  1. Wouldn't count them out just yet. Like you say, they have 30 games to go. Stranger things have happened. They could very well sneak into the postseason.
  2. Tryamkin? Oh gosh. It's been such a long time. That ship has sailed a long time ago. Time to move on. He's big, and if he were any good, he would have had a ton of interest from other teams. The reality and truth is that there are far better defensemen in the NHL that are far smaller in stature than Tryamkin. Just because you're big, doesn't mean you're automatically good. Gotta have talent to go with all that physical size, if not, then it's a case of a player that's big for nothing. Tryamkin's skill is a dime a dozen. We can find better defensemen elsewhere.
  3. I mean, this could very well be realistic if the team loses too much ground to make up for the postseason. Bo will help them, but I'm not sure how much he will help. Also, if Lou gets the sense that Bo and his camp won't sign long term with the Islanders, then I think he does get traded again.
  4. so they'll probably stand pat this year then. if they make it, they go all in with their current roster. if not, not the end of the world.
  5. if it's the early season Miller, then our odds of getting Bedard rises significantly. Prepare to lose a lot more.
  6. That's true. When I look back, I wish Virtanen spent more time in the AHL. He definitely was one of those players that could have overcooked on the farm team. Whether he would make it to the NHL and be productive even after 'overcooking' in the A - we'll never know. He's a journeyman player though (out of the league).
  7. It's a gamble that management has decided to take. They weren't winning all these years with Bo, so how much worse could it get with JT? If they don't win, they'll risk losing Petey to UFA, and inevitably Hughes as well, as I'm not sure if he wants to be spending the next 5-6 years losing constantly. That's gotta wear thin on any player over time.
  8. I think Islanders will choose to defer to unprotected pick in 2024. 2023 draft is apparently very deep, so the Isles can get a pretty good player with their pick, especially if it's top 10.
  9. I'm a wait and see with Beau. He's 25, and he hadn't produced offensively in New York this season, and was already declining last season. I think it depends on who he's playing with, and whether he's given the offensive green light to produce. And whether he can produce is another question. If he's on the decline, then thank God that we only have him for one more season and he's off the books.
  10. Yes. That is certainly true and is unknown at this point. That's a wait and see with JT and how he responds to Tocchet (or doesn't). You and I disagree with the captaincy going to Miller. I say no to that, only because JT is so volatile emotionally. That can wear pretty thin in a room pretty fast. You can lose the locker room quickly, what then? I don't think the room right now has enough leadership to run its own. The 2011 team with the Sedins, and so many other leaders on that team essentially ran themselves. But not this group. I'm not as certain as you that Miller will bring better assets than Bo did. It really depends on Miller's production in 3-4 years right? You're assuming that he's still producing at a high level, but he's going to be 33-34 years old in 3-4 years. Where will his offensive game be? What about his defensive game - will that even improve, or will it further decline? It's very likely that we could have another OEL like contract on our hands. I can't say for sure, but I'm not as optimistic as you are with a "better" deal coming our way. If he's so highly sought after and regarded, why was there a reported surprise with the Canucks signing JT to the contract that he was signed for? And why aren't more teams reportedly interested in JT?
  11. I dunno. Minty would be getting a sure thing with Demko. Wallestedt is still not a sure fire NHL player. There’s a lot to the journey and development that could happen with him. He could continue to project as an NHLer or he could go wayward. Like so many have said that goalies are a different animal as a player but also in their development. Is Minnesota in win now mode?
  12. If Wallestedt is coming to Vancouver. Canucks would definitely have to add, no?
  13. What about that Silovs kid down in Abby? He's been playing well last I heard, for a goalie that's only 21?
  14. Not saying other players aren't playing well defensively. but those other players also don't have emotional outbursts....errr, i mean "passion". Am I getting it right?
  15. might be best to send him down to Abby and let him develop there. It's sink or swim at the NHL level. he's relatively young too at 22 years old. Can't believe Minny just let him go? What was the story behind Johansson and the Wild?
  16. Even if he is rumoured to want out, he's still under contract. Allvin and co shouldn't move him simply because he's rumored to want out. Wait until next season, and if he performs better, than our return could be better. It's a gamble because what if he doesn't perform to bubble Demko ever again? Then his value is on the decline. At that point, you get what you can for the guy.
  17. we win either way. If we don't get their first in 2023, we get an unprotected first in 2024. I checked the Islander's roster, and they have a core that's aging, and they're not getting younger next season. There's a good chance that they could miss out the playoffs by quite a bit next season. And if not, and they have a really good year, then we have another pick from another organization, and the more picks we have, the better our odds of finding a gem and a player that can contribute to the Canucks.
  18. Well, I'm at a wait and see stance with Tocchet and whether he has the ability to rein in Miller or not.
