  1. Absolutely. I would have just expected to wait a little before giving him a sizable extension, to be sure that his play holds up. I'm not claiming it will drop, but it's not unreasonable to think it could happen. For a team that is close to the cap (I think they were about 1M under last year), this fairly high contract could hurt them. Team is showing some strong faith in him, for sure.
  2. I was a little shocked about the amount, but as others have said, he is still producing. And, like others have said, I thought maybe it was rewarding for past play. In any case, it seemed decent to me. I went to Capfriendly to see if they were way under the cap, figuring that would justify the contract even more, and that's when my jaw hit the floor. First off, LA is slightly over the cap. No biggie, it's early in the season. Then I saw that Anze's still on a 10M AAV contract this year. He's turning 36 next month, so he will be 38 entering the final year of the contract extension. Unless Capfriendly is wrong with the current contract, WTF would LA be doing giving him an extension now? He's still playing on an 80M contract, so it's not like he's been (or being) underpaid. It's a long season for so many things to could go wrong, it seems nuts to tie up cap so early. Seems like a crazy signing to me with this flurry of facts.
  3. Well, he can ask. Hey, Dubas has a history of overpaying. Too bad the Pens don't have any cap... he could have the brothers play together.
  4. I'd be curious to know how often the hitter loses these fights. Could see it going both ways... jacked up from giving a good hit, or the body is already at a disadvantage from the collision. Hockey Fights is not the best measuring stick. Fan voting at its "best", and yeah in this case it is an easy draw. Hell, even if he loses those fights, if he throws those hits and draws some instigators, bring it on! (just keep the hits clean and cut down on trips to the box)
  5. Lol. I was just referring to the times that EP has come back and saved a goal or made a great defensive play. Wasn't thinking of our other EP. Good catch.
  6. Exactly. EP plays all positions so he is worth much more. Just don't tell his agent!
  7. Sounds like a whale of a guy to me. Welcome aboard!
  8. I'd sure like to see Myers playing playoff hockey for us, though. Felt the same way with Guddy back when we had him. Big D, willing to play tough, and with the whistles stashed a bit, can be quite valuable then. But, that means putting up with the warts during the regular season. Wasn't Myers decent (or even better than decent) back in the bubble?
  9. Yep, I'm not complaining over either pickup. We definitely needed a bigger, meaner D. What we got may not be ideal, but better is better. Fingers crossed the momentum we have with Tocchet is real.
  10. Didnt we have the top PK if you consider the split after Tocchet took over? I know many of us had high hopes going into last year with the BB momentum we thought we had, but I would think the odds of us maintaining a respectable PK l, especially after shoring up the D a bit like we have, are quite good. Sure hope so, since between Myers, Cole, and Soucy it looks like we'll need a good PK
  11. Isn't the thread title misleading? Isn't it still just a rumor at this point?
  12. Completely agree. Also helps if one's 10M AAV goalie doesn't crap the bed too often, too.
  13. I guess not going to Calgary or TO is a way at getting back at the Canucks org?
  14. What's the deal with Weekes and his camera placement? Been a couple I've seen from him like this. "Top of my head" is a just a common saying, dude.
  15. So many people down here are geographically challenged, education-wise, putting the location on the Away jerseys is a public service
  16. No penalty shot for Karlsson covering the puck in the crease with his hand? Penalty shot is probably the only way Florida can score off a penalty, they way they've been going here. Idiots need to stop taking such stupid penalties, too. And, is it just me or has Ekblad been Ekblawful? Bad penalties, bad decisions, getting caught out of the play too often this series. Maybe playing hurt?
  17. He was leaning over, lowering his shoulders. Not sure if that plays into it, but I wasn't expecting the call, as much as I wanted it disallowed.
  18. Had to laugh, commentators on TNT talking about how good a job the refs were doing, right after Cousins was boarded in the 2nd. This has been pretty bad, but the Cats bring it on themselves with the cheap shots. That was a nice pick that got missed just now.
