How can I not possibly quote this when you've embedded the very song that represents the essence of my feelings today?

I only popped back in to double check whether it was dead.  Glad I caught your post, and help express the sadness goin round

"Help" though makes an assumption that there's a problem to begin with. Without a problem, there's no need for help. Whether it's your intention or not, your words are insinuating that there's a problem which I don't feel is a fair judgement of the situation.

I take it as Hughes has shown among the most leadership on the team; therefore he gets the C. His brothers have nothing to do with that. That part's just noise.

Maybe management is worried that Hughes might find some appeal playing with his brothers, even if Hughes hasn't made any comments to suggest that's his goal.  As we Canuck fans well know, brothers often enjoy playing together.

People can proactively help prevent something, even if it the threat is low.  Doesn't mean there has to be an overt problem to take some action to mitigate the risk.  But, if Hughes had ever stated it or if management only just perceived it, his leaving would be a problem.

I don't doubt his leadership, and I never claimed he wasn't worthy.  I only suggest that perhaps management is including his captaincy in the calculation as an added perk beyond what his leadership will bring.  It's also possible it never entered anyone's thought at all, and your last paragraph is completely right.

I'm not hanging my hat on anything here.  It was all just a spitball speculation I figured I'd share that might or easily might not have any merit.  If there's some halfwit journo up there making a similar claim, in an attempt to stir up crap, I'm totally unaware and am not trying to perpetuate it.

Don't think so.   It was always down to him or Miller.   Tavares left.  Others have left.  If he wants to go to NJ, he will.   Best the team can do, is try and win.   That's likely the only thing, or NJ simply having no room for him, that will stop him from going.   My bet is he sticks around if things are going well, if not, he will go somewhere else where a fatter paycheque exists.

Of course captains can leave.  The C is only a piece of the puzzle.  Maybe it matters a little, maybe not at all. I'm not saying anything more than that.

Anyhow, I agree with pretty much everything else you say.  here's hoping the team does well enough to earn his loyalty :towel:

Without evidence, I honestly see no point in this way of thinking. It's an unhealthy paranoid thought process that belongs at the bottom of the ocean.

No paranoia here.  With or without the C, QH may have enough love for the team and city to stay, perhaps enough to turn down higher offers when the time comes.

I'm only suggesting that the C might help.

Nope.  Good point.   I would have been fine with either.   The thing I like about QHs the most, is he could be around a very long time.   And hope he is.

I wonder if naming him captain is also a carrot to help keep him here, in case he thinks playing with his brothers is worth investigating

Leave goal song as is. Best one weve ever had.

If you wanna change anything, change out intro.

Being a Gen Xer, I'm quite happy with Simple Minds there, but I can imagine people thinking it's too weak.

I don't even know what the intro is anymore... I don't catch it on TV, and it's been ages since I've been at a game in Van.

While the sentiment of our outro was great in the bubble, or any playoffs for that matter, I hate that effing song.  Elton is too whiny for my tastes, especially I'm Still Standing. I'll hold onto my complaints if the players like it.  Ultimately, I'd like to see different outro songs, depending on whether winning or losing the game

You backed I what said.  That Ramsey guy is full of nonsense when he said you don't get your cash value back when you die.

A term policy is also more expensive if you start buying it later in life.  Plus if you stop payments your policy lapses and you get zero money.

IIRC, many whole life plans don't pay both.  Maybe things are changing lately after years of bad PR.  I've been out of that industry for over 20 yrs.

Anyhow, even with any enhancements they have made to WL plans, odds are you are far better off getting term and investing the money saved on cheaper term.   Dave says to invest 15% of your income and build up a nest egg enough to self insure.  If you have enough money to comfortably retire, you no longer need life insurance, so you never pay the inflated term prices once you get to your 60s (or earlier if you are smart/lucky).

The only head-scratchers are Nashville and St. Louis.  All the other crap teams have big hockey markets (ie. Philly) or marquee players (ie. Caps).  We should consider ourselves lucky for getting 2 games.

Yeah, I wondered about those two, and the Wild too... but they did have a good season.  Maybe just my personal bias against the Mild.

I don't expect them to cover the Cdn teams much at all.  Even with McD and AM, I'm surprised they have the Oilers and Leafs so much, especially Oilers being the most broadcast of all teams.  Basically ignoring the other 5 Cdn teams isn't a big surprise.   I'm just happy one of the Nuck games gives me one I wouldn't normally get.

Maybe if Petey takes a couple Art Ross trophies we'll get better representation in the near future ;)

I can imagine some bias, but 16 to 3 is quite drastic. At the very least they should probably be showing all the inter-California games. Also, while Anaheim wasn't good last year, they have a number of young marketable players.

Edit: Also ESPN and Hulu are owned by Disney so you would think Disney might be interested in showing the team they founded.

I dunno, Ducks were last overall.  Maybe if they had gotten Berard they'd have more games, just cuz of the potential star power there.

But some of the other teams don't make much sense.  There's a few men teams there with 10-13 games on there.  Maybe the Wednesdays have something to do with it?  Luck of the draw.
