[Proposal] pettersson to the rangers
DeltaSwede replied to tas's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing

That's not how LTIR works and is also an absurd idea.

Those are some awful packages.

Completely incorrect. My colleague who was 22 and completely healthy and lived a healthy lifestyle passed away. There are many other examples of the above. Please inform yourself.

[Rumour] John Klingberg requests trade

Funny feeling Boston takes the opportunity. Would be fun to see a McAvoy - Klingberg pairing. -
[Report] Canucks name Jim Rutherford as president & interim GM
DeltaSwede replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I too am a little, how do you put it, uneasy? with it being too penguin heavy. However, it's just rumors and it's such an easy link to make with JR working for the pens before. JR was talking about 40 people on the list so it's not surprising a few of them are from the penguins organization. We will see how things shake up. At the end of the day, hire the best people you can find for each positition. -
Ritchie brings nothing but size which he rarely uses effectively. Was fun times over on HF when Leafs fans were super excited about this signing and the media penciling him into the leafs top 6. He's a lazy floater. Happy it wasn't the Canucks who signed him in the off-season and expecting him to clear waivers.

Awful player. Not sure why anyone is suggesting the Canucks put in a claim.

[Report] Canucks name Jim Rutherford as president & interim GM
DeltaSwede replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I enjoy rumors as much as anyone else, but if you were a journalist and looking for answers where there may not be many given, who and from where would you guess would be included in the Canucks management core. Rutherford worked for the pens, Allvin linked with a bunch of GM positions recently, and there we have it. Something to get site views. -

It's not reasonable at all to be honest. Every single player goes through a slump throughout their career. Ovechkin, Crosby, Matthews, Stamkos, MacKinnon and the list goes on and on and on. You've watched him play, you've seen what he has done before, so why worry? We are witnessing what most likely will end up being the lowest point of his career right now. Petey is the last name on the trade block. You don't move your 23 year old 1st line center even if that player isn't playing up to par at the moment. He's not a liability and he's not hurting the team. That in itself is a gross miss understanding of asset management in pro sports and an insane risk to take. Nobody in their right mind would even consider it at this point. I appreciate posting and lurking on these boards but sometimes I am left baffled and with my mouth wide open. This is one of those moments. Be worried all you want, the kid is a gamer and will turn it around. There is absolutely nothing saying he won't. -

I think about 99,8% of the hockey world would be just that, patient. He's a 23 year old highly talented center who up until this point of his hockey career has never really gone through a slump. He's ultra competitive, plays a 200 foot game, and has insane offensive tools. You would be down right loony if you could find any reason to move on from a piece like that at this point of his career. He is the needed talent. If he were to be traded it would be for an upgrade. I think one of the few names that would make me say yes would be Leon Draisaitl. I think what happens a lot is that people view things in the now and don't consider the asset in 2-3, 5-6, or even 10 years down the road. A 26 year old Elias Pettersson will be absolutely deadly. -
Paul Maurice resigns as Jets head coach

Just speculation, but to me this feels like it's out of courtesy instead of firing him. -

[Report] Canucks hire Derek Clancey as assistant GM
DeltaSwede replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I could think of a lot of reasons why that could be a benefit to any organization. From my experience the most successful way of working is having specialists and entrusting that they can exceed within their roles when left alone. Equally important having a manager that will let them exceed in those roles and trust them to do so. Having your idea challenged is not only good in decisions making, it also makes you think harder, question your own ideas, and see things in more perspectives than just your own. All those things lead to better decisions. It might extend the time of the decision but you will be forced to compromise and that usually ends up being the best outcome. So to answer your question, I think it is necessary for the GM to be in a position (like any manager) where his decisions will be challenged. If you pick your own crew, you probably won't be questioned as often. That's why I don't see it as an issue at all. It's a good thing being uncomfortable sometimes. That in itself is a challenge that will make any individual grow. I could make connections to diversity, and I guess this is diversity as well. It's much like putting a hockey team together. You need a sniper, you need a playmaker but you also need a grinder and faceoff man etc. Good players make players around them better. Good managers make other managers and their employees better. Did i make any sense? haha I hope so! In some organizations, mid-managers will be apart of the hiring process of their new manager so it's not odd to hire a "mid-manager" before the manager is in place. Rather find the best fit for each role as the highest priority. -
[Report] Canucks hire Derek Clancey as assistant GM
DeltaSwede replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
It feels like there is some confusion or misinformation being carried forward in this thread. To me it sounds like Derek Clancey will be responsible for overseeing the pro and amateur scouting departments and not heavily involved in the scouting itself. Moreso building out and managing the actual scouts and the structure of the department rather than looking at players and calling the shots on who is drafted. We still have head of amateur and head of pro, so what would they be doing if Clancey took over that - nothing - so that narrative makes no sense unless those positions are removed. Nothing indicates thats the case. AGM responsible for managing the scouting departments. Not AGM picking who we draft. Edit: It sounds like the Canucks are building out their organization and adding more positions. In my mind, more voices and more opinions will lead to more discussions and hopefully better decisions being made. I really like where things are heading if that's the case. Everything I've read makes me feel that Clancey has a lot to bring to the table. If you're concerned about the amateur track record, don't be, it wasn't his role before and won't be his role now. Onwards and upwards. -

Key is "pro and amateur STAFF". I.e he will manage the scouts. -
Tierney is pretty awful

Most definitely. "I agree with your question". Probably the best thing you can say in that situation.
-
I also reacted to those questions. From the Virtanen investigation to the diversity questions. Just felt out of place. It's hard to even begin to answer questions regarding diversity because it's such a volatile topic. Whatever you say, it will end up being wrong in some way. Thought Rutherford answered it in an excellent fashion.

Been with the Pens organization since 2006 so I don't think he's unfamiliar with the NHL. As a Canucks fan who happens to be Swedish, this would be exciting. Jarmo is doing well in Columbus.
