You know GM Francesco is going to swing a deal. -
[Report] Jake DeBrusk requests trade

Makes you wonder why Benning lowballed Tryamkin and his camp to begin with. Like, you do that, and he’s probably a better defensive defenseman than Poolman is, but you give Poolman 2.5 for 4 years? WTF. -
Benning should put in a claim. With that being said, It’s Benning. So he’ll pass.
-
The defensive awareness of his game should grow in time, though. But being compared to Patrice Bergeron would not be a bad player to be compared to at all. It’s a double edged sword isn’t it? If we sucked next year, we’re probably losing Bo, Miller (this trade deadline in my opinion should be when he’s traded, but we all know this management and ownership group isn’t going to do that), maybe even Boeser, and might be souring Petey from signing a long term contract, since 2/3 of his current deal will be up by next year. And there’s no guarantee that if we absolutely suck next season, that we would win the Bedard sweepstakes. That’s probably going to go to a team like Arizona (&^@# you Coyotes), or Ottawa. We’re such a cursed franchise aren’t we? Owners are never patient enough for the team to be so bad that we get high draft picks (top 2-3 talent), but we’re never quite good enough either. It’s always that mediocre stage and space. I absolutely hate that. For all the narrative about the city and her fans not being “patient” enough to go through a true rebuild, I say this. We just went through a &^@#ed up, mediocre rebuild the last 8 years - or whatever &^@# Benning seems to feel the day of - retool, rebuild, win-now-mode, be competitive in two years time, who the &^@# knows - he’s such a $&!# communicator, even when we attempt to understand what he’s trying to say, nobody can decipher the &^@#ing code language he seems to speak. Going through 16 years of a rebuild? &^@# THAT. I ain’t going through that. This organization and team does not deserve my support, my time or my money if they &^@#ed up and screwed up on their first attempt of a rebuild and then ask for a second chance (that’s probably another 8-10 years, assuming they don’t &^@# up). By that time, my kids will be in their early 20’s. Like really? What kind of fan base is going to have that much patience? I really wish we had new local ownership, willing to spend, and let the hockey people run the organization. Our owners aren’t as bad as Ottawa’s, but man, if we have to compare ourselves to the Sens ownership, we’re &^@#ed.
-
I guess I meant comparable as in Wright’s “style” of game. Some people have said Stamkos as someone he’s being compared to, in terms of the style of his game.
-
Well, doesn’t matter anyways. We’re not going to win the lottery. We haven’t won the lottery under Benning’s management tenure, at all. 8 years of building, and not one of those years, not &^@#ing one, did we win the draft lottery. Like, what the &^@#.
-
It’s kind of sad isn’t it. But I engage far more on these boards than I do watching the game. I just watch certain highlights of goals now, not even the highlights of the entire game anymore. Yeah. My family and I do watch the game, like we watched the Ottawa game, and then I had other things that came up, so I wasn’t able to watch the entire game, but when I checked in on the game, I was pleasantly surprised that the team won the game 6-2.

Green isn't going to take a demotion within the organization. He'd probably rather be relieved of his duties, still get paid, and then take some time to reflect, and then look for another NHL coaching gig. Benning has been "ok" as GM, but he's made a ton of mistakes over the years as well. How is it that we're not much further along than when he first started. Your'e not okay with Green, but you're okay with the man who brought Green here? That's on Benning. He's simply not a great GM. Maybe he will be down the road (assuming he gets another kick at the can), but here in Vancouver? I think his time is over. Green too, to be fair. He could be a great coach in another market, but for now, he's dead man walking. Same with Jim. -

I agree. I think they're going to want to be cheap about the next hire. Same old $&!# with this ownership. -

I think if they go with an inexperienced GM, then a President of Hockey Ops is a must hire. If they go with an experienced GM, then I think they might not need a POHO. Hey, if Scott Mellanby is the best candidate, then sure let's go. He couldn't be as bad as Benning in his tenure. What's the worse that could happen? We'd be in the same exact place as we are today, 10 years later? -

I don't know anything about him as a AGM when he was in Montréal...why would ownership want him? -

I think you gotta go with the best candidate possible. What about that McFarlane guy in Colorado? -

What is it about Scott Mellanby that the Canucks would be interested in? No experience as a GM, and what other qualities would they be drawn to? -
500,000 raise for Bo. His career high is 61 points, and he hasn't been able to produce much more than that. is 61 points worth 7M? I think it's fair that he gets a slight raise, but another million? Probably not.
-
That's two of our top six players being traded out. Who's going to replace their production?
-
I mean, he's already making 6M in his current deal isn't he? He's not going to be signing less than what he's currently making. No way. So it's either going to be slightly above what he's making, we trade him for a good haul, or he walks straight into free agency. I can see 6.5M for 6/7 years. That's fair, no?

Yeah, there's a sense that this team could be turning the corner? Feels like it could happen. If they can get a winning streak of 5-6 games going, they could get pretty close to .500. But then, there won't be organizational change until the off-season. If they start losing on this long homestand in December, then I can see changes happening this month prior to Christmas, or after Christmas in January 2022. -

With Francesco, I can see the changes that the fans were demanding to be held off for the time. The wins against Montréal and Ottawa has bought him some time, but also Benning and Green a little bit of time. Once they get start losing again, that's when the fire around this team will begin again. I still don't trust Benning to be making trades. Seems to be a lame duck GM at this point in time. Aquilini's need to invest in their front office and management team. Get the best people to run the organization, sit back and enjoy the hockey people to do their job. Make money in your other business deals, and watch your team and organization flourish. Meddle, and you'll always have an organization that is mediocre, no top management talent will ever want to work for you, and the fans continue to lament. I love my team, but &^@#, it's hard being a Canucks fan. -
Yeah. I see Miller as the odd man out to be honest. Bo I think under new management would remain. 7M for 7 years is a good deal for me. Lock him up for the better part of his career as a Canuck. There's stability in the locker room knowing their captain will be here long term, and we can get back to winning and pursuing that elusive Cup for this franchise. Höglander will come at a decent cap hit and term I think. He's a role player, hasn't even broken 20 goals yet, so for me, there's nothing really to worry about. I'm not sure if he deserves 4M if he can't even break 20 goals, or 40 points. If he can produce 40-45 points, then 4M I think would be a good dollar signing over 3-4 years. I'd be down with that contract. That's not cheap, but it won't break the bank either. I think with Brock, that's the tough one for me. He's a top winger, but this season is just one to forget. His QO is 7.5M, like you say, so if he wants that, then no way we retain. We need to trade his rights to another team for a good return. But if he's willing to take a pay cut and if we can get some term out of him with a decent dollar, then I'm all for it.
-
He's not a McDavid or McKinnon, then what is his comparable?

LOL at the guy with the "Extend Benning" sign. Must be a guy that Francesco paid to hold that sign up. So we win two games in a row, against two of the worse teams in the league. Can't criticize a win I suppose, even if it is against a bad team (I mean, we're bad too..sooooo). Momentum is momentum, and I guess we have some at this stage coming home. Could we make it 3 in a row? Who knows. The boys must be feeling a little better about themselves, since this is the first time they've actually won two games in a row (am I right or wrong?). Still doesn't change the fact that Benning and Weisbrod both need to go. Green probably also needs to still go, but their winning streak now just delays, what I think is eventually the inevitable. Anyone actually think the Canucks can get back to .500? -

I checked the score and was pleasantly surprised that we won by four &^@#ing goals. 6-2? Wow. I guess this was the offensive outburst the team was waiting for, and we are now just 6 games below .500. Maybe this season is "salvageable", but I still think we miss the playoffs. How did Petey play? What about Brock? Did he get a point? Bo? -
[Signing] Devils re-sign Jack Hughes

what's he on pace for this season though? It's gotta be more than 11 goals. Or that contract already looks like a joke and an anchor.
