[Signing] Devils re-sign Jack Hughes
N4ZZY replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
they did have a choice. give the contract that they deserved, and not what they hope those two players will do. 64M is a lot to place on hope, instead of actual production right here right now. If Hughes doesn't live up to that contract even in 2-3 years time, that's going to be an achor that NJ has to eat. The organization is betting that Jack can put up massive numbers (at least 80 points per season) that would be worthy of an 8M per season contract, no? Either that, or they trade him to the Canucks, and NJ eats half that salary -

They’re essentially playing for Jack’s production in years 3-4 where he’ll be putting up 90 points /s -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
N4ZZY replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I find it funny that one of our “softest” players is above a point a game player in the playoffs when we were there. I get it. Petey’s struggling right now. Nothing about his game (or very little) looks good. When it rains, it pours right? I’d like to see him get back to his old self offensively and then see where things are at. Not every player should be “tough” and toughness looks different. Not every player is also physically built the same way. Petey while being “soft” and small, when he’s on his game, plays a big game. Remember those nights when he’d easily get 2-3 points a game? Sometimes even 4 point games were “norm” for the guy. I hope he gets back to that form. Peak Petey. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
N4ZZY replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Horvat is going to want a raise unless we can convince him to take less. But players only really take “less” when the organization and franchise they’re playing for is a winner. We aren’t a winner. Could Bo be asking for 8M for 5-6 years? I don’t think we could do that, and even if we could, we shouldn’t. He’s not an 8M dollar player. His ceiling is probably 70-75 point player if all goes right. He’s also 28. Jack Hughes is what? 20? Different stages of their careers. NJ is paying for what they hope they’ll get out of Jack, while the Canucks would be paying for what Bo’s been able to produce. A strong, two-way player, who is a great #2, and who can occasionally play number 1 centre if there is a need. What’s that worth? 6.5M over 6 years? -
Petey isn’t worth Petey’s contract right now. But he will be down the road. This is a rough patch (I hope, fingers crossed). He’ll be a better player for this experience.
-
Watch him score 2 goals against us tomorrow night.
-
Yeah, me too. I hope some change occurs before Christmas as well. It’s not likely that we’ll be making that much progress in the standings. But with this current ownership, who knows what we’ll get. I agree that Bo is too valuable to trade, because he’s a great #2 centre, and we need that, if one day we’re going to make a deep push in the postseason. Miller has to be traded this trade deadline because he’s not likely going to remain next year when he sees that this team might be at the same place, or just a little better than this year. AND, he’s going to cost too much for the Canucks. We don’t have cap space as it is, where are we going to get money to retain a player who’s 30 years old, and his best years might be behind him? Boeser’s a tough situation. I think he’s going to bounce back offensively, he’s just too good not to. But his QO is what scares me the most. I’m not convinced he’s going to take less than his QO, which would force us to either let him walk for free, or sign him to that QO, and be even capped out. Would he take a longer term contract (security and stability) for less money than his QO?
-
Yeah. That’s a stupid decision by Team Canada .
-
I mean, based on those stats alone, Boeser the better player. AND six years younger.

[Signing] Devils re-sign Jack Hughes
N4ZZY replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
8M for 52 career points? They must believe in him to breakout and produce offensively like crazy for them to be offering 8M over 8 years. If he doesn’t produce the way their management is expecting him to, that contract is going to look real bad. OOF. The deal that management here made with Quinn looking better every day. But hey, at the end of the day, both of the brothers are multi millionaires. They’re pretty much set for the rest of their lives, even if they suck from here on out, still getting paid. Guaranteed money isn’t it? -
[Report] Jake DeBrusk requests trade
N4ZZY replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I understand if he’s happy to be in homeland, Russia and playing in the KHL, kudos to him. But man, he’d be a pretty good man on our blue line if he were to come over, not saying that would mean a whole lot considering our blue line is a fire tire in its own right. -
Maybe those statements from around the league that he's well respected are just other colleagues being nice. Who's going to throw another coach under the bus publicly? That doesn't bode well for that organization/franchise to say such things. It's all politics and optics.
-
Yeah. I tend to agree. I think there's a reason why Gillis hasn't been back in a GM role with another franchise and it's been years. I think he would make a good POHO, and get someone like the AGM in Colorado - McFarlane in here. He's been under Sakic's tutelage. Well, McFarlane can't be as bad as Benning right. RIGHT?
-
really? it feels like hockey players are one of the nicest people in major sports. i know NBA players can be real dicks and jerks for sure.
-
Seems to be trouble everywhere he's gone lol
-
I mean if they bring a cancer like Kane into the locker room, it could collapse the entire room. Which at that point, we'd be in for a full rebuild, or should be. But we all know ownership won't allow that to happen, because that would be admission that they &^@#ed up the previous "rebuild"
-
2014. Fixed it for you.
-
I'd be concerned about the locker room. That room seems fragile right now - heck - all season.

[Report] Jake DeBrusk requests trade

I wonder if he'd sign with us...chances are probably low that he does. -
I didn't watch the game so I don't know what you're talking about. But yes. He should just fire away. Hurt the ones who are crazy enough to stand in the way of his shot, and make them think twice about trying to block it the next time. It's easier said than done, which is why I think with him it's more mental than physical. With that being said, I would not be surprised if he's injured somehow. Brock too. These guys would never disclose that they're injured. Just seems like an "excuse" not to perform, so they'll hide it from the media (also so that other players around the league doesn't take advantage of their injuries if they knew). But it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Boeser and Petey are both injured to one degree or another.

Canucks for Kids Fund Receives $50,000 Gift from Elias Pettersson
N4ZZY replied to The Arrogant Worms's topic in Canucks Talk
Was going to post the link, but glad someone else beat me to it. Shows you that Elias' heart is a good place. I hope he gets back on track. This is his team. How he goes, the team goes. If this year has shown anything, it's shown that. -
Right. But at the end of the day, we didn't win any of those games. And that's all that matters at the end of the day. Could have, should have, would have. To me, the process is important, yes, but it feels like that can be used as an excuse for poor play and poor coaching. Unfortunately, this is a results driven business. You don't perform, you're going to be replaced, player and coaching staff.
