  1. Well, with Cholowski - that boat has sailed and is gone. We should have made a claim on him when he was on waivers. Too bad. We got nothing to lose for making a claim for Clague. If he works out, great, if he doesn’t, no harm for us, just waive him again, or send him down to the AHL (and if he has to go through waivers, so be it, we got nothing to lose really).
  2. I’d say, if the player is a good player, then I don’t really care about size. Myers is huge, but people complain about his play all the time. We have nothing to lose if he works out, and everything to gain. Why not.
  3. I was going to mention this. Canuck’s moving Hamonic and the handling of him over the last day has been really odd. The timing of it is strange as well. First called up, then sent back down, and then Clague goes on waivers. I can see Vancouver making a claim. Who goes before us on though, and would any of those teams make a claim before we can get to him? I’d be surprised if another team above us doesn’t claim him before he gets to us.
  4. Yeah. Probably worth a gamble with McDonough. See if he can work on his skating even more. If he can, what’s his upside? Middle six forward in the NHL?
  5. How is Juulsen doing in Abby? I wonder if he’s going to get a call up? Could use a RHD in our line up…
  6. Yea, I get it. But he’s also got to have a backbone too. Don’t be a pawn to someone else’s $&!#. Aquilini’s want to play with their toy? Fine, I get it. We can’t really do anything about the ownership. It’s their toy. If they want to screw with it, they do whatever the hell they want with it. But I find that our ownerships is so stupid. Like, if you’re wanting to play GM, just come out and say it. Take your lumps with the fan base, because you deserve the criticism for making hockey decisions, when you’re not hockey people or have hockey minds. Let those people do their goddamn jobs for crying out loud. I don’t understand what is so difficult about that. If you’re going to micro manage and meddle with the hockey operations, then why don’t they just take on the day to day affairs? Could save a lot of money, and you get to play with your toy. I wish the Gargliardi’s owned this team. We’d be far &^@#ing better off.
  7. Yeah. Benning did some good work with the RFA’s. It’s his UFA signings that have for the most part driven me off the wall. Brock for 5.75 on a bridge deal proved to be the right deal. But what does he do moving forward now with that QO? And yes, it sure does beat paying him 8M for 8 more &^@#ing years. Holy hell that would look like another Ericksson contract right about now. Petey’s bridge deal was also smart. I don’t think Benning was convinced that Pettersson could continue to do what he’s done the first couple of years. Good player? Hell yeah. But prove your worth in years 4,5 and 6. Right now, that 7M deal seems to be a deal, considering what he would’ve gotten over 7-8 year contract. If he proves he’s worth 9M plus after this current deal expires, then fine, let’s get that going. But I suspect, he’s going to be hovering around the 7/8M mark, and he won’t be worth 9M. Not because he’s not worth it, but because I don’t think he’ll be producing at a 90-100 point clip. I think Petey’s going to be good, but he’s going to be more 80’s point player, with the occasional 90 point season. Still a very good player. But he’s still a tier below the McDavids or the Austin Matthews. Demko is a very good deal. I’m glad we have him for 5 more years at 5M. The Garland and OEL deal. I’m not too happy with having OEL for another 6 years or whatever it is, because I’m not convinced that contract doesn’t age well for a player who’s already 30, and isn’t getting any younger.
  8. Well that’s what I’m saying. Like, wouldn’t it be possible to come to an agreement with Brock for more term (stability and security) but less than the 7.5M QO? I dunno, maybe 6M over 5 years would be fair for his services. Thoughts on this? There has to be a part of him as well if he wants to remain. If he just wants to get paid, then I guess he can sign the QO, and then the team will find a trade partner for his services, and he’ll get to UFA, or the team that’s traded for his rights will sign him to a long term contract. He gets a fresh start, and he gets the money. I loved the 2011 team because so many of them took a little money off of what they could’ve gotten so that the team could have room to add additional pieces for a championship run. I get the sense that the players that we have now, aren’t willing to do that. Well, how’re you going to contend with all of your core pieces making 7M+ on the roster with no depth? If you want to win, you got to make a little sacrifice so that management can bring in the right pieces to supplement the core. This is of course assuming that management is competent and knows what they’re doing (which under Benning doesn’t seem to be the case…) That’s also around the ball park for Bo as well, except with him, I’d offer 6-7 years for about 6M per. I think that’s also fair for what Bo brings to the table offensively. I would even go as high as 6.5M but nothing higher than that.
  9. Hmm. That’s true. Brock and James are supposed goal scorers are they not? But who’s the better skater? Because I find that has a lot to do with the way players are efficient on the ice. If they have a high hockey IQ, and have a great shot, but they can’t skate to get to pucks, then that part of their game is such a huge deficit that they’re not really good players. What is wrong with Brock this season? Is it mental? Is it physical? I’m willing to bet that he’s injured again. I want the young man to do well, but I don’t think he’s ever been fully healthy as a Canuck has he? The most he’s played in any given season, since being drafted by the Canucks is 69 games back in 2018/2019. That’s almost 3 years ago. Since then, he’s played 57, 56, and so far this season, 21 games. He doesn’t seem to be able to keep healthy, and at 24 years old is already injury prone. I like Boeser. I wish there was a way to keep him without having him sign 7.5M, because to me, he’s not worth 7.5M. I’m sure some stupid GM will offer him that thinking that he’ll provide more and stay healthy. If he takes 5.5-6.5M, I’d sign him to a 3-4 year deal if he agrees to that. But it looks more and more likely that the likeliest scenario for Brock is that he’ll be traded eventually. I was thinking of getting a Boeser jersey. I’m glad I held out of that. Heck, I haven’t bought any merchandise until some changes happen. Until then, Aquilini’s aren’t getting a dime from me.
  10. But I like cheesecake How did Brock get a QO of 7.5M. Was that Benning’s doing? Cause that’s just another strike on his resume of what seems to be endless amounts of mistakes, like huge errors of judgment. I know GM’s make mistakes, but Benning seems to be making much more of them that’s hindered the progress of this club. They really should be farther along in their development and they’re not. Is that the assembling of the team (wrong mix), or is that strictly on coaching?
  11. Yeah, but I’m not surprised that those guys are all long term projects. They’re all late round picks right? Silovs was 6th round; McDonough was 7th round; Plasek was also a 6th round selection. Plasek is already 21 years old, so if he’s not making much more progress in the next year or two, I don’t think he’s going to make it pro. Silovs already has two years of professional hockey under his belt (one with Manitoba and now with Abby). He’s trending hopefully in the right direction with regards to his development and progress. Working with Clark has to be golden for goaltenders whether in the AHL or NHL. Must be a privilege to be able to work with Ian. Has McDonough’s skating improved since last season? I know that’s been a knock in his game, but has he made progress in that area?
  12. if Silovs can be a backup tender with the Canucks that would be amazing. McDonough is he makes it to the NHL would be absolutely a steal. I can’t remember the last time a 7th round pick for the Canucks made it and played a vital role for the club. Only player in recent memory is Jannik Hansen who was drafted in the 9th round, when they had 9 rounds.
  13. Yeah. Out of that list though, Focht and Plasek still doesn’t strike me as players that could develop into NHL players. But what do I know.
  14. I hear what you’re saying, but there’s nothing like game time, and playing in games. I’d rather he make mistakes in games, than just keep practicing. Need both of course, but the Abbotsford team is really more for development than anything else. Learning how to be a pro, learning how to play the right way, learning how to win, and learning at looking at the finer details of the game. Those are all things that players like Woo, and Klimovich are learning to do.
  15. I think it’s best that he remains in Abby, where the Canucks as an organization can control his development. The key word there is controlling his development and play. If he’s loaned to another league and team, we have little to no control.
  16. Yeah. I think Klimovich is going to be fine. 18 years old, in a new country, playing in a professional league, and learning to live on his own while also learning a new language. He’ll be fine. If he’s still struggling at 20, then that’s a different story.
  17. Did Neal score 40 with Crosby in the line up? Cause Brock doesn’t have anyone of that calibre. I’m not saying Brock is better than Neal. But he’s had one 40 goal season, with Crosby and Malkin in the line up. And then he’s scored 31 goals in Nashville, but I’m not sure who and what calibre players he was playing with. Brock sucks this season. Goalless in 12 games so far. He’s been absolutely terrible which is why he isn’t at all deserving of the 7.5 QO. If we walk away from that, doesn’t he become a free agent? We lose him for nothing, that’s the worse outcome. If we sign him to his QO, and he produces like he’s been producing this season, which is pretty much nothing, then we get a raw deal in any trade we engage in. Only option really in my perspective, and I’m not professional GM, is either 1. To sign him to a long term deal with a lower cap and money, or 2. We find him a new home, and a trading partner. But other organizations are going to try to get him for cheap knowing his QO is 7.5M, and we’re not willing to sign that.
  18. I can see him taking maybe a 1.5-2M pay cut on a longer term deal. He then has security and he’s got money. I can’t see the organization giving him 7.5 QO for what he’s producing. If they do give him that, they also limit themselves with the possibility of trading him down the road especially if he’s struggling like this.
  19. Then he’s probably as good as traded.
  20. Pettersson for Barzal? Intriguing, but I like Petey, though Barzal has more “flash” than Petey does at least in their first few years. And Matt’s also a local kid too, isn’t he? I think Pettersson is here to stay, until his current deal runs out. If he doesn’t sign a long term contract with us then, the state of this franchise is screwed. Aquilini….I really don’t have any words for him as an owner.
  21. Wish we could have a shot at the guy. But I’m almost certain he’s going to land either in Arizona, Buffalo or Ottawa.
  22. Is Wright a scorer? More of a playmaker?
  23. Would try to negotiate a long term deal with Brock and his camp.
