(Speculation) Mike Babcock in town to meet with Aquilini family...
N4ZZY replied to N4ZZY's topic in Canucks Talk
yeah. but at this stage of the season, it's so depressing, any sort of "possible change" is positive news at this rate. it's pretty much par for the course isn't it? another day, another hope for a win, but we get the same thing - a loss. and the stuff that's being said in the post game show on Sportsnet 650 is just the same stuff. -

with stats like that, he's not going to get much in anything in return. Not surprised that GM's in every othe rmarket are circling this market. -

That's never going to die is it, for Petey. The comment about wanting to play on a winning team. Especially now that he hasn't contributed anything but 10 points in 22 games now.... -

that quote is going to haunt him moving forward. honestly should've just kept his mouth shut and kept working hard this off-season. -

My gut sense is that Benning’s become a lame duck GM. GM in position only, but has no authority to do anything. Worse place to be in. Shameful really. They desperately need a new GM. And they need a new coach/new voice in that locker room. If Babcock was hired by Aquilini, I would not be surprised. The owner playing GM just comes out of the shadows even more. Might as well just slap the official label on yourself, Francesco, and make yourself GM. -

Doesn’t seem like it’s worked out so far this season. -

Such as the case with rookie coaches. Rookie coaches need a start somewhere as well. Though with that being said, it might have been wiser to put Green in an assistant role behind a veteran NHL coach. That way, he would’ve put in his time as an assistant, learning from a more experienced coach, and bide his time. I think he would’ve been a far better coach going that route. But of course, like any person wants is a fast track to head coach, or head anything. Ironically enough Benning spent a considerable amount of time as AGM. But even with all that time, he still sucks at his job. It’s actually unbelievable how terrible of a GM he is. Bottom half of GM’s for sure in the league. Is he the worse? I’m not sure if he is. -
I don’t have any confidence that they’ll win tomorrow. Might play hard, but I don’t think they’ll win the game. With that being said, my prediction 4-1 Columbus.

Okay. So Shaw’s got NHL bench experience. That could help him when he’s the interim coach of the Canucks. I’m not sure how much it’ll help him. Was Shaw Benning’s hire or Travis’? -
[Hypothetical] Who should replace Travis Green?
N4ZZY replied to Ilya Mikheyev's topic in Canucks Talk
Personally, I see it this way. Julien if you want a more defensive system. Boudreau if you want a run-and-gun kind of team; more offense, not as strong defensively. Babcock if you want a hard-knocks kind of coach. He’s won a Cup, decent playoff record/winning percentage, and has won in two tough markets (well, at least regular seasons in Toronto; could never get the Leafs over the playoff hump when he was there). If you want the absolute most qualified in terms of resume, then it’s gotta be Babcock. I’m not sure if he’ll come cheap either. -

He’d have to clean up his act. If he doesn’t, and the Canucks gave him another chance, that literally would be his last kick of the can to find a coaching gig in the NHL -

I’m not sure if Shaw would be any better than Green to be fair. And Shaw’s not exactly a “veteran”of the NHL coaching ranks. Unless I’m mistaken, I don’t think he’s ever served as a full time head coach in the NHL has he? -
Easy for you to say, you’ll be traded (Miller)

Yeah, it’s different though when it’s player-coach relationship. -
If I knew that this season was going this way, I'd save that pick (Geunther). We'd miss the playoffs anyways, but we would save ourselves trading away a young prospect (Geunther). The Garland and OEL trade is basically a "win-now" mode. Garland's not young, he's 25 years old, and OEL is 30. With that being said, I truly believe that Benning and his team actually believed that this team was ready to compete and contend. Boy, were they so wrong.

You mean someone like Cody Glass? LOL. He hasn't produced and hasn't done very well, and is only a year younger than that lanky, metrosexual Swede (Petey) you're referring to. Look, I know Petey's struggling, but nobody with that amount of talent just drops off. He's struggling, but I still believe in Pettersson. He's going to be a great player in this organization, assuming the organization can get its $&!# together.

I can't see EP40 getting traded. Brock I can see getting traded eventually. I'd like to think that both these men have good character. I don't think they're playing poorly on purpose to get Green fired. I genuinely think that they're honestly struggling with the system that's in place provided by Green and his coaching staff.

It wouldn't be Boudreau then. Doesn't make sense for him to come in, only for a new GM to maybe bring his own coach. If it's interim, I bet it's Shaw. -

Näslund and the Sedins were great leaders that this organization had. -

Yeah, I mean, I'm down for a change in the coaching. Green just doesn't seem to get much from the roster right now. If Boudreau can coach a more exciting system from this roster, then I'll all for it. -

Yeah. I wouldn't mind Boudreau, but can he coach a decent defensive system? Because that's kind of what we need. A lot of our young offensive players don't seem to play very good defense. I think Boudreau can probably coach a really good offense from our current roster, and could get some very exciting games. But a great defensive system is what is going to win us when we get to the postseason. Then again, I wouldn't mind a great offensive team considering what our team's been producing recently. Just getting back to the postseason would be a miracle... -

I it's a really fine line to be able to do that. it's hard to say things publicly in front of the media, and not have things be misinterpreted. Could go all sorts of wrong.
