[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
N4ZZY replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'm with you on most of what you've said I also think Miller's time here as a Canuck is really just a stop gap. He is by far the most tradeable asset that Benning has that is 'part of our core' players moving forward. He's the oldest of the core as well. I agree that his value and worth as a player is probably at its highest this season, as he's producing, he can play center, but is more productive on the wing (even better that he can play both positions). In terms of his age, you can say the same thing with Bo as well. He's 26, and when the team is ready to compete, let's say it takes 3-5 years to get there, he will be 30/31 years old by that time. So why are we talking about not trading Bo? The team also can't be made up of so many young players, look at how that's turning out when the oldest of our core is 28 years old, the second oldest at 26 is our Cap. Our "best" player supposedly is 23. We need veteran leadership, something this team doesn't have. Like a good productive veteran, who can score and show the way of what it means to be a professional, because these guys apparently don't have it. The rumors about Miller going to the Wild for Fiala? Eh, I'm not that big on it. Fiala's going to want to be paid sooner too, what's he worth? How does this fix our problem with the cap moving forward? -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

But you can say this with a few of our players. Demko, Garland, Miller, Motte, Hughes. I mean, I'm sure they'd all be intersted in playing closer to home...but this is a business after all. -
These would be the moves I make if I were Benning. 1. Fire Green (and maybe his assistants; who would replace them?) 2. Keep the core of the following players: Bo, Pettersson, Boeser, Hughes, Podkolzin, Garland, Höglander. 3. Trade for the highest value you can get for JT Miller: RHD young dman/prospect + draft pick. 4. Swing a deal for a Right handed centreman. See if that doesn't turn things around. If they continue to sink in the standings, can't score even with a coaching change, then if I'm owner. I fire Benning and start a search for a competent, experienced GM. I also hire a President of Hockey Ops. Benning can either accept a demotion to the scouting department, or he can go find work elsewhere.
-
Yeah. Seems to me that the Rangers could be good trading partners. Miller for Schneider (RHD?) and a prospect or a draft choice would be a good haul, no? I don't know much about Schneider. Is he a good player?
-
Don't know for sure. Everything is speculation at this point.
-
Holy &^@#. I don't want to wait another 8-10 years of my life for the team to be a contender when they should be one RIGHT NOW. Wasn't the last 8 years supposed to be a &^@#ing rebuild. How did Benning &^@#ing screw that up??
-
I wonder when the announcement will be that Green has been fired. Because it feels like there might not be one coming.
-
And this is the saddest part. As a team that is supposedly on the rise, how is that we have no cap room? Is that not the responsibility of the GM to handle that? Benning has handled the cap of this team so poorly it's actually handicapped the Canucks. That's how bad of a GM he is. For the owner to not even comprehend this, is beyond me. I hope the team continues to receive bad press, maybe that'll eventually put pressure on ownership to eventually do something. Pressure from fans, from media, bad record, players being unhappy, eventually, something has to give. There's too much pressure for them to continue to ignore voices all around them calling for heads to roll.
-
and i expect them to lose their next game. confidence from the market with this team is plummeting, as it should. and the owner of the brand continues to do nothing. it's as stupid as stupid comes.
-
yeah. he's not going to make a good trade in his position. he doesn't even have job security. i hope Francesco isn't stupid enough to just allow him to do whatever he wants, cause he's not going to be making smart choices from here on out. if he makes a trade, it'll be to save his own ass, not make the team better. clock is ticking. tick tock. tick tock.
-
yeah, that's what i figured he'd do as well. If we were constructed well and are on the rise as a team, then I can definitely see him signing a new deal before his QO. but this organization is a fire tire, nobody trusts anyone to do their job well, let alone do their job period. when that happens, $&!# happens, and people, by nature we are self centered, so it's not surprising that everyone will look out for themselves before anyone else. self preservation at its finest is what we'll be seeing by everyone in the organization, if we're not already witnessing it. why francesco hasn't made a move yet is beyond me. it's beyond logic. in fact, it defies it. what could his rationale be that he's waited this long before making a move. if it were any other owner, they'd probably have made a move already. so this is becoming hysterical. and comical.

Arrogance and pride. Let those be the downfall of his beloved Canucks. When your customers aren't showing up, you better swallow your goddamn pride and change course. Or else you'll have an empty arena and apathy. Is that really what you want Francesco? Don't be stupid. -

I don't think Hughes asks out. He just signed a 6 year deal. If next season is like this, then yeah, I can see him asking out. Petey too, to be fair. Bo might already be checked out. I think a coaching change is in order. Don't mess with the core before you see what they can do under a new coach. I don't know why this is so hard for Benning and his team to understand. -
Me too. I'd deal Miller before dealing Brock.
-
Yeah. Desperate time for Benning. GM's in these kinds of positions generally don't make good moves for the future of this franchise. He's all in for this season, damn to the future of the organization. This season seems to feel like getting worse and worse.
-
question then becomes why would he sign for anything less if he knows his QO will be more than what management would hope he would sign for? Benning's and his crew is obviously going to try to sign him for less than his QO. Why would Brock do that?
-
Is there no way around his QO?
-
Not surprised at these two players being on the trade block/rumors. Miller especially. Brock, maybe a little surprised...
-
sadly, not going to happen.
-
They're probably going to undersell Brock. I don't have confidence in management doing the right thing...
-
Petey is only 3 years younger than Bo (26), a year younger than Brock (24), and a year older than Quinn (22). They're young, but they're not that young anymore. The team needs some veteran leadership that has won in the league, and won consistently. Were those the Beagles, Sutters of the world? Because if they are, we're in trouble, cause those guys aren't here anymore (Sutter almost surely is going to retire it seems).

Miller is the first guy I see asking for a move out of this tire fire. -

Man, I really hope not. So many Canuck players underwhelming and underperforming. It's hard to fathom really. Everything that could go wrong, is going wrong. -

Yes. I know the KHL LOL I think what you mean is that Podkolzin came more polished than other "rookies" He's got things to learn still in the NHL, so I wouldn't say he came here into the best league in the world ready to produce. And Green, as much as I don't care for him or like his coaching, obviously has taught and brought him along even more. Podkolzin's game is more refined today than it was on his first day with the Canucks.
