an above average 3rd liner. I think Ehlers, Ritchie, and Nylander (typically discussed) have more question marks around their potential of success in the NHL. Maybe Virtanen doesn't become a 50 goal scorer but I don't think anyone in this draft does anyways, its a weak draft compared to the previous few years. Virtanen is a very raw talent but we have seen picks like that work out for teams these past few years (I am thinking of Johansen in Columbus and Scheifele for the Jets). I love his shot, skating, swagger, leadership qualities and the way he can absolutely send shock waves through opposing players with his hits. He has been labled selfish but in my opinion I think it is a bit exaggerated. He is a sniper for sure but he is not a bad hockey player. He could easily be coached into using his teammates more if he has to. If Reinhart, Bennett, Ekblad, Draisaitl, and Dal Colle are taken top 5 then I would for sure pick Virtanen as I think he has the potential of becoming something very special and a player that would become a fan favorite. If he doesn't he will become a very solid 3rd liner similar to a Cal Clutterbuck Best case scenario: Corey Perry Worst case scenario: Cal Clutterbuck I would love to see a Shinkaruk - Horvat - Virtanen line in their prime. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Right now I would personally rank the top 10 like this: 1. Aaron Ekblad 2. Sam Reinhart 3. Sam Bennett 4. Leon Draisaitl 5. Micheal Dal Colle 6. Jake Virtanen 7. Nikolaj Ehlers 8. Nick Ritchie 9. Kasperi Kapanen 10. William Nylander
  6. I don't think it is very likely that he (Cassidy) ends up being the head coach of the Canucks. I think that's why we have a president of hockey operations as well to help out with these decisions. However, him getting fired in Washington roughly ten years ago doesn't mean he would be a bad choice. I think I would rather see him as an assistant if he HAS to be brought in.
  7. I think the players that have been discussed the most on these boards (Virtanen, Ehlers, Ritchie, Nylander) have a lot of question marks about them. Either way I hope that one of Draisaitl, Bennett, or Dal Colle drop to our position at #6 instead because I think all three are more complete as players. I just hope the Canucks stay away from Nylander at the 6th spot. He is the riskiest pick out of those 4 players that will likely be left on the board once its Vancouvers turn to pick. I think a real possibility in this draft is that William Nylander is picked by Calgary if Ekblad, Reinhart and Draisaitl are gone. His father Michael spent his longest tenure playing for an NHL team in Calgary. Could be a neat story for them but I guess that doesn't really matter for them seeing that they passed on Shinkaruk in last years draft. 1. FLA - Ekblad 2. BUF - Reinhart 3. EDM - Draisaitl 4. CGY - Nylander 5. NYI - Bennett/Dal Colle 6. VAN - Bennett/Dal Colle
  8. I just don't have any confidence in the "skilled" players after this years top 5 picks. William Nylander is a prospect I have watched more than others because he has played for my favorite team in Sweden MoDo a few times this season and there is definitley skill there but there is just something about him that just doesn't convince me he will pan out to become a high scoring player in the NHL. It's hard to think of word for it but he just doesn't feel like he is cut out for it. I hope I am completely wrong if we end up picking him 6th. No physicality at all, weakest player I have seen play for MoDo in years. Nikolaj Ehlers like Nylander has a lot of skill and speed but there is just something there that just doesn't make me that convinced. I think he will slide in the draft and go between 12th and 15th in the draft. He wouldnt't be able to compete against the Kings, Ducks, Sharks or any other major Western team. He will be picked by an Eastern Team. Kasperi Kapanen very similar to William Nylander and I expect him to go outside of the top 10 as well. I don't mind who the Canucks pick but I think that Jake Virtanen is too hard to resist for the new management especially with the way Linden wants this team to look in the future. I have to retract my statement earlier saying that he is not a 6th overall pick in this draft because I think the Canucks will have to make him a 6th overall pick. Similar to Horvat in last years draft he was ranked to go lower in the draft but one team had him at 4th overall in the entire draft. I think us fans often rely on the medias opinions rather than what NHL teams will be looking for. Some names that come to mind (Ryan Johansen, Morgan Reilly, Alexander Barkov, Bo Horvat) in recent drafts that the media have had lower but NHL teams have had higher. I think Jake Virtanen has all the tools to become a VERY good top 6 winger in the NHL but it is hard to deny that he is a very "raw" type of prospect. The Canucks have to decide whether or not it is worth the risk to draft a raw prospect that could turn potentially turn into a hometown hero or go with another option that they feel more suited for the future of the organization. My "What If" Scenario: 2014 Draft: Jake Virtanen - Turns into a similar player as Corey Perry 2015 Draft: Matthew Barzal - First line center of the future Shinkaruk - Barzal - Virtanen Jensen - Horvat - Kassian Gaunce - Cassels - Fox
  9. I was listening to the Canucks Army draft special podcast and they made some very good points about Jake Virtanen. They pointed out that he has been playing with two over agers the majority of the year and this wouldd have likely inflated his numbers a little bit. Now, I am not saying that Virtanen wouldn't be a bad pick but he would be a high risk/high reward type of prospect especially at #6. There is no denying that he is a very talented hockey player. I wouldn't either be against drafting him but I think that there are other options that would be safer pics like Nick Ritchie, Brendan Perlini and Haydn Fleury. I think we will have an excellent chance to grab a very talented player this year either way. Who ever we pick that has been around the 3-8 spots all year will have a very good career in the NHL and I just hope that the scouting staff have done their homework and pick the best player available and that might very well be Jake Virtanen. I wanted the Canucks to pick him earlier in the year when they would be drafting at the #8-#10 spots.
  10. I don't like Ehlers potential of transitioning into the NHL, I just don't think it will be a success. I know he is 6ft and around 176 but there is just something about his game that I don't like. I would prefer drafting Jake Virtanen or Brendan Perlini over him.
  11. I think it would be very very difficult to get Milan Lucic to join the Canucks. Both value wise in a trade and the Canucks actually wanting to bring him in with the way fans have treated him in the past. I know it doesn't make every Canuck fan an idiot because of some individuals but it would be very odd to see him in a canuck uniform ever in his career.
  12. Been saying that Benning would be an excellent choice ever since it was finalized that Gillis was gone. Either Benning or Gilman for GM and I would be happy, a combination of both would make me even happier. Pres: Linden GM: Jim Benning AGM: Laurance Gillman Senior Advisor: Pat Quinn Coach: ???
  13. IF Linden is hired, which i personally find very unlikely with the businesses he is already running in B.C, I can't see him as either the President or GM of an NHL team. I think it would be fantastic to see him being hired as Vice President and then Bob Nicholson as President. Linden would be learning under Nicholson and they would both be responsible for finding a replacement for Gillis. My Vote for GM is on current Boston AGM Jim Benning (2006 - Present). He has played for the Canucks (1986-1990), was a great head scout for the Sabres, and has not been anything but successful in Boston being apart of the Stanley cup winner in 2011 and playoff appearances in all the seasons he has been with the organization. He has a very good eye for talent both in the draft and in the pro ranks, which can be proven by the Bruins drafting and negotiations over the past few years. We can't afford to hire rookies to run this organizations. Jim Benning is the perfect man for the job.
  14. I don't know how to feel about this yet. Came as a shock, expected him to get another year.
  15. The one player I hope doesn't drop down to wherever we pick is William Nylander. Being a fan of MoDo I have watched him play and I am really not that impressed with him. I think he will be a decent NHL player but he is a risky pick with his size. Also seems that he has some attitude issues with the way he has conducted himself with MoDo, pretty much only wanting to get loaned out to Sodertalje in the second league.
  16. Garrison should not be bought out. Simple as that.
  17. This conversation starts and ends with Jake Virtanen. Right Winger with size, skill, and leadership qualities from B.C.
  18. If everything would work out the way I would like it, it would go down something like this: Send Kes to Philly for Schenn, Simmonds, 2014 2nd Round Pick Send Edler and Gaunce to Pittsburgh for Brandon Sutter and Pouliot Send Burrows to the Rangers for 1st Round Pick 2015 Sedin - Sedin - Simmonds Higgins - Schenn - Kassian UFA - Sutter - Hansen Sestito - Richardson - Archie Hamhuis - Bieksa Garrison - Tanev Stanton - Pouliot
  19. Pittsburgh: Brandon Sutter, Beau Bennett, Pouliot, 1st 2015 Chicago: Brandon Saad, Terevainen, 1st 2015, 3rd 2014 Detroit: Gustav Nyquist, Smith, 1st 2015, 3rd 2014 Philly: Brayden Schenn, Sam Morin, 1st 2015, 3rd 2014
  20. People are silly claiming that Kesler wouldn't waive to go to Pittsburgh? I think most players in the league would love to play with players like Crosby, Malkin, and Neal. I think Kesler and Edler could be a very nice fit in New York with their old headcoach. The Rangers have the pieces to make the move as well. This proposal might be a little silly but it does make sense. to New York Ryan Kesler Alex Edler 3rd Round Pick To Vancouver Derek Stepan Dan Girardi (Contract agreed to with Vancouver) Danny Kristo 2nd Round Pick Kesler = Stepan+Kristo+2nd (goes a long with the rumored asking price) Edler + 3rd = Girardi Van Top 6: Sedin - Sedin - Burrows Higgins - Stepan - Kassian Van Top 4: Hamhuis - Girardi Garrison - Bieksa I would say yes from Vancouvers perspective atleast
  21. I could see Alberts being waived after this. As for the move, solid trade for both teams. Vancouver get's what they want and need and same goes for Montreal. With Weber though, doesn't really make sense to add Diaz in that respect, very similar players.
  22. We have a lot of assets in play that could make a re-tool very smooth. On my list of players leaving and it makes me very sad that it has come to this especially for my favorite player on the team Edler (from my hometown in Sweden) Edler Burrows Hansen Weise Luongo - for the right price Booth Schroeder Dalpe I think those are the pieces that makes the most sense to move. Sedin - Sedin - ________ _____ - Kesler - Kassian Higgins - Santo - ________ Sestito - Richardson -________ Hamhuis - Bieksa Garrison - Tanev Stanton - Corrado Knocking on the door: Bo Horvat Brendan Gaunce Alexandre Grenier
  23. If Devin Setoguchi becomes available I hope we go after him. We need more skill in our lineup! I think he would look very good next to a Ryan Kesler. Not sure on value however.
